This game is so confusing 😭, I saw Joel from vine sauce play it and decided to jump down the rabbit hole. The whole b3313 labrynth is so jarring but then I see experienced players of the rom navigate the castle like it’s nothing.
Honestly a lot of castle navigation (unless you can somehow read that fucking map, i sure as hell can't) is just remembering which doors to take in order to get to the location you wanna go to. Although, that would be assuming you CAN remember which doors to take lol

I wish I could help but I've never been a part of the whole beta community thing. Chris is a huge Greenio fan and has mentioned the 'Classified' series as a huge inspiration, and I know Internal Plexus is another source. The MIPS Hole Wiki might help point you in the right direction for other things. A lot of content is wholly original and designed to fit with the general vibe rather than a specific reference. There are things like models and code that were donated to Chris which were starting points for some of those, and some come from unique behaviour you can set in SM64 ROM Manager. There's also at least one simpleflips reference.
I believe there are actually additional stars you could collect through various exploits in older versions, meaning that someone's managed to get a save file with either 150 or 151 stars through save file and version shenanigans
it's currently at 152, i'm planning to make a video on all the "old" stars but it would mostly be for show since you can't play those versions anymore anyway (chris likes to keep them off of the internet because he dislikes how they play and look)

I went into the server noting I'd gotten the star behind the waterfall, which was thought to be impossible by even the creator. But we figured out why after some trial and error lol.
Hey, would you happen to know why the game freezes when I try to enter certain areas (such as the pipe in Piranha Plant Battlefield and the pyramid in beta SSL)? Is it not fully compatible with Project64 1.6?
I love 0.7, but the mips stars are such a turn off for me, I have had 2 100% runs where I've been locked out of 144 stars due to getting them in the wrong order
It's a binary hack, almost all the strange interractions are actually a facet of the original game, and that resulted in some unintended or not totally understood effects. Almost everything bizarre a player experiences was intended by the creator, bugs and all, but these stars are unique cases. To paraphrase Shigeru Miyamoto talking about the minus worlds in SMB1 "when you think about it, the bugs are sort of a feature too" I know Chris (the creator) is a fan of this video, but he enjoys the mystique B3313 has so I wouldn't expect him to explain much on his channel.
I would love if in future versions of the game, your save file has a seed upon creation that decides whether certain stars are possible to get or not

I have heard of players using LINK's glideN graphics plugins with pj64 1.6 with no issues.

Its not impossible. 140 stars is 100% according to the dev. Which means the other 5 probably aren't supposed to be collected
