Ms. MOJO, do you need to feel validated by acting like you were part of "the moment"? Because "the moments" are beautiful and touching without you trying to mansplain everything for the audience.

    It’s also important that Craig’s monologue about Britney came at a time when pop culture was at the peak of ‘no right to privacy’ paparazzi (the Bling Ring crimes were just 18 months away) and this was truly a unique move to actually call out bullies when mean was equated with cool … that monologue was more prescient than he ever thought

    I was REALLY PROUD of Dakota Johnson. She stood up to Ellen telling her no you were invited but you didn’t show. Dakota had every right to say that. If Ellen hadn’t opened her mouth to be snarky Dakota wouldn’t have even brought that little fact Ellen was indeed invited but made an excuse not to go.

    • @clothilde1623
      @clothilde1623 Місяць тому +16

      I couldn’t agree more! To quote John Lennon, talk about ‘instant karma’. That horrible witch DeGeneres tried to score some pathetic pity point by claiming she hadn’t been invited, only for Dakota to reveal that not only had she indeed been invited but that Ellen had done exactly the same thing to try and embarrass her before. A true punch-the-air “You go, girl!” moment and I love that it’s immortalised online in case anyone forgets what a shady piece of work DeGeneres really is. I’m not a fan of Dakota Johnson’s acting but I sure as hell love her for exposing Ellen for what she really is live on her own show, hahaha!

    • @aysada
      @aysada Місяць тому +6

      @@clothilde1623 Glass houses… You mentioned instant karma. Laughing at somebody else getting exposed and cheering the person exposing them On could bring some bad karma your way. I’m not saying Ellen is a saint but unless you worked for her, you were unlikely to have seen that side of her. Seems like there’s something there that makes you so happy to see her called out. Did you have some personal experience where this animus was born? Because I mean, Johnny Carson and Jay Leno are widely known to have been way bigger jerks and people still worship Carson so why they hate on Ellen so much?

      Jay Leno and Carson didn’t have the tagline to their show. Be kind to everyone. Ellen did. I just appreciate that this was the first of many things she did and people called her out for. Ellen wasn’t a very nice person and this highlighted it.

    • @aysada
      @aysada Місяць тому +2

      @@Idontwant1 By that standard, no one succeeds. No one is a saint. No one is always kind and certainly not in the entertainment industry, where random strangers who don’t know celebrities often hate them because of glimpses that are given to us by those who feel slighted by them. Unless we live with them and go through what they go through, it’s probably not fair to label them not nice. I felt a lot of the bigotry and hate that has come Ellen’s way for years when she was blacklisted because of something she could not control and that people had no business hating her for. Because it has nothing to do with them and it’s none of their goddamn business. She lost everything and rebuilt her career, and despite all the nastiness and backstabbing that she went through, still attempted to be kind to others, and if you ever watched her show she was. She may not have been all the time, but there are three sides to a story and from what i saw her kind acts outweighed any snarky ones or bitchy ones. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I know I would not pass that kind of a test if Ellen didn’t.

    • @aysada
      @aysada Місяць тому +3

      @@Idontwant1 also, I wonder if those people that called her out, had their shit called out on them how they would feel because Dakota Johnson came in guns blazing because over some perceived shit that she said Ellen gave her the year before about not going to her party. so she clearly didn’t like it when her shit was called the year before yet there she went and did it right back. talk about not being nice And by the way on the show, this started as Ellen joking. Dakota was the one that took it seriously with her lack of charm or charisma or humor.

If the voiceover had paused even one or two seconds, it would have really communicated what made that moment so unforgettable. Meanwhile, I was also really disappointed you didn't include any of Colbert's emotional moments, many of which made huge impact -- his conversations about grief with Joe Biden, Anderson Cooper, and Andrew Garfield. Or his questionnaire response from Keanu Reeves on what happens when we die. I also would have included Jon Stewart's heartbreaking monologue after 9/11.

    Not your typical talk show, but in Inside the Actor's Studio, James Lipton interviewed Jack Lemmon. Lipton mentioned a scene in Days of Wine and Roses, in which Lemmon's character was an alcoholic. Lemmon said, "which I am, by the way". Lipton asked him if he was answering as his character in the movie, Lemmon said, no he himself was an alcoholic.

    Hey Narrator, thank you for treating Regina King's segment with class, and not going into details. I'm sure all parties involved appreciated the gesture. Well done.

    I remember watching Letterman’s infidelity apology in real time. It was one of the most amazing moments in television history. The way Dave was able to be completely open while also getting laughs was threading a needle in a haystack.

    Jack Lemmon on Inside the Actor's Studio (that counts as a talk show, right?) was such a wonderfully open and frank interview, culminating in Lemmon's first ever public acknowledgement of his alcoholism. Profound, moving and engaging.

    This is great and heartfelt but what is perplexing to me is that a studio audience will LAUGH at just about ANYTHING. Even when the hosts/guests are being serious and sharing their heart, you still hear little snickers and laughs scattered throughout and it shows what cynicism still exists even when people are trying to be serious.

    I like how David Letterman talks about getting support from everyone
    Like if he had gotten a cancer diagnosis
    No you cheated on your wife ! And to top it off with someone at work.
    Thats not exactly an apology
    Instead he focused more on the blackmail

      From what I gleaned from the clip, Letterman was publicly revealing what was happening to him for the first time so the audience had no idea what he was talking about and where he was going with it. As it was a live entertainment show I think they were laughing out of expectation that he was setting up a joke, like usual, and then as it became more apparent what was really going on, from discomfort. I might be wrong, but that was what I took from it. I expect they were totally blindsided by the whole thing.
