Agreed! Crazy as hell, but EPIC!
I agree, yes they are
I can see Rebecca singing a few songs in between recording this video. I can see her breaking out the MC Hammer dance lol. That video needs to be uploaded on the UA-cam channel! Also singing right said Fred’s “I’m too Sexy” song. The would be priceless !!
HOW COME , VANILLA ICE IS ON #18 PLACE? IT SHOULD BE #1
All of them are great aside from Sock it to me,Barbie girl, hunter, and Nothing really matters,I mostly disliked the songs.
I GLADY take the “ridiculousness” of ‘90s music over the BULLSHIT of today.
DAMN STRAIGHT! The truth can hurt
Major same! Especially with Busta Rhymes music videos.
Me too
Totallly!!!
Too right
Ridiculous? Half of those music videos are pieces of art! They belong to be played in a museum of music as the best examples of 90s.
she literally said at the beginning of the video. not saying they r bad just saying the music video is over the top.. listen before you comment.
The word ridiculous sure UPS the clickbait quotient.
@@coopertas513 It's not over the top. I don't understand why now video clips are so bad. With Lady Gaga they stopped making good clips.
Thank you. Now I don't have to type
You stole those words from my mind. These music videos are awesome
who made this list? a 21 year old boy who doesn't understand the context of the 90s?
I was thinking it was written by some who heard about the 90s second hand from someone who read a book about the 90s written by a 15 year old.
My thoughts exactly.
Maybe a 15-year-old kid who is so "cool and edgy" .
A millennial
@@Wildman-zh8lg hey hey we grew up to this , I blame this list on some gen z or alpha bulls
These aren't ridiculous, they were just way too ahead of their time.
Exactly.
So was DEVO.
No, they are *timeless* but they all belong in the 90s, the perfect time, not ahead of it. Drop your pretentiousness.
@@mham1330No, everyone in the 80s understood Devo, they sold a lot and had hits in dance clubs... they're timeless but don't flatter yourself, chiId, they were acclaimed already.
As a person in my early 40’s, this list may as well be called “music that presses my nostalgia buttons”.
Black Hole Sun video is awesome. It reminds me of a dark movie which title escapes my mind right now. Edit: I finally remembered it. It's Requiem for a Dream.
Yes! I totally agree!
Bark like little son and Requiem for a Dream sticking your head for days
That's a great video
It's a trippy video for sure
Should NOT be on this list!!! As said b4, IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Being Ridiculous is the Entire Point of EVERY SINGLE Missy Elliot Video
SERIOUSLY!
Tellu you don't understand Missy🤦♀️
@@MarinerLain56omg it's a music video. Seriousness went out the window... That ship has sailed when it comes to seriousness
I was one of those effects artists that helped make "Hunter" by Bjork, at Digital Domain in Venice, CA. I also helped make one other video I'm surprised didn't make it on your list - "What's It Gonna Be?" by Busta Rhymes with Janet Jackson, directed by Hype Williams. That was quintessential 90s hip hop music video stuff going on in that one.
Thanks for your contribution 👍 😊
I’ve loved Bjork since discovering the Sugarcubes! I’ve still got my LP Life’s Too Good somewhere. She loved blending art with music, that’s for sure.
Bjork's hunter video is genius and fits her style perfectly!
I love What's It Gonna Be. Soo good
I thought the marionettes in “No Diggity” were an homage to the Lil’ Penny commercials of that time.
It was.
Penny Hardaway’s mascot from his Nike commercials when he was with the Orlando Magic, voiced by Chris Rock
Thank you!! I came here to say this!
@@ellcee1750same , I was like watch mojo ain't hip to lil'penny
This is why people of the future shouldn't judge music videos of yesteryear. They have no idea what topical issues/humor of the time are included in the videos.
What people call these music videos ridiculous is what every musician called artwork
Groove is in the Heart still makes me happy all these years later. The video, however, is like an acid trip, haha.
Love that song, and D-Lite! It always sticks in my brain for hours after hearing it, just like I'm a Barbie Girl...for some reason, I just love it!
Pretty sure the marionettes in Blackstreets “No Digity” was a reference to the very popular, at the time , Nike “Lil Penny” ads.
I was about to write the same thing.
^^^^ This is 100% correct and shouldn't of been hard to research.
I was about to say. Glad I'm not the only one that knew that.
Yep!
Was just about to say this
How do you manage to make a list of 30 videos and don't include Wynonna's Big Brown Beaver by Primus, Closer by Nine Inch Nails or anything by Tool?
Yup. Let alone no Busta Rhymes music videos.
Smells like 7 layers
That beaver ate Taco Bell
I came here to say this. The absurdity of Wynona's Big Brown Beaver is awesome, quintessential 90's.
Because just like most of the 30 sans Hoff, boy bands and Joey....they still are awesome
Did you really ask why a top whatever countdown that says things like “we’re here for it” why they put almost no thought into their list. . .
Wait, is this a list of "ridiculously 90-esque videos"? Because at least 70% here is FAR from plain "ridiculous"...
Being a teenager of the 90's , I was addicted to much music. I remember everyone.
I was in my 20's. Feeling old here.
We Gen X are versatile
( Another GenXer here ) ... Because ( as Miley Cyrus says ) I used to be young .
♑✍️🇸🇯🇦🇺
I was too 😂
Right!? Is this not just an entire list of nostalgic bangers!? What’s funny is I’m watching this staying overnight at my childhood/teenage house due to a water issue at my apartment building. Makes me feel right at home. 🥰
Everytime I see “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now” I instantly think of Pop Up Video😂
I loved Pop Up Video!
@@deborahblackvideoediting8697 I still sing it, pop up video 🎵
Oh my God, pop up video...lhad completely forgotten about that...wow,thank you!
You missed Meat loaf, "I would do anything for love, but I won't do that" also directed by Michael Bay and seemed over the top at the time but really showed his range
Also Objects in the Rear View Mirror appear closer than they are (Robert Patrick is even in the video). Meatloaf did such awesome mini movie music videos, RIP Meatloaf ;P
Every time I am reminded Bay started with music videos feels like a sucker punch because his creative direction pivoted hard
@@adeadphish7931 he also did the first "Got Milk?" Commercial.
Can't have a list of weird 90s music videos without Bjork 😂
I saw the Sugarcubes at a theater on South Street in Philadelphia in the extreme late 80s or early 90s. Bjork gave me a tremendous headache. I hid out the last half of the concert in the ladies room.
😂
@@4bibimimi😆😂🤣
Or wierd AL YANKOVICH !!!😊😊
There's also Madonna's "Bedtime Story", which was a Björk cowrite... :P
The chili peppers are actually covered in gold, not silver, in the Give it Away video.
Yes, was Stephan Sedanoui idea since he made fasion photography too. Also he did Scar Tissue idea of the desert
To be fair, it was in black & white. I couldn't even tell the difference BACK THEN.
It just goes to show the lack of research these UA-cam AI generated videos are responsible for
Isn’t it funny how MTV was perfectly OK with half-naked women booty shaking all over videos, but men taking off their shirts was taboo?
I think Madonna''s, Björk's, Alanis Morissette's and many others videos of this era are pure art.
The 90’s were definitely a time to be alive
agreed unlike today
All of these music videos are actually great and timeless.
Yep
No
The Bad Touch by The Bloodhound Gang music video is a weird one indeed
Catchy tune I think, but I heard that they were putting real poo into their mouths.💩🤮
A gem*
Black hole sun is the best video in the world that’s how you’re supposed to make a video like a dreamscape and nightmare
RIP Chris Cornell
Nobody was complaining about "cultural appropriation" when Madonna made the music video "Nothing Really Matters". That is entirely a 2010s & 2020s thing.
Mo Money Mo Problems should be on here. After that video a bunch of rappers all started wearing those shiny suits.
I agree… for sure!!! But with all the shit with Diddy… they probably don’t want to deal with that negative commenting
@@brandongordon2392 Good point. Still, think it should be mentioned.
Back in 1999, Gerardo said in an interview on MTV that the Rico Suave video embarrasses him now.
It embarrasses me too.
She was also an actor turned rapper.
Typical these people have a one hit wonder. Made a ton of money and got famous with people still talking about it in 2024. And they whine about it. It was the times. Enjoy it don’t regret it.
2 hit wonder. Manejando is an utterly embarrassing classic.
Jane's Addiction been caught stealing
Did anyone ever notice that all of Ace of Base’s songs had the same beat?
Yes, every one of them except "It's A Beautiful Life"
Did anyone ever notice that all of classical music had the same violins, or all metal using the same guitars ...
@@DrKuryakin in other news, water is wet. But that's of course not what he means. I don't know much about music theory but even I know that a beat is not an instrument but a characteristic of the composition.
@@mjouwbuis what i ment was that its a silly comment to make, of course it sounds the same, its their sound
@@herbschmitt Everytime it rains.
While Tori Amos' videos might lack the cheesiness or campiness of some of these entries, "Caught a Lite Sneeze" is visually stunning for its surreal imagery. The UK version of "Cornflake Girl", with its references to the Wizard of Oz and an intentional B&W Twilight Zone and B-movie aesthetic, might lean closer to this list.
I beg your finest pardon, Barbie girl’s music video is a work of art
I don't know about cultural appropriation. Japanse people love when foreigners wear their clothes. They have places that cater to rent and sell their clothing to foreigners.
Cultural appropriation has to be the stupidest term ever. All cultures take from other cultures if not we’d all be segregated and we all would be stuck in the Stone Age still.
@@slaytanicdavidb It's a term closet racist people use to feel good about themselves... along with empathy
We gonna just ignore Beck music videos...?
Soy un perdedor...
"Beercan" is epic, bro! Should be here!
Is Madonna doing the Elaine dance from Seinfeld?! 😂😂😂
Hahahaaha. Excellent
Maybe if you're not picking on the videos because they're "bad," perhaps you should have used "unique" or "interesting" because "ridiculous" generally implies some "bad" to it. You can say something's unique or interesting and it can be derisive or flattering, but "ridiculous" is almost always bad to some degree. "Ridiculous" comes from "ridicule."
Good point!
Yeppers
Yep. Ridiculous literally means "deserving of ridicule" - something to be pointed at and laughed off the stage.
Music videos have feelings too!!! 🦃
It's for clickbait
Any Pet Shop Boys music video from the early 90s should be on here.
The Cotton Eyed Joe video segment made me ask "Are raging barn raves a thing? In Europe or elsewhere?"
Alanis didn't necessarily 'rule' the 90's but she was pretty strong.
You forgot
Everything from Faith No More
Everything from Weird Al
Everything from Primus
I think there is at least one list with Weird Al videos
The 90's are glorious
According to your tastes. To me, the 90s killed the 80s, my favorite decade of music. And I was born in the early 60s (1962).
To each, its own!!!
I miss the '90s. My fashion sense is taking a turn back toward the '90s. I think it's nostalgia.
@@michaeldiaz6224 To me the 60s are a lot better than both the 80s and 90s
The marionette in No Diggity looks an awful lot like little Penny Hardaway
It was a reference to it and Lil Penny is in the video
Barbie Girl may be the epitome of cheesy, but it's fun to sing along to, and my little cousins positively adore it!
Quite a few of aqua songs were accompanied by equally odd videos, from fairytale pirates to space superheroes.
You absolutely forgot about Busta Rhymes, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Static-X, Bon Jovi and so many more! I really hope to see them in part 2 👍
Hmmm puppets on strings.. defo not a metaphor for control by the music industry... i just cant figure it out
I was way too young but I could swear the music videos from the 80’s were much weirder and downright scary. I remember one that featured sentient mannequins that gave me nightmares for days.
Rock It, by Herbie Hancock
@@craigh5236 😲 Holly heck! That's it! That's the music video. For so many years I thought I dreamt most of it but IT IS REAL!!! MY NIGHTMARE IS AN ACTUAL MUSIC VIDEO! 😨😱
...those disembodied walking legs...that mannequin sitting in the chair...the one squirming in the bed...tell me this wasn't made by a serial killer!
I was too young also in my opinion. 80s music videos were weird and creepy 😅
You just made me think of one I think from genesis with claymation or puppets that depicted a lot of famous people, including Ronald Reagan having a nightmare in bed, that completely terrorized me.
Tom Petty's Don't Come Around Here No More with the whole Alice in Wonderland theme. That always made me a little scared when I was 12 years old. I still don't like to watch it really. Even though I love the song. When they start cutting up her body like she's the cake they're eating, yikes! And I'll agree with you about the sentient mannequins. It's just the Tom Petty one is the one that sticks with me when we're talking about scary videos. I even watched it again when he died and I still found it creepy.
If my eyes: Bjork + Tori Amos = can do no wrong.
Who put James Charles next to the AMAZINGLY TALENTED Alanis?
Her video for "Thank You" is incredible.
When does Ridiculous mean Unique? In what world is WatchMojo living in. You are running out of ideas.
James Charles??
Without watching yet, Jamiroquai has to be on here.
If you're talking about Virtual Insanity, I love that video!
If the Madonna video can inspire four drag queens on Rupauls Drag Race on the same episode, then it worked as noteable…
Was wondering if the Eiffel 65- Blue was going to appear. You did Not disappoint.
One of my fave vids, songs and albums
I’m pretty sure the No Diggity puppets were just playing off the popular Sprite Little Penny commercials. Chris Rock voiced a Penny Hardaway puppet like the ones in this video.
Thats what I always assumed as a kid
Celine's video feels like a remake/copy of Meatloaf's video "I'd do anything for love" released 1993
DIDN'T they record that song as a duet together ??
♑✍️🇸🇯🇦🇺
Celine did her version in 96 and Meatloaf released his in 2006.
@@Friendship1nmillion It was written originally written for Meatloaf but he fell out with Jim Steinman who wrote most of his music so Celine recorded and released it in 1996. Jim & Meatloaf finally reconciled and Meatloaf released it as a duet with Maron Raven in 2006. Personally I prefer the duet version to Celine singing it alone.
At least back then artists were unique
My brother reminded me that in the 90s, people used to dance really hard in music videos. I instantly thought of the U Can’t Touch This video, especially the way the women on the stairs were dancing.
It’s a perfect video of the song. Don’t understand why it’s on this list.
I believe most (if not all) of the video for Numb was done without telling Edge what would happen to him (and his reactions to it were genuine).
Says a lot that one of my favourite U2 songs isn't all about Bono :)
I’m sorry…has “ridiculous” come to mean something else? Like a good thing? Bc it seems like you should’ve instead used “kooky” or maybe “uniquely odd.”
"Its all coming back to me now" was written for Meatloaf to sing it but Steinman had a falling out. Luckily years later Meatloaf did get a chance to do it and you can see the difference.
Yep, it worked better as a duet.
David Hasselhoff was not an actor dabbling in singing, he was a singer that dabbled in acting.
"It's all coming back to me now" is one of my favorite Ciline Dion songs and the video is perfection.
Could have most all of the Chili Peppers vids on this list , they still today are making some strange ones , but the music is still good.
Honorable mention: the video for Republica's 'Ready to Go' (rock version). The virtually-constant cuts from one zooming image to another gave me sensory overload (I can probably can count on one hand the number of times that has happened to me in my 50+ years of life). A catchy song, but I can't watch the video. 😵💫
NOTE: "Cheap 1990s CGI" would have been State of the Art in the 1990s.
A tip to me being a child of the 1960s/70s, I will probably listen to only two or three of these songs willingly.
LOL>
Missing: Aphex Twin - Windowlicker
And come to daddy.
No Remember the time? That's beyond epic
At that point, Black or White, Scream and Earth Song would be thrown in there. All of MJs videos were over the top.
Yessss!!❤
The reason for the puppet in the Blackstreet video is easily explained if you lived during that time. There was a popular commercial featuring Penny Hardaway and a puppet version of him. And when Lil Penny was in the Blackstreet video it made sense... Like a cameo.
Finding it hard to believe there's no Peter Gabriel entry. Dude did some seriously trippy stuff for the _Us_ album.
Soundgarden's Black Hole Sun was nightmarish yet awesome at the same time. The way that one lady smiled while her face getting stretched wider and wider gave me the creeps as a teen... 😅 In the 00s, Robbie Williams gave me similar feelings with his Rock DJ music video. 😂❤
I absolutely love both songs, though. RIP Chris Cornell wherever you are right now. 🪦
Ridiculous/weird music videos are the best. Creativity not being held back. My favorite is 'Gimme Some More' by Hype Williams and Busta Rhymes. And somehow, it's not on here! How is that not on this list!? It's arguably the epitome of ridiculous music videos!
One of the weirdest videos I've ever seen but for some reason liked was - Vitas - The 7th Element.
Keep in mind this is the TOP 30 of about 900 ridiculous music videos from the 90's. For some odd reason thats when the music video industry exploded. I guess it had to do with the ramp up of scale and scope in movies at the time. Also it was a good launch pad for young inexperienced directors.
All your video did was made me add more songs to my Playlist. Thanks
You forgot Garbage
Their vids were all stunning.
You missed to include Meat Loaf’s “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” and Army of Lovers’ “Crucified.”
I was listening to Crusified just yesterday. It was on my Halloween mix for some reason.
Crucified is amazing but the video is a huge wt f? 😂😂😂 still great
I'm still remember the Backstreet boys back in my day
I still remember them across three decades!
Nothing will ever be as great as 90s music and its’ videos !!!
"Hunter" is fricken awesome, the digital effects were very advanced for the time, and the song is a self-portrait of what she was becoming to the people of Iceland. Why wouldn't the music video be a close-up shot of her? It's exactly what the song calls for.
"Sock it to me" is a straight banger.
Lil penny appearance, that marionette, probably paid for the whole music video
I love how the 90s was so weird there’s a top 30 list lol
well it can have a tp 50 and 80's can have a top 100.
The marionettes in No Diggity were a reference to the Nike “Lil Penny Hardaway” commercials
what about KLF's "Justified & Ancient (Stand by the JAMs)" music video?
Trivia: The guy doing pushups in the Black Hole Sun video is the same guy that played Rocky in Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Really? Cool! I had heard that he gave up show business in shame after playing Rocky. Perhaps the interim success of Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, and Meatloaf changed his mind
If by "super fun and very enjoyable" you mean ridiculous, then yes these videos are that. In the 90's I was 16 to 25 yoa and it was so much better than today. We had fun with food, music, fashion, movies, and tv series. That's why so many movies and tv series today are remakes of the 90's.
How did Blind Melons " No Rain " not make the list ? Don't get me wrong , great song and I enjoy the video but it was kind of weird and ridiculous .
You could’ve just made this a list featuring only Busta and Missy
Ridiculous that Busta isn't on the list.
@@VDOTU5 I haven’t even finished watching so I’m shocked he isn’t on here
Basically
Criminal that a Busta video wasn't on here. Just a straight up crime.
Barbie Girl was sarcastic.
- Which one of these videos is most legendary?
- Yes!
Madonna made the best music videos in the 90s, musically and artistically!
Black hole Sun is freaking awesome by one of the best bands of all time with arguably one of the best male vocalists of all time! RIP Chris Cornell 💔
Vanilla Ice - "I Love You" being directed by Michael Bay is very evident with the oversaturation that is evident in his movies even until today...
Peak MTV. What are you expecting?!
Barbie Girl helped spawn a billion-dollar movie with that look. But OK…This probably should’ve been titled, popular in the 90’s but ridiculous now.
If there was a top 10 most ridiculous UA-cam videos this one would be at the top.
Man, the 90’s sound like a cool time to be alive.
It sure was...
Over half of these songs suck.
Agreed
I agree with you, but don't tell anyone I said that. 🤫
A lot of these music videos were probably great on paper ideas, but the execution is bad. 🎉
