- Inspired in part by Ty Herndon's emotional interview with Entertainment Tonight, country singer Billy Gilman decided to also come out as gay in video posted to UA-cam on Thursday.

Just a quick word of support from my wife and I. We had always enjoyed your music as you were growing up and had on occasion wondered where you had disappeared to sooo quickly. Once we heard your audition on the voice it brought back some great memories and decided to dig deeper why it was that such a voice had to take the road you chose to continue your career. Such a shame that an industry took sides instead of allowing listeners and fans to determine the fate of an artist. BIG MISTAKE INDUSTRY! Wishing you and your partner all the success and happiness in what ever you choose to pursue in life in a world that now owes you and many of your fans more than it took.

Billy, you just made a new fan. I don't listen to a lot of country music but after hearing how you came out it inspired me to search for your music to see what it sounds like. I listened to your song "One Voice" and surprisingly I loved your voice and the song. So don't worry about losing fans because you'll gain new ones who are much more loyal to you and your music. I'm living proof of that.
Billy, It is YOUR Voice that I Love, that I crave each day. You are one of the best country artists and I wish u the best. Glad you had the guts to come OUT! That takes a special person to come out to the world like that. I wonder how many other famous country male artist are gay yet still keep it to themselves. To each there own. Took me a long time to come out, but it was like a rock off my chest. Now you can be yourself. I first heard your christmas album in 2000. As a gay man myself I applaud you for your strength of character, and thank you for sharing your sweet, beautiful , sensitive voice with us.
Billy you are such an inspiration. I don't care if your gay stright etc.. It's what is on the inside of a person not what they are label as. That's what is wrong with the world today, to many people judging others by how they look how they talk or act. They judge if you have a learning disability or disabled. Instead they should look on the inside of someone and I think this world would be a better place. I have a learning disability I used to be ashamed of it, people would call be dumb stupid etc.. I would ask to be friends with my classmates and they would always tell me that they would be friends with me but they didn't want to me seen with me because of my disability? Some of my own family didn't want me because I had a disability. But as I get older I have came to realize there will always be those people that will always hate on you about something there's nothing you can do to change that. But you can control how it effects you. I'm no longer a shame of my disability because we all have some kind a disability, and God made me the way I am for a reason.I am who I am either people adepts me for who I am or I don't let them in my life I keep all the negative people away from me because I have way more positive people that I know who will always be there for me and I don't need to waste my time one people that won't accept me for me. Thank you Billy for what you do. You inspire me to be better to know that not matter what you want to do in life with your dreams it's not impossible and that if you work hard enough it will work out in the end. Ps. Your killing it on the voice.

I think things have improved since Adam Lambert came in second to a guy with a much weaker voice. But look how well his career has gone. I think your plan to switch to pop music makes sense & Miley can share with you about that. You have real depth in your voice. Your audition was beautiful. I encourage you to choose songs that move you & that you can move others. Brian Justin Crum came in 5th place on AGT, not just because he has a beautiful voice, but he was being authentic & helping others deal with the same feelings he had been dealing with. Check out his video of "Skyscrapers", an anti-bullying song. I also enjoy Steve Grand, Eli Lieb & Joe McElderry.

Billy, I don't care if you are gay or straight. I'm old enough to be your mom, and I am so filled with love when I see your parents cheering you on while you're on The Voice. You were courageous to come out when you did, but I feel bad for the ignorant people who felt that your sexual identity defined who you are. Especially when you out sing every single contestant week after week on The Voice. That last note on "Anyway" was nearly 20 seconds long and your pitch never wavered. My sons are the same age range as you and I would be just as proud of either of them if they said to me they were gay. I know it's a hard thing to tell people because you don't know what they are going to say or how they will act afterwards. Stay true to yourself young man, your future looks very bright. I've listened to all of your songs from the show over and over so many times and voted my ass off for you. My husband is voting for you also!!!

Ever since the first time I watched him in an interview, I thought he was a little feminine or even, gay, for that matter. Now, does that takes away his talent? DEFINITELY not! Do I like him more, or less now? I actually like him more, because he seems like a really down to earth cool guy that just wants to make music and enjoy life! Yes, I do have my personal views on the subject but it doesn't matter because at the end of the day, I'm not GOD to judge him and won't. This had to be one of the most wrenching, difficult experiences in anyone's life, to be so thoroughly stigmatized by record executives and music industry leaders for his sexual orientation. As a straight man enthralled by the wondrous beauty and rapturous allure of the female body, I find gay orientation simply puzzling. But I'm not going to hate and stigmatize someone for having feelings the direct opposite of mine. Billy Gilman is what he is; his sexual predilections, a matter for his own private life, and I wish him the same happiness, love, fulfillment, joy, and friendly companionship I would wish for any fellow human being given his or her limited mortal lifetime on this planet with its trials and tribulations. I am just privileged to be able to hear the musical gift this exceptional artist seeks to share with the world, and delighted that he is finding success in doing so. Let us cheer him onward.

It's not shocking that he's gay actually. I could tell that when he came out with "One Voice" back when he was a pre-teen. Ty Herndon however, that I didn't see coming. Still, nice to see more gay country musicians being honest about who they really are!

Billy is from Rhode Island so def does not have a southern accent. Billy can sing anything. I know this is an old post. Hope you have heard him sing his pop songs and ballads, especially those from the TV show on NBC called The Voice.
