You missed the easiest identifying feature on fakes. Bigger pickup rings. They are bigger on the sides like import guitars. And I’ve got two Les Pauls, and neither of them have a bone nut. 🤘🏻
A bunch of us just enjoy buying and upgrading. The truss rod is something the Chinese aren’t prepared to do. What I had heard was that someone at the top decided a two way truss rod was better than the 10/32 acorn type. They don’t understand that Americans would prefer the acorn. It is not illegal , and when I was 15 and starting out, I would have loved it. That said, I know what I’m buying, and I hate to see people ripped off.
when buying new from one of the main suppliers such as Guitar Centre in the US or Andertons in the UK should you be equally cautious ? Should you insist on the original factory authentification paperwork for the specific guitar ?
Do these things apply to a LP Studio? Got an early 96' ebony and gold hardware LP Studio that I bought second hand a while ago and I'm not an expert on these guitars
Nice video and very informative. The one thing that raised an eyebrow for me was when he says it will cost $1,500 to upgrade your Chibson -- Seriously? where are you buying your parts from, Gibson? $$$ 😂
Thank you for your comment. I think what the guys are talking about would be the cost of all the parts and the cost of a new top to put the controls in the right place , the cost of Installing the binding correctly all the neck/ frets and replacing the trust rod to the correct Gibson trust rod.
Do not put a soldering iron on you gibson’s nut:) These are not always bone they can also be nylon especially on newer guitars. Look at the spec sheet of this example www.gibson.com/Guitar/CUSQKW566/60th-Anniversary-1960-Les-Paul-Standard/V1-Deep-Cherry-Sunburst
@08:00 you said $1,500 in upgraded parts? My friend bought a Chibson Les Paul Custom and after upgrading with quality parts like Gibson, Guitar Fetish, Graph Tech Tusq, Grover, Stew Mac, Schaller, AllParts, Musician's Gear, and a pro fret-level & set-up, his total cost was $650...and that includes the initial price of the guitar. Is it the same as a genuine Gibson Les Paul Custom? Of course not, but it's a pretty good replica for a fraction of the price.
And it’s people like your friend, who have helped to destroy American industry, by knowingly buying counterfeit American products, stolen intellectual property. How many American jobs have been lost to these Chinese counterfeit imports? Think about for a while!
So funny, 3 out of 5 thought the fake was real!! Gibson, get your act together, take a fake for $300 bucks with new parts any day over any Epi!! Gibson = Fail!! No one at a gig is going to ask if if that’s a fake or not, almost the crowd whole has no idea what guitar you’re playing!!

@@guitarwishes784 lol for someone with a YT channel you really need to learn to handle trolling a little better. Im sorry my comment upset you this much.... truely... You made me feel like I am a bad person and have definitely learned my lesson and will never utter a negative comment on the internet again. Edit: I feel like I might need too add that this is sarcasm btw... I don't want to give you the false impression that having a meltdown like this is good for you or for ur future as a UA-camr.
You forgot to mention. That 1 of the tale signs is that if Les Paul is real Gibson it'll be scratched to shit. And the fake one will still look good..

No fret nibs on a Studeo , Junior, Special or Tribute well you get the idea. They are real Gibson, oh and the BFG, one of my favorites.

No fret nibs bro.
By the way they are stripped down great playing lp’s with 490 and 498T pickups. Those things rock.

@@guitarwishes784 Great point! I've been working on my own stuff for so long, the cost of paying someone's labor didn't even enter my mind.
