My Kurt playlist • Kurt Cobain, Nirvana, ...
Kurt Donald Cobain (February 20, 1967 - c. April 5, 1994) was an American singer, songwriter and artist. He was the guitarist, lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the rock band Nirvana. Through his angst-fueled songwriting and anti-establishment persona, Cobain's compositions widened the thematic conventions of mainstream rock. He was heralded as a spokesman of Generation X and is considered one of the most influential musicians in the history of alternative rock.
Cobain formed Nirvana with Krist Novoselic and Aaron Burckhard in 1987 and established it as part of the Seattle music scene that later became known as grunge. After signing with major label DGC Records, Nirvana found global success with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from their critically acclaimed second album Nevermind (1991). Although Cobain was hailed as the voice of his generation following Nirvana's sudden success, he resented this, believing his message and artistic vision had been misinterpreted by the public. In addition to "Smells Like Teen Spirit", Cobain wrote many other notable songs for Nirvana, including "Come as You Are", "Lithium", "In Bloom", "Something in the Way", "Heart-Shaped Box", "All Apologies", "About a Girl", "Aneurysm", and "You Know You're Right".
During the last years of his life, Cobain struggled with heroin addiction and chronic health problems such as depression. He also struggled with the personal and professional pressures of fame, and he had a tumultuous relationship with his wife, fellow musician Courtney Love. In March 1994, Cobain overdosed on a combination of Champagne and Rohypnol, and he subsequently entered an intervention and underwent a detox program. On April 8, 1994, Cobain was found dead at his home in Seattle at the age of 27; police concluded he had died on April 5 from a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.
His home was built in 1902 and is located one block up from Lake Washington in Seattle's Leschi neighborhood. Although the home is worth several million dollars, it doesn't reflect the glamorous lifestyle one would associate with a rock star of Kurt's stature. Instead, it reflects the more modest lifestyle that Cobain lived.
Kurt's home is where he spent the last minutes of his life. In late March of 1994 he fled from a Los Angeles rehab center and flew home. He hung out around Seattle for a few days and was last seen on April 3rd. On April 8th an electrician was sent out to install security lighting. When he looked into a window of the greenhouse, a room above the garage, he discovered Kurt's lifeless body. It was speculated that Cobain died on April 5th from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was only 27 years old. Although the garage still stands the greenhouse was torn down shortly after his death.
In 1997 Courtney purchased the house for Cobain's family. In December of 2003 Courtney stopped making the payments and the house was auctioned off.The property is now surrounded by a fence and security cameras have been installed. The new owners are unknown to the public but don't seem to mind people stopping by as there have not been any known complaints. Next to the house, in Viretta Park, fans have turned two benches into a message board of writing expressing their love for Cobain. There is also a fence bordering the property that fans like to write on too.
I loved your comment on not knowing what people go through. That’s why I relate to Kurt in so many ways
I’m not a conspiracy guy but his death is fishy as f. Wouldn’t say for sure he killed himself. Especially when el douche was dead a week after saying he was murdered
Ditto !
I always try and remind people to be kind to others, coz you never know what someone is going through.
@@flyersluver4eva I don't think Kurt killed himself either. American Spy Fox (here on UA-cam often just shortened to ASF) has done a pretty thorough series in depth covering all the facts and such around Kurt's final days, and dude, I remember at the time when he passed feeling it was super sus, and there are just way way way too many things that don't add up. Seattle PD really effed up the so called investigation too...there's a petition going around to get the coroner to change his death from suicide to undetermined. It's babysteps towards re-opening investigation, which a lot of us do want. AsF on his channel also interviews one of the world's leading Doctors on autopsy investigation who also has ties to independent investigations done and this man has done more autopsies than probably anyone else alive and his opinions about Kurt's case and the facts and questions he answered for ASF, very revelant. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Exactly Crystal ❤️
I’m an addict in recovery, and have almost 8 1/2 years clean and sober. Music and faith got me thru the hardest times of my life in recovery, including being homeless literally living in the bushes, finding housing, and reuniting with my babies. Walking around the streets recycling music was always pumping thru my headphones. It brought me peace. It’s hard when someone OD’s, however I get it. One aspect I’ve learned is empathy. Thank u for this, Scott. Everyone has a story to tell and sometimes all we want is someone to listen. Blessings from AV in SoCal.
Bless Your heart!,💕🙏🎼🎶
@@TOMBSTONEWHISPERZ thank u! Very grateful for my life today.
Congratulations! 8 1/2 years how wonderful is that - may God continue to bless you keep up the good work 🙏💕🥀🕊️
@@noelleleto4700 thank u! Deeply appreciate that!❤️
Well done on ur recovery. Stay strong
Gone too soon. I personally don't believe he killed himself. RIP Kurt, your music will live on. ❤️
The documentary about Courtney was pretty compelling and so was the evidence that was presented
Same
I completely agree💯
Agreed
I agree with your personal thoughts .especially when some ppl came forward about it and ended up dead to !
How sad is it that someone's soul has never been touched by a piece of music. It's the soundtrack to our lives.
I applaud you on keeping your cool with the very rude comment shouted at you at the gate if Kurts old house. Your self control amazes me! Thank you so much for your awesome Vlogs. Out of work at the moment and it helps keep my mind going and certantly pulls me through the bad times! Love you Scott! You are a beautiful soul inside and out! Dont ever change! 😍😁🎥
Thank you for taking us there and showing respect. Walk a mile in someone's shoes before judging. So many people lack empathy. But Kurt did not kill himself
I disagree with the last part but you’re welcome and thank you so much for watching
Google says otherwise
We went there a few years ago on our second trip to the Seattle area, it was so peaceful. Nirvana was always one of my most favorite bands growing up. So much talent was lost that day. I’ll always remember the day he died, my friends and I were devastated! Hopefully he found peace on the other side..RIP KURT
Even people that weren't actually into Nirvana were devastated when Kurt died. It was so poignant, being that Kurt was such a voice for our youth culture at the time.
I find it difficult to explain to those who don't remember it because they were too young, or that weren't alive yet. It really was tragic for our entire generation, I think everyone was affected by it on some level.
How's my timing?? When Kurt passed i was finishing 8th grade in Santa Clara California and getting my belongings packed for when my mom was driving from Washington state to pick me up to permanently move with her to the Seattle area. I've been here since.
Scott you are so knowledgeable with all the people you talk about. Kurt was a brilliant singer, songwriter. So sad he left us so soon. I loved Nirvana
It was heartbreaking when he died in 1994.
@@hectorlopez1069 I agree.
Hater’s are shallow and insecure. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Although Kurt’s demons were to great for him to compartmentalize. His inspiring impact will live on. ✌️
The man was a musical genius!
His legacy will live on forever.
RIP Kurt❤️
Thanks Scott.
Cool video👍
A genius. I still watch his videos on UA-cam.
You brighten up my day! You’re such a genuine kind person. I love you and your awesome channel❤️ much love and respect to you sir.
Scott is awesome
I wish I was like you !! Awesome video thanks mate hello from England 🏴
I love nirvana, Kurt’s story is so intriguing.
I had a major surgery and love catching up on your videos. I love how you are so respectful.
Get well soon Jaclyn!
I am a scotsman from aberdeen scotland . I love your vids. Take care love from riky and my daughter summer.xx
Can't wait to watch!! Huge Fan of Kurt Cobain🖤🖤
Well said. A beautiful serene place. This definitely feels like a labor of love on your part. Good job Scotty.
Cool you made it back to Seattle, I'm about 30 mins from there, loved Nirvana and was at the Seattle center gathering after his passing.
Wow that’s awesome / sad that you got to be there !
@@SCOTTONTAPE It was such a strange day there, weird energy, really never felt anything like it.
Great video Scott. I agree 100% you right about never knowing what another person is or has been going through. I hope Kurt is resting in piece 🙏 Scott you are such a sweet and respectful person. Your doing exactly what you were always meant to do. Going out filming all these locations. You do it with such style. What a beautiful place. I love quiet and peaceful places. Take care Scott 🙂
As a lifelong Seattle resident, I would like to apologize for the current state of our city. It breaks my heart seeing the huge piles of trash in our parks.
People need to clean up after themselves for sure.❤
Just got back from Seattle and thought it was amazing so don't feel too bad
Litter bugs stink. !!! People are trashy even in the country where I live. 20 miles down a dirt road and you see McDonalds throwed everywhere
Layne definitely deserves some kind of memorial for his fans to visit. Kurt and Layne will be forever loved!!
I wrote/signed the back of that bench when I was there last August. Such a beautiful vibe there.
Such an awesome musician, such a tragic life.🥺
A musician who was on top of the music world in the 90s
I love Seattle! I've been to Kurt's home and signed my name on that bench.
The park & water across the street is so beautiful. I also went to his childhood hoom in Aberdeen and to the memorial park at a dead end street in Aberdeen. I love Nirvana ❤️. Thanks Scott for bringing back some of the best memories!
I am glad that his music still reaches younger generations, and thank you for sharing your message about acceptance of others and reaching out to those who are struggling emotionally
I was a lonely, sensitive Pisces child during the Nirvana days and Kurt was someone I could look up to and feel a connection with… plus the music was freaking awesome!!!!! When he died I felt the same sadness one would for a family member
RIP to a fellow Pisces. I felt close to him in many ways and still do. My birthday is 4 days after him.
Dude this is one of my favorite videos of yours from the past! Glad to see you’re back there! Wife and I are heading over that way next spring and I can’t wait to see this in person 😎👏
As a Seattle local this is awesome to see I've never actually been there myself. Great video 👍
You have to go. It is a small little place to visit.
Thank you Scott❤ you got be one the coolest people I will remember in my life. One day we be gone, but your videos an my comment well be here forever after we are gone. Much love my friend
Geez time goes by so fast, Kurt was the same age as i am and i remember him dying a month before i got married, so sad and we still miss ya bud. Rest Well.
I love that you said "you don't know what somebody's going through". Thanks for that. Music helped me through a lot of dark times.
You’re so welcome Deb
Beautiful commentary Scott- truly never know what someone is going through and why they resonate with a certain type of music- you're a great person awesome video glad you got to go there and bring us with you thank you for this!
Awesome Scott! This is obviously what you were telling me via Facebook. Great stuff!

EXCITED for the future Cobain material, thanks for taking us to Kurt’s beautiful home, Scott! I wish he could have enjoyed it into old age. He was a beautiful soul who never had life easy, I think he did the best he could with what he was dealt in life.
Scott I have been following you for some time now and I would like to take this opportunity and THANK YOU for all these videos you are sharing with us but specially the nirvana/Kurt videos as I’m a huge fan. I live in England and I’m hoping one day to go and visit these places! Please keep up the good work 💕love, Eva
RIP Kurt, gone but definitely not forgotten. 🙏🙏
He had very youth life he changed his life and touched many livies...🤟💞thank you scott🌹
Great Words Scott! 🙏🏻❤️ I’m looking forward to the new Kurt/Nirvana videos. Nice work - Rob 🇬🇧🤝🇨🇦
Thank u so much for this beautiful video Scott. I was 16 when Kurt passed away and I still miss him dearly to this day. RIP Kurt 😢
I loved kurt and still do .thankyou scott for taking me there 🇮🇪🎸🎶
Hi Scott first time messaging you're right I'm only 32 now about 20 years ago I first discovered Nirvana and the songs helped me through my depression in my teens, it's great to see your videos about kurt as I'll probably never get to see these important places. Thanks and keep up the great work
Excellent video. I can tell how much Nirvana meant to you. I feel the same way. Thank you
I came across your channel the other day and absolutely love it! I am a huge nirvana fan and it's awesome how you help their fans connect to them thru your adventures!
Thank you Jennifer! More coming !
This made me almost well up with tears. Just beautiful. If I were rich I’d buy his house and I would allow public to go inside and be free to write on the fence. I was thinking about it and obviously there would be certain rules to preserve it so no one’s takes things but I wouldn’t shut it off as private property. Personally I think places like this need to be kept to be seen by the public. Kurt is laying privately now and this is a piece of history. Also death is so hidden in this day In age people need closure and to become more educated and accepting of their mortality. I think carefully curated these places should be available for viewing. Also there is so much essence in places like this bench. People from all over the world coming in the name of music. It’s really vital for the planet to have this sort of thing.
Wonderfully said thank you Victoria
Hey Scott. Thanks for all you do. Ill catch you on live stream. Thanks for taking us along on your journeys.
Great one Scott 👍 Kurt was sooo ahead of his time just like The Beatles and Elvis, hell he was The Beatles and Elvis of our era!!! Just tragic to lose him so early 😔 thanks a ton for doing this one Scott we love ya brother 👍 and keep em coming!!! Ur awesome
He was 27 years old. Shame he died too young.
Hector I know my friend and it’s still not real I hear Nirvana at least twice daily on the radio, my friend u have a blessed weekend and rock on 🤘and enjoy family it’s nice meeting u my friend 😀
Hi Scott! Thanks for doing this and showing Kurt's memorial, I hope to get there one day but if I can't it's great to see people like you paying respects! When you said you never know what someone is going through, I started to cry because I was going through a very difficult relationship at the time I was really into Nirvana and Kurt and they got me through some very tough times that I don't know I would've made it through without them, it was right after he passed. The strange coincidence was the guy I was seeing looked exactly like Kurt, weird I know but anyway I'm in a much better place now with a wonderful husband. My name is just a tribute to an amazing musician who we all miss tremendously! Love your videos especially about Kurt and you can tell your a true fan who's sincere about your feelings for him. Enjoy yourself in Seattle! Looking forward to seeing you again real soon! 😊❤️🤗
Im also from the GTA/Toronto area. I discovered your channel and subscribed not to long ago. Im a big fan of your videos. Thank you so very much for all the great content.. Cheers
Thank you Anthony! Every time I’m away, I miss the hell out of Toronto
@@SCOTTONTAPE its def a great city! Thnx again for all the great content. All the best, have a wonderful week. 🤙
The house where he used to live when he was alive. He was phenomenal and special to rock music in the early 90s.
RIP Kurt💔
Darn it, I'm not sure why my allergies always act up while watching your Kurt/Nirvana videos. 😥💔💟 What a peaceful place. I loved that you shared Brian's written words as well as your own at the bench. Well said by both of you. Can't wait to see what other Nirvana/Kurt videos you have coming up.
My dear Verna ! Where have you been?? How are you? Please message me
Hi Verna! Allergies are a pain in the A! Otherwise hope you are well!
Nice to have you back in my home state, Scott. 😀
Thanks Hank! Are you in Aberdeen?
@@SCOTTONTAPE Yes, sir! I sure am. I was born in Missoula, Montana, but moved here with my family at the age of eight and have lived here in Aberdeen ever since. 😀Thank you for your awesome channel! 🙂
@@aberdeenhank4038 that’s awesome. Maybe you can help me. I’ve been trying to get in touch with Lee Bacon, the man who owns Kurt’s childhood home. Do you know him or how to reach him?
@@SCOTTONTAPE I really wish I could help you, Scott, but unfortunately I don't know him in person. I know of him, but have never met the man. I know that he was turning the house into a museum with the help of Kurt's sister Kim and that he was almost finished last summer.🤔
@@aberdeenhank4038 well I’ll keep trying my man thank you so much! He’s a hard dude to reach
Your older Nirvana videos are what brought me to your channel in the first place. :)
Thank you Blake! Buckle up, some great Kurt stuff coming
@@SCOTTONTAPE I knooow I can't wait!!!!!
Hi Scott awesome video I absolutely loved nirvana I just listen to one of their songs today and it still breaks my heart when I think about kurt Cobain he was absolutely awesome and he is truly missed RIP kurt Cobain.
Dude, i love your channel. I love the person you are. You seem to be a genuine dude. So thanks for your content.
Thank you so much
Music speaks to the soul.
Thanks for showing me this spot. I doubt I'll ever get there myself, so appreciate it. I'm of the opinion that anyone who produces any form of art puts a small piece of their soul into it, so we get a glimpse of who they are. That's what makes us relate. I'll never be ashamed of admiting I miss someone I didn't really know, and only knew through their art. Such a shame for the people who don't get it though! Much love from a friend of Unusual Things in the UK! 💕
Good Evening Scott 🙋🏽. I remember when you were there because I was there with you on video 📸👍🏽. Enjoy the rest of your night.
Well said Scott , Nirvana got me through some hard times as a kid , Thankyou for taking us along , I'm from the UK so I probably never get to go , my daughter now loves Nirvana..Kurt was a legend 🖤🤘xx
Welcome back to Seattle ❣️ My home town.
Great work. Keep it up. Your voice is soothing and so easy to listen to. Keep doing the Kurt videos it’s everything the young people are missing today.
What a beautiful place! I’m glad you got to visit there again and take us along with you. I’m not a huge Nirvana fan but now I can see why so many people relate to Kurt. You’re so right.. we don’t have a clue what others are going through. I think I’ve said it before but I really love how you appreciate music. Music touches our lives in so many ways. I know it’s helped me through many hard times in my life. Thanks for such a beautiful video Scott. May Kurt Rest In Peace.
Being a Pisces like Kurt , having a troubled childhood like Kurt and many other thing makes it so easy to relate to him , besides the music and same tastes in bands and art etc ❤️🐢🌺

I liked Nirvana in the 90's and I still do. I liked Kurt to and no one should judge him. They do know what he was going through in life or at the time of his passing.

Hi Scott! Welcome back to Seattle!
Hi Isaac!
I was there in 2015 there is a deep feeling there....amazing place
Kurt Cobain spirit is always there.
A lots of repect for you to put the sticker. But you touch me with what you said, because it's true. You said it very beautiful. Thank you so much Scott 💞
I remember the first time I heard of Nirvana was from my brother, who followed the underground punk music and a lot were on subpop... and 120 minutes show, that my brother would record on the VCR because it was on at 1am I believe. I was watching them on the show and listening to their music a few years before, smells like teen spirit, came out. It sounds cliche...but that is my favorite song by them, because of the memories of that time with my brother (when he waited in line to be in the video and didn't get picked...I said because it was full already...but he said it was because he was wearing a Mudhoney shirt...we'll never know). After seeing that video you did of where they filmed the music video, I wish I had gone with him.
Another great video. Love your words. I can tell your heart is in it, knowing how much you love Kurt.
Love you well said words. Thank you
Thank you for what you do and everything you have done and your contribution to UA-cam and documentation.
