1. AC/DC - Thunderstruck The second half of the 1980s was not very successful for the band, and, reaching the 1990s, with the oversaturation of the hard rock scene, there were speculations that AC/DC would fall into obscurity. The Aussie band however made a glorious return with The Razor's Edge (1990), which features their most famous song to date, "Thunderstruck". 1993's Big Gun from Last Action Hero solidified their stay into the mainstream, and 2010's Iron Man 2 would allow them to make another awesome comeback. 2. Gwen Stefani - Sweet Escape Gone were the days of No Doubt, but this song transformed the blonde bombshell from an alternative band's vocal into a household name with a very successful solo career. 3. Daft Punk - the Tron: Legacy soundtrack Daft Punk are icons of the European EDM scene, with their song "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" being a mainstream icon. Kanye resurrected the song in 2007, but their real comeback came in 2010, when they made the soundtrack for Tron: Legacy, which is a greatly underrated masterpiece, but showed their greatness. The release of "Random Access Memories" in 2013 made them get to the top of the charts, especially with Pharrell Williams and "Get Lucky". They were on top and remained there until their split in 2021.
Honestly, I never cared for Santana’s music. But I won’t deny they did a masterful job of reimagining themselves for a fresh generation while not alienating their existing fanbase.

Santana wasn't one song - it was A LOT of the SONGS on the Supernatural ALBUM, which had several big hits on it. "Maria Maria" was a #1 like Smooth, while IMO the best song on the album, "Put Your Lights On", *only* reached #18, and a couple others were Top 100.
I had that album on perpetual repeat, and it's one of the few CDs I never got rid of - even though I don't have anything to play them on any more! And one of the first I bougt digitally. Amazing music, every single song.
@@leapintothewild I don't go QUITE that far with Supernatural, but it's one of the members of my fairly small CD collection (to which I DO still listen to sometimes).
OK, I'll go there. Donny Osmond "Solder of Love". When it was released, DJ's were instructed not to reveal the artist. After a few days of play and word of mouth, they started plugging Donny's name.
As much as I love Mariah Carey being on this list, the m I still glaring omission from this list has to be "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" by Meatloaf. Meatloaf was already considered a long time has-been when he released that single, which revived his career.
Yep - Their previous album was Liberty and first single Violence Of Summer (not a bad song at all) both stiffed big time - Ordinary World is one of their best, very direct, and I think heartbreaking too, with hope as well. It was really a triumph for Duran Duran, and deserved to be a smash.
There's also Maroon 5 who released the massive hit "Moves Like Jagger" in 2011 with Christina Aguilera, which revitalised both of their careers as well as a spot on the voice as Adam Levine and Christina have both been known for their work on the voice. Even though Maroon 5 doesn't sit well with the public nowadays, this was definitely a boost to get their popularity back on streaming services.
"much memed" my dudes, "smooth" is to this day still widely considered one of the best pop-rock songs in existence. there's a reason it took home three grammy awards and it's still beloved twenty five years later. yes, it got memed, but to use that as the metric for "smooth"'s success? really?
John Farnham and You're The Voice. Was up shit creek there in the mid 1980s. Then his manager Glenn Wheatkey mortgaged his own house to get You're The Voice on the charts. It became his biggest hit worldwide
Don’t forget that on this side of the pond in Europe, P!nk was still rocking it from the Try This era and the two singles Stupid Girls and Who Knew. P!nk has never had a bad spell in Europe or Australia. 💙💛
C'mon Meatloaf. I'd do anything for love. He came out with that song like 20 years after his last his. Not only was it a huge hit, it was actually a bigger hit than any of his prior songs. It was his only song to hit nunber one. So, length of time between hits and highest chart position should easily put him at number one on this list
I found Pinks resurrection song strange here. U &ur hand was a moderate hit in Europe. The other singles were way bigger. Yet in the states this song revived her career. You can see why labels have conflicts in which singles are released in which territory. The American market seems to be very unpredictable.
What about U2 releasing Beautiful Day. They started going off the rails with mixed reception from the Pop album in the 90s but their career rebounded with Beautiful Day.
The Chili Peppers should definitely be on this list... TWICE! After John's departure in 1992, where he spiraled down in drug addiction and Anthony fighting his own battle with drug addictions, Dave Navarro came in and they recorded One Hot Minute. At the time and now considered a great underrated album, it was an underwhelming album compared to Blood Sugar Sex Magik. John came back in 1998 and they recorded Californication, which became their most successful album. The Chili Peppers released 2 more terrific albums in By The Way and the grammy award winning Stadium Arcadium. John left again in 2009 and they released 2 albums, I'm With You and The Getaway, which were still good, but nothing close to what they released prior to the 3 albums mentioned above. Not saying that Josh was terrible or anything, he just didn't have that Frusciante genius. In 2019, John came back and the Chili Peppers' sound return to form with Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen. Like I said, 2 great comebacks in their career.
Exactly! Trouble was top 10 globally, doesn't make sense...the album charted reasonably well too, it just took a while for people to accept and embrace a no nonsense, strong woman in the industry I think...
I don't think that Pink should be on this list because she didn't really disappear or have some kind of downfall before U + UR Hand. I don't recall anyone at the time being surprised by Pink having a hit song when it came out. It wasn't like she'd been MIA for a decade or something.
N○ 1, of course... Prince with "The most beautiful girl in the world" ! Everybody was saying he was finished with the name change and the lack of success... He putted out this single independantly, away from the majors in 94 and hit top of charts in many countries in Europe... for à pure artist like him, this song probably saved his life too.... Can’t beleive you don’t mentionned it 😮
Aerosmith x Run DMC version of Walk This Way is many times better than their original version and is still a banger. Santana also made a great move with getting Rob Thomas to sing on Smooth, his voice just feels right for this song
@@anna-mariageorgiades3628 Bon Jovi did. Dream Theater were on a commercial decline since a couple of albums earlier and almost considered calling it quits, and then Scenes came out and was a return to form that boosted their career all over again. To me that's also a comeback
1:50 - Many people skipped “Try This”? You’re joking right? It’s where she won her only Grammy (Trouble), and it has one of her most popularly used songs in films (God is a DJ).
That cover of one of Talking Heads' greatest songs he did with The Cardigans - Burning Down The House - also comes to mind. That song and clip alone put Tom Jones back into the limelight for a newer (at the time) generation that would never have given him a chance otherwise.
Nmber one should be by far Robbie Williams - Angels. That man was in rehab, a dezaster and then he wrote this song and became a real international superstar.
"Smooth" by Santana takes me back to my college years, and "What's Love Got To Do WIth It?" by Tina Turner takes me back to my elementary school years. My personal favorite comeback was Fiona Apple in 2020 with "Fetch The Bolt Cutters." Now make one of "Top 10 Musicians Who Really Need To Make a Comeback." Lauryn Hill, Christina Aguilera, and New Radicals are just a few of the artists who belong on that list.
I understand why "U+ ur hand" was a success, but in way does it compare to "Who knew", it doesn't need any public recognition because it's simply that good.
it was 5 years and she was completely written off by everybody, she struggled to get re-signed, after having a #1 every year of the 90s and being the biggest selling artist of the 90s to not being able to chart and getting paid to leave her virgin contract, it was an almighty comeback no one saw coming.
One you missed, and it isn't insignificant...Jive Talkin', the Bee Gees. Their career was in the dumpster by the mid 1970's, and Jive Talkin' brought them slowly back into the limelight as well as up the charts. Their history from that point on...pretty well known little soundtrack titled "Saturday Night Fever". Just sayin'.
Should've been at least an honorable mention: "Thunderstruck" for AC/DC in 1990. The band members were having deep personal problems prior to this, and this single, along with its accompanying album "The Razor's Edge" marked AC/DC's revival.
Back in the day - Bobby Vinton record sales were drying up and was informed his contract would not be renewed. He released his final song, My Melody Of Love, with lyrics in English and Polish about his farewell to his career. And that was that. Except. It unexpectedly became an international hit revitalizing Bobby's career which lasted for many more years until his death. There are many cases like this - sort of the opposite of a one-hit wonder.
I was so excited when P!nk released U+UR Hand in 2006. I just knew it was gonna bring her back to the spotlight where she belongs. Cher & Tina = Legends! After Glitter and Charmbracelet, I thought Mariah was done & that made me so sad because I am such a fan, but when TEOM was released and she went back to #1 I seriously got chills!!!
Interesting you had Aerosmith on this montage for a different song than I was thinking. I had thought of them for their song "Dream On," which essentially launched their career at a point when they thought they might never make it big.
I can't believe you left out Kylie's greatest comeback in gold lame hotpants! That was an epic comeback after many difficult years trying to shake off her bubblegum image. Please add Spinning Around to your next comeback video.
American Idiot should 100% be on this list. Green Day went from contemplating if they even wanted to keep making music before that album to becoming one of the biggest bands in the world again.
Madonna herself had a couple of moments of her own. After her early 1990's Erotica era, she was being quickly shelved as a 1980's has-been, but then she released Frozen and she experienced a massive career revival. Next decade, she struggled after her original American Life music video nearly destroyed her career. She then released her massive hit Hung Up and started what some nowadays call Madonna's last era of mainstream greatness. One or the other should be considered in this list far more than others were.
She had a lot of great songs in between Erotica and Ray of Light, though: I'll Remember, Take A Bow, You'll See, and then of course the whole Evita soundtrack!
I know it was very recent but I think Miley Cyrus "Flowers" needs to be added to this or future lists like this. Eminem's new "Houdini" song is also a good one!
To be fair to Try This, it’s one of Pink’s criminally underrated album that didn’t get attention. It did fairly well, but I get it why she was dissatisfied on the album.

OK, I'll go there. Donny Osmond "Solder of Love". When it was released, DJ's were instructed not to reveal the artist. After a few days of play and word of mouth, they started plugging Donny's name.
You have Peter Gabriel to thank and now defunct WPLJ radio station for Donny's comeback❤
I think one valid one that isn't here is Ordinary World by Duran Duran.
As much as I love Mariah Carey being on this list, the m I still glaring omission from this list has to be "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" by Meatloaf. Meatloaf was already considered a long time has-been when he released that single, which revived his career.
That song gives everything. It just hits hard.
@@728huey Totally agree. He was basically down and out when he released that and Back Into Hell album. He was suddenly relevant again.
Agreed
I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that. How did Meatloaf not make this list? Seriously, I thought for sure he would be #1.
Me too!
Surely Meatloaf's career never needed saving. He was awesome all the way.
I agree
Ikr ????
Santana Smooth is a guilty pleasure song 😅
Love it
Pink is also one of my favourite artists
why so guilty? he got 16 grammys that year!
Emancipation of Mimi is one of the greatest albums of all time
C'mon
Meatloaf. I'd do anything for love. He came out with that song like 20 years after his last his. Not only was it a huge hit, it was actually a bigger hit than any of his prior songs. It was his only song to hit nunber one.
So, length of time between hits and highest chart position should easily put him at number one on this list
Leave Me Alone was my favorite off that Pink album, and all those songs are still in my workout playlist!
Tina Turner's comeback came in 1983 with her cover of Al Green's Let's Stay Together with the BLF.
Pink may have had a slump in the USA, but not in Australia, she has a big fan base downunder.
Indeed, but especially in the US market. In Europe, Pop and the Popmart Tour actually performed well, the album even produced 3 Top 10 hits in the UK.
I think the Album Songs of Innocence kinda did the same thing. Sure, they forced it on everyone's iTunes account, but it worked.
great song - however, they continued the journey after that...
Blah blah blah, nothing you have said matters, the red hot chilli peppers have been garbage for a long long time
@@TrevorParsnips Whatever helps you sleep at night...
@@jonathanmartin8113 you got rid of my comment...
She said she wants some Marvin Gaye, some Luther Vandross, a little Anita will definitely set this part off right.
That pink album try this had trouble on it, which was an amazing song. And it did catch on.
It tanked the Billboard charts BUT the movie White Chicks gave Trouble a good kick.
“Maria Maria” is by far their BEST song. I love that song.
Can’t beleive you don’t mentionned it 😮
I was really expecting to see Maria by Blondie on this list. I consider it one of the greatest comeback songs EVER.
Great song! However, nothing since...Love Blondie though - bought the CD and "Parallel Lines" was the first album I ever bought.
Prior to Maria
I want that man same album
More global success
People missing out on Who Knew would've been a tragedy! It's such a beautiful song. Has such a powerful meaning to me❤
Aerosmith x Run DMC version of Walk This Way is many times better than their original version and is still a banger. Santana also made a great move with getting Rob Thomas to sing on Smooth, his voice just feels right for this song
Gives a massive shout out to crossovers!!
I wouldn't say it's better than the original, but they both are enjoyable in my opinion.
@@tedfebo1741 In my opinion version with Run DMC is more energetic and for me is nicer to hear
I totaly agree! It set a new standard for cross overs! I loved it, right when its came out! I was fan of both bands, before!
Spinning Around by Kylie Minogue. The gold hot pants helped as much as the song
I'd add Bon Jovi's It's My Life and Dream Theater's Dance Of Eternity :D
It wasn't a comeback
@@anna-mariageorgiades3628 it was
@@Mr.Goldbar a comeback from where? They didn't disappear for 10 years.
Californication (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Get Lucky (Daft Punk)
Incomplete (Backstreet Boys)
Tina Turner had the best comebacks on this list. 🎉
That’s easy with such terrible music on this list
Meatloaf!!! "I would do anything for love, but I won't do that". 🙂
And Cher has to be on here several times. I never thought her to be gone......but damn the comebacks.
I miss Tom Jones with ”Sex Bomb” from 1999 on this list.
That cover of one of Talking Heads' greatest songs he did with The Cardigans - Burning Down The House - also comes to mind. That song and clip alone put Tom Jones back into the limelight for a newer (at the time) generation that would never have given him a chance otherwise.
Thanks to Carlton Banks he was very relevant in the 90s hahaha
He's career wasn't revived though. It wasn't like he disappeared or didn't do very well.
Coming Around Again by Carly Simon should be on here. What a legendary comeback single!
Honourable mentions:
Hozier - Too Sweet
Bon Jovi - It's My Life
Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous
another honorable mention could be Johnny Cash - Hurt
AC/DC - Thunderstruck
George Jones - He Stopped Loving Her Today. George said “nobody will buy that morbid son of a b***” but he was wrong. It rescued his career.
@@toddnorman8939 I was thinking this.
They're not comebacks.
Smooth is one of my favorite favorite songs of all time!
Nmber one should be by far Robbie Williams - Angels. That man was in rehab, a dezaster and then he wrote this song and became a real international superstar.
I can listen to Smooth, anytime, anywhere!
Aerosmith and Run DMC is so legend
I understand why "U+ ur hand" was a success, but in way does it compare to "Who knew", it doesn't need any public recognition because it's simply that good.
Mariah was your #1 choice over Tina??? Mariah only had a couple of years between Glitter and her "comeback song" We Belong Together. LOL!
That was my exact thought.
it was 5 years and she was completely written off by everybody, she struggled to get re-signed, after having a #1 every year of the 90s and being the biggest selling artist of the 90s to not being able to chart and getting paid to leave her virgin contract, it was an almighty comeback no one saw coming.
@@ElkahJones That may be true, but to be the #1 is a JOKE! Number 6 or 5 is more like it.
@@rrubio6660 but we belong together was a massive hit it was number 1 for 14 weeks like that’s insane
@@michaelpark3823 I think you're missing the whole point, but I won't hold it against you.
9:00 “man it’s a hot one… 100 chart topper.” Classic line 😆
“It’s my life” cover of no doubt?
Also waiting for some Canadian comebacks: Nelly Furtado, Bryan Adams, Alanis Morissette
Womanizer by Britney Spears is catchy af!
Someone needs to go back and recheck the section titles on the timeline. Cher - Believe is listed as Mariah Carey - Believe
Feel like there could have been a mention of Madonna - Hung Up
IT wasn't a comeback.
Traveling Wilburys helped a few career.
Hey Soul Sister will ALWAYS put me in a good mood 😊
Cher should have been higher on that list. Believe literally changed the face of Pop music and it permanently cemented her status as a pop legend.
John Farnham You're the Voice
One you missed, and it isn't insignificant...Jive Talkin', the Bee Gees. Their career was in the dumpster by the mid 1970's, and Jive Talkin' brought them slowly back into the limelight as well as up the charts. Their history from that point on...pretty well known little soundtrack titled "Saturday Night Fever". Just sayin'.
Good you point though many forget that they had a career before the disco music.
This is so awesome love you watch Mojo watch your videos every day
In Europe a-ha hat a big hit with summer moved on in 2000. Her last big hit before was crying in the rain in 1990
Pinks Im not dead was a brilliant album. Who knew and Leave me alone Im lonely. Its so damn good. Who knew is phenomenal ❤❤❤
Should've been at least an honorable mention: "Thunderstruck" for AC/DC in 1990. The band members were having deep personal problems prior to this, and this single, along with its accompanying album "The Razor's Edge" marked AC/DC's revival.
I have two suggestions: James Brown ("Living in America") and Ricky Nelson ("Garden Party").
Just like a pill is what saved PINK! Her best song ever!
Maybe this should've been a top 20 list.
Love these types of videos
Good list MOJO👏🏾👍🏾🤟🏾
Cher is one of the few artists that used autotune properly and got a hit out of it.
She's the first one.
I can't believe you left out Kylie's greatest comeback in gold lame hotpants! That was an epic comeback after many difficult years trying to shake off her bubblegum image. Please add Spinning Around to your next comeback video.
With "Where the wild Roses grow" she already had a mini comeback, but yes- "Spining around" brought her back on the big stages.
forgot about Donny Osmond "Soldier of Love"
American Idiot should 100% be on this list. Green Day went from contemplating if they even wanted to keep making music before that album to becoming one of the biggest bands in the world again.
We belong together staying at the top for 14 weeks will forever be iconic
And not because of streaming especially on Spotify like the last 5 years of todays number 1 songs.
Hung Up was ONLY a success because of her blatant ripoff/rehash of ABBA's riff. Without that the song would have been middling at best.
I know it was very recent but I think Miley Cyrus "Flowers" needs to be added to this or future lists like this. Eminem's new "Houdini" song is also a good one!
Hope to see it with Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Rihanna and Lady Gaga 😢
To be fair to Try This, it’s one of Pink’s criminally underrated album that didn’t get attention. It did fairly well, but I get it why she was dissatisfied on the album.
Mary J. Bile -Be without you
I love Cher, Pink, Tina Turner and Mariah Carey. ❤
Alice Cooper Poison! Hello!
