- 10 VITAL THINGS YOU NEED IN YOUR GOLF BAG! 10 VITAL ITEMS ALL BEGINNER GOLFERS NEED IN THEIR GOLF BAG! golfers all need certain things in their golf bags, what's in the bag? whats in my golf bag? 10 things everyone needs in their golf bag. we all need some things in our bag to help us play better golf, shoot better scores and lower our your handicap. but what are they? do you need the best driver of 2019? do you need the most expensive irons on the market? I don't think so, for me these are simple things you need in your golf bag, and stupid things all golfers need. lets do it... and lets do It now!
Having recently taken up golf, a vital thing I’m needing is a very healthy bank account 👍
😂😂
James, you're not really supposed to repair a pitch mark like that - rather you should push in from the outside towards the center, that way the grass keeps alive. If you lift it in the center, the roots lose their adherence to the soil and the grass dies. Like the channel though, really good content!
3PH agree . This went against all i learnt from the greenskeeper on repairing pitch marks :)
ua-cam.com/video/GuYXMn4tA10/v-deo.html
Oh, the horror every greenkeeper had just felt... Noooooo. Don't lift the turf.. Tearing of roots is not good 😞🙏🙏
I used to repair them like that until our club put a video on the website how to do it properly not lifting turf in middle of pitch mark but pushing grass from sides of it into the center.
Please James, tell the people in another video that you repaired it the wrong way. That's gonna save a lot of dead spots of grass on the greens...
I remember when I started playing in June my first Goal was to finish a round with the same ball.
I’m a 6 handicap and still lose a ball or two a round 😂
I've been playing golf for 30+ years and not losing a ball is a great goal. Hard to do.
I think that's all our goals🤔
I was taught that you never lift up when repairing a divot because it kills the grass
Yep he did it the absolute wrong way. That breaks the roots of the grass. You're supposed to push inward from the outside.
Great video and content as always. Divot repair should be from the sides to the middle of divot though to not tear the roots of the grass. I always keep sunscreen and lip balm with sunscreen in the bag also. I was taught the glove was to increase friction and to keep the hand dry to now allow slipping on impact...
Watching that pitch mark repair hurts my heart😂 just killing that grass
👍🏼
Its important
Wrong way to repair pitch marks.
Hahhahahaah making it worse
I’m left handed, but play golf right handed....I find the glove protects my left hand from callouses and worst case blisters.
Seems like many people have already commented about the way you repaired the pitch mark. Most courses have signs up on how to repair them to protect the roots.
Good points from you though. I would add sun cream and correct clothing for the weather forecast!! Especially in UK
I'm a beginner golfer, started five months ago and have been taking lessons almost every Saturday. In addition to the things you mentioned, I wouldn't think of setting out without a towel, a club brush, sunscreen (Texas), and mosquito repellent (Texas lol). I also keep a timekeeping device handy (I keep a G Shock strapped to my bag) so I can monitor my pace of play and, well, the time. I like to keep my phone stored away in the bag to avoid distractions, so the watch serves me better. I go through a lot of balls, and I buy used balls (usually mixed Callaways) on eBay or Amazon for less than $50 per hundred. I think this is a better value than cheap new balls. I've never heard the idea about gloves being used to compensate for hand strength. I just thought it was about grip and offsetting the effects of moisture.
Now, dozens of others have already said this, but about the divot tool (pitchfork) technique. Come on James, I'm a beginner golfer and I knew how to fix pitch marks very early on, even though I rarely make them. My golf instructor is quick to remind me how much it costs to build and maintain a green, and he's impressed upon me the importance of being a good steward of the course.
I love this new golfer series, and would like to see some content about etiquette and rules (penalties, drops, etc.). Thanks James and Foxy.
I would also add a towel to clean clubs and balls!!
i use a flannel to clean my balls lol
I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt pain when he repaired the pitch mark
Lifting the pitch mark tears the roots as I have been told. Instead push the sides towards the middle and tap it down.
I’ve found through trial and error the best cheap golf balls are the Slazenger soft balls. Get backspin with them when using my vokey wedges as well. They’re 48 balls for £23 at sports direct when I last bought them but if you lose a couple or few balls a round like I do it doesn’t ruin the fun knowing you’ve lost cheap balls.
Also, I find yellow balls are great if your eye sight isn’t great like mine as it makes them dead easy to spot
Yes new golfer's will notice a difference between budget and premium balls. They will notice how much more money they have when playing a budget ball.
James Robinson: “don’t be the guy who’s not prepared”. Also James: “can I borrow your tee mate” 😂😂😂
The glove worn on your top hand is to make it less likely to let the club slip out of a sweaty hand and to make it easier to hold the club with your weaker hand without it getting sore from added grip pressure and turning causing blisters etc.
Great tips for beginners and it’s good to see foxy out on the course, I’m sure he will succeed having you as his coach
Never seen a Yorkshireman give away so much stuff!
I would add a club brush, towel, hat, sun screen and range finder.
The ultimate multifunctional golf trainer and very useful accessory is undoubtedly the STOW STICK. Not only does it enhance my golf skills, it also ensures the safety and organization of my golf gear while I play. I recommend keeping it in your bag, I’m glad I do…
James you forgot about a golf towel for cleaning your clubs after a shop. Been playing too much with Liam who never cleans his clubs😂😂😂
Liam cleaned the Orkas, for a little while at least. I haven't noticed if he cleans the new Mizunos, probably just throws them back in the bag. Dirty.
Great series idea. Can't wait to see foxy's club fitting video. He would also be a good candidate to test game improvement and super game improvement clubs for you.
Experienced golfers all think that beginner golfers will not be able to tell the difference between a premium golf ball and crap ball. I used to think that the ball didn’t matter that much until I found a premium golf ball that I liked. Once I became hitting that ball only, if I hit anything less, I could tell. As a matter of fact, I used that as a way to get better. I would bring out a single sleeve of premium balls. If I lost those, I then had to finish the round with non-premium balls.
Great vid. Foxy is really coming along now, I do think he was striking the ball better on the range vids though, he wasn't following through as good as he has been doing, but still amazing for a first go round a course.
A towel is a must, specially this time of the year in the UK. Gotta keep them shiny clubs shining. 😃
Every ball performs well when struck with a good swing. Even the cheap ones.
So I love your videos. However, as a superintendent, that pitch mark repair made me cry on the inside. On the other side, you still leveled the surface which is still better than not fixing it at all. Thanks for the content!
Amazing how much stick I’ve got for this. My head greenkeeper says it’s not an issue. Maybe it’s a case of different chiefs have different recipes.
@@JamesRobinsonGolf like I said, if I could get all my members to do that I would be happy. It's not the best but still way better than not doing anything!
I can’t believe the hate I’ve got for it tbh... all of a sudden everyone has turned into agricultural professors. Lol 😂
@@JamesRobinsonGolf actually it would be horticulture experts haha just giving you shit. Thanks for making the videos! Thoroughly enjoy watching them.
I use golf gamebook instead of a scorecard since it allowed me to input all statistics like putts where u drove the ball etc. really recommend
@Tucson Jim My watch does it automatically for me. Even tells me what club i hit and how far.
Wearing a single glove gives +5 moonwalk skill
Great video James, some good points, but we all should push in our pitch marks not lift 👍
Great to see a essentials/etiquette cross over vid. There are a lot of people that step onto a course without the basics in both kit and know how.
A little anecdote about pitch marks...a former club captain once stood a first tee before a comp and checked that every entrant had a repairer. Those who didn’t had the undignified walk back to the shop to buy one. Nobody escaped, long time members, committee men, past captains all who should have known better fell foul of forgetting a very important piece of equipment.
Can’t believe you forgot to mention FORE...a rather different vid if your pal gets taken out by a stray ball, them Pinnacle Gold come keen. 😜
I use the colored tee pegs and I always know my tee is teed up at the right height. Great Tip
Lol I agree with the comments about fixing a divot, I remember watching on GC when I was 15 and a groundsman from St. Andrews or one of the links for the British open, and he showed that you push towards the divot around each side and the tap the raised part down. Viola you are done lol 🙏🏻😂
I’m a mid handicapper and although the top of the line golf balls may only give me a bit more spin/distance it does also give confidence in my case
The 2 thing I would add to a beginners bag that i didn't see mentioned are:
Tape/bandages (for fingers in particular!) I've seen a lot of beginners with blisters, etc!
@J Jimenez Delicate skin? Have you tried corded grips, with no glove on a hot day? Cause I have and they will tear your hands up. I've played my whole life and my calluses still get ripped off..... (I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not it's the internet so if you are😅. )
I wish I could do this beginner series... it's superb and thanks for the tips
Hi James, great video for beginners,I am a right handed but play golf and cricket left handed .🤔🤗😄
The top hand gets the most vibration on the strike. The glove generally adds a layer of protection from that. In my casie gloves raise busters so I don't use one, except for my rain gloves which work very well.
it's good to watch 2 beginner's playing golf
I was taught to repair your ball mark on the green AND ONE MORE!! That’s simply good golf etiquette. On the fairway, your divots should be replaced or repaired, unless in Florida or other very hot locales. In those cases, sanding the divot is preferred. The reason being is the divot will most likely dry out and die from too much sun/lack of water.
Lack of water, in Florida? It rains so often. In So. Cal. I agree, fill with sand or divot mix.
Good video James, but why are beginners out on a full size course? I watched a four ball at my Golf Centre take 15 minutes just to get off the first tee!
One of the first things I put together was a bag of odds and sods that I carry as part of my kit. Ball markers, tees, pitch mark repairer etc. The amount of times I get to the second tee and somebody asks me for a pencil is ridiculous.
You would not go fishing without a float etc? Why do golfers turn up without the equipment needed to play the game. They'll have a £400 driver in the bag, with only 3 balls and no ball marker?
Congratulations on 75K James!!!
club cleaning stuff (towel, brush), and most importantly, sunscreen!
Foxy looks to be off to a good start. 75k James, congrats. One glove is for the Michael Jackson impersonations. Especially the crotch grabs when you get a birdie.
Great video!!
Great tips, good luck with the series.
James - I am left handed in writing, throwing, tennis, badminton, table tennis but right handed batting, golfing, casting!!!🤔🤔🤔😉😉😉💪💪💪🙂🙂🙂 I know - odd ball!!!
I shoot pool / snooker, shoot, archery left handed!!!lol
Great video James. Very helpful.
Great video as always 👍👍👍
Awesome video James
This was an entertaining video. Love your videos.
great video James, really enjoying these types of videos. one or two things I carry that you didn't put on the list throughout is a note book to pad to jot down post round thoughts positives and negatives and a ball alignment tool which have four different shapes on it. On the thought of the golf glove, I am a right handed player but wear a glove on my RH since I feels best for me. :)
Best of luck with the rest of your Beginner series keep the great work coming :)
I don't wear a glove but I have big alien pro grips. Keep up the good work foxy lad 👊
Great video James love your channel
Clearly not for me cause I live in the wrong country, but #11 is a James Robinson. Crucial piece of gear! 👍
maybe one of things a new golfer needs is there own clubs 🤷🏻♂️
I wear a glove on both hands. Helps me avoid adjusting mid swing and gives me more comfort. I change them at the turn. Have to with the sweat, I'm in Texas.
I'm going to try that, as I'm getting blisters on my right thumb if I go to the range 2 times in one week😢
Enjoyed that Jim Bob, nice one.
Few good tips, but for never playing a round of golf he’s doing great
James, if I'm left handed but play golf right handed does that mean I should wear my glove on my right hand? Because my left hand is stronger than my right
Another great video 👍🏻
That's cool about the glove, I didnt know that. I thought it was just to fight off blisters.
Question. What did Mr. Fox shoot his first game? As someone who is super new to golf (only be playing a few months) I'm curious how other newbies compare.
Lots more to come mate :)
4:00, I'm currently a 12.0 handicap and still can hardly tell the difference between a pro-v and a velocity. Top-Flites are pretty obvious tho
Could have used the pitch mark repairer he had in his hand as a ball marker.
Towel and club brush is a must! Nothing worse than chunking your 50 yard wedge and it's a mess with no way to clean them. Also depending on your state, bring some kind of cleaning soultion for your balls. COVID-19 ILLINOIS took away all ball cleaners! Nothing worse than brown green dirty balls! 😂😂
Lots of golf balls is a good idea but you need to put an extra one or two in your pocket. Nothing worse than the walk of shame back to the cart when you need to hit a provisional. It speeds up pace of play too.
Facts
Gotta put a smiley face on both sides, so you never have to pick the ball up to see it! 🙂🙂
Loving the views
Item No.11
Pencil sharpener
For obvious reason no one likes a broken pencil
But also
I resharpen by broken driver tee’s to use for woods and irons
( I’m tight so I also “ recycle “ other people’s long tees that they have broken and discarded “
I figure the left hand for the right handed player is higher up and more susceptible to the vibrations of the club. The glove is like a batters glove and is meant to protect the hand.
How about a Top 12 caddy - Liam🤣🤣🤣
Glove helps with grip pressure.
Need to use a little logic on the glove thing. No need to beef up the weaker hand since your not applying 10 out of 10 pressure. Both hands have more than enough strength to apply proper grip pressure or “grip it like your holding a bird”.
Hello James..Congratulations for videos ..i.m 18 h. In progression 65 years. Old is it possible to have ping i500 for me ?with senior shaft?? Thanks alain french golfer..
Dunlop DDH golf balls vs Pro V1 and Pro V1X on simulator.
To stop blistering on your hand that is mostly on the grip
What are the tees called??? The tee height is something that I am very inconsistent with tee hight, so this would be a life saver
Its called a castle tee.
Most important thing is smartphone with golf app, that you can keep track of shots, keep score, and find distances to pin :)
Always replace your divots and fix ball marks on the green.
No pitch mark, but a bloody great big footprint 😂😂😂
Never never put your initials on your ball. All the members in your club will know there your balls. I keep finding ROG’s balls in my course. I love all his free PROV1’s. 😂
Cracks me up finding balls with the same marks, over and over again. You should thank ROG for all the $5 bills he's throwing your way.
@@tedzink4574 ya it’s great. It backfired Friday. Playing a round we were looking for another players ball and we were mocking him for taking on a hero shot. He found a ball I lost there last week 🤣🤣
@@seantobin515 That is funny.
I couldn't tell the difference in golf balls when I started except the sound difference
Have not worn a glove for over 20 years, has not hurt my game (5 handicap)
How do you know you wouldn’t be a 4 or a 3 if you wore a glove?
Sloe Bone , don’t,know for sure, didn’t make a difference 20 years ago (except in the pocket book $$$), thanks for asking...
A spare golf towel in case you have had an iffy Indian the night before.
Beginners bag... iron covers, ball cleaning sponge, wire brush and castle tees
🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
James that’s a shocking video. No bottle opener? Shame on you, shame!!!!
I wear a glove to prevent the club from slipping. Living in Florida it's hot every day.
and a case of miller lite after you've doubled the first three
nice you killed the grass spot instead of repairing it omg🙈 i am showing this to newbies🤯
I love golfing with people who can’t golf.
I have a 16 handicap. Any tips on getting it to 10
Play from your fairway, aim for the fat part of the green, get great at making 3-5' putts. See you at a 10 soon.
@@tedzink4574 thanks but I just got to a 6 handicap here 1 year after this comment
@@danielrosa4535 Good for you. What made the difference for you?
By the way! Smiley faces on the ball are taken.....at least with a Red sharpie they are!
:0)
Should a beginner always take take Mulligan before they start hitting the green.
What about sunglasses and sun lotion. Beginners will most likely only be learning in the good weather!
Not following through like on the range!!!
NOPE! I never want to play with cheap refurbish balls. They are complete rubbish. Premium balls only.
The only thing currently not in my bag are spare shoe laces.
You wear a glove on the top hand so the club won't be sent into orbit when you release your bottom hand on a bad shot. I've seen a few clubs go flying from the gloveless, sweaty hands of golfmates.
Blisters... I've had alot of blisters on my left hand just from not wearing a glove, all I can say with that is HIT WITH A GLOVE
GreadyLeader6 I play gloveless. The type of grip contributes or prevents blisters and/or calluses.
I have the Winn grips on my clubs. They have different textures suitable for everyone.
Rubber corded grips are the worst for playing gloveless.
@@rushfanjames2112 I'm also new to golf and I'm griping to tight, that's one of my problems
GreadyLeader6 Yes, it’s a psychological thing everybody has experienced in golf. Gripping too tight is everyone’s default when starting in golf.
It’ll take a lotta practice swings and hitting balls to reprogram your brain to grip lightly. Most of all, be patient. Good luck!
Blisters are caused by gripping too tight. The Winn grip + tight gripping = new grips next week. They just don't last.
Ouch!! He's killing the grass! Way to go, trying to teach a beginner how to repair a pitch mark and then doing it all wrong...
