I find it frustrating that I constantly get penalised by not having access to convention promos on account of being in Australia, and this CDMD campaign is 8 months late and convention attendees are getting product before backers. CMON lost me a while back despite liking their games,
I stick to backing zombicide. I won't give them money for anything else. And even at that, if there is any point I can buy something at retail, I won't add that to my pledge
I think this is an important aspect of the whole problem. I totally understand the business side of wanting to make money and having product at one of the biggest conventions in the year is important. But if you are months late delivering to backers, you don't get to sell that product at the convention. A lot of people would agree that CMON doesn't need Kickstarter/Gamefound, but they are going to do it. If we want this to change, we need to stop backing their things. the problem there is they are too big to fail in a crowdfunding campaign, meaning the games don't fund at all and don't get made.
Comics Vol 2, Marvel United Multiverse, CDMD. All were quite late and while I can and expect it, the lack of clear communication is a big reason I didn’t back games I wanted to like Mordred, DCeased, DC united, God of war (looked a bit light but liked the IP and art). Will they notice? No. But backing won’t do anything either and personally their approach burns a fire in me, that could be calmed if they gave clear, realistic communication about timelines. They often do updates monthly but all about art and no word on timelines and status and that always bodes poorly but the uncertainty is the kicker
Completely agree! It’s so annoying. I really dislike the whole gencon because of this. People just walking in buying games because they look nice that we’ve been waiting on for years
I get it, but at the same time the people going to the Con are spending 74-90$ to even get into it. So their paying a premium on top of the price of the game to even get it. Personally would rather wait the extra time then spend the extra money.
Out of all of the Cyberpunk games that have come out or have be announced, I'm interested to see the spin for Ozob. He was a notable and fun character in the video game. It's a universe with such fascinating lore, that we really need a quality board game.
And this is why I don't buy CMON. You get screwed either way. Backers become suckers and retail buyers get a shitty core box that is hollowed out for profit. And CMON doesn't care as long as board members are happy
I will admit that part of what made me back DC UNITED was that CMON decided to use Gamefound. I love the stretch pay. It allows me to get more stuff without haveing to pay upfront, like on Kickstarter. As for non backers getting games before backers, as long as the non backers don't get the exclusive stuff, I am not that mad. It shows that the game is coming out.
Wow, I guess I was living under a rock and missed the entire Godzilla controversy. But I agree, continuing to give comic fans adjacent awards like board game items or Lego exclusive sets is infuriating. If they started to send all-in backers exclusive comic books that we could sell on ebay or whatever to be able to offset the costs of acquiring these items from comic fans it would be fair but so far I haven't received an exclusive comic from board game oems or Lego (via say VIP rewards for points)...
I agree. I was at Gen con and asked them about it, since it was listed as a promo. Inorder to get the Godzilla game, you had to buy DMD, then they would give you a raffle ticket. At a certain time, they would pull the ticket. I wasn't going to spend like a $100 on a raffle ticket.
Backing stuff only for the exclusives or if they boardgame has 0 chance to go to retail and realy is something special that my collection is missing (what is almost never the case). Otherwise I will wait for the retail or the 2nd hand market. CMON is (atleast for me) one of the few companies that has ton of exclusive stuff with their big crowdfunding campaigns. I went all in on CDMD (I love the system) and don’t really care if a new retail box is early buyable on a convention. I would have been worried if they handed out campaign exclusive stuff.
I back CMON only on crowdfunding sites because of the exclusives and only when they’re IP related. I learned that after Starcadia Quest, not having another character when there is already so many available isn’t a problem. Now not having Gamora to go along with your GotG or not having all those extra Sinister Six characters to go along with your Exclusive SS module makes a difference.
CMON should focus on reproducing parts of previous campaigns that weren't designated "exclusive" but shoot up to unreasonable prices on the secondary market. Their "Murder of Crows" product is a perfect example of this. I bought into Zombicide: BP just before Green Horde was announced. Certain pieces of the 1st campaign were then and still are impossible to purchase without huge secondary market mark ups. Also, when mass producing non-exclusive products, if a company wants to realms in ethical, the product should be offered at the intended retail price of the original. WotC, for example, uses unethical business tactics building products with higher MSRPs based on current secondary market values. What companies ought to do when observing a product that spikes on the secondary market is to come to the simple realization that what the spike indicates is demand. When demand goes up, supply should go up, and (since it would cost companies no more to produce the original product for the same price point) any resupply should be wholly apathetic to any entity other than the end user. I want a copy of Murder of Crowz, CMON, the producer of that product and a GAME company (not a collector company), should be able to simply make that a reality. When have you produced enough of a product? When the secondary market value of the product in question is at the same price point as the original when released when new. WotC ruined everything for gamers in general by listening to collectors and forming a reserved list for their GAME. Those collectors ought to have been ignored.
I actually don't have a problem with CMON or others selling games at big conferences before backers receive them., as it is part of the promotion. I have a problem if the games go through to retail outlets before the bulk of backers though. I am a bit annoyed about the Godzilla promo though - if is is an exclusive promo only available via conventions..

I don't like the fact that I get the game I backed after others who didn't, but it's not going to stop me from backing more games. I have enough to keep me busy until my pledge arrives.
I don't care that some people who didn't back CDMD will get the game before I do. One, I don't back games to get "FURST!" bragging rights, I back them because I want to own them. If I get CDMD two months after someone that goes to a convention, I will lose exactly no sleep over it. Two, I'll take CMON selling a game before I have it over a garbage company like Red Joker who takes my money and never delivers a game at all. Best practice is great, but you know what's better? Providing your backers with actual product. After seeing so many campaigns go up in smoke as companies take the money and run, I'm comfortable knowing that if I throw a bunch of money at CMON, I will eventually own the cool game that they pitched to me. I'm far more offended by con exclusive promos that are never made available for broader sale, because we can't all just drop our lives in order to fly to San Diego, Indianapolis, Singapore, or wherever. Oh, and one of the changes with Army of the Dead seems to be the inclusion of character specific objectives for each of the survivors, inspired by the movie. I don't have my copy yet, but that was the thing that was pitched in the advert that stuck out to me.
So many people talk about backers acting entitled, but the real issue seems to be companies like CMON acting like they’re entitled to backers $$$ …they’ve basically destroyed the idea that backers are anything other than people foolish enough to put up with this.
I had all of marvel zombies before backers because my game store got it first. Even though that was to my benefit. I think it's BS. Backer should be first.

CDMD at Gen Con shouldn't bother anybody as there was never a promise to get backers the game first. The value for backing a CMON product is all the exclusives. Other creators need to promise that backers will get the game first because their projects hold little to no value for the money being risked rather than waiting for retail release where we can read reviews and watch play throughs. Now the convention exclusives on the hand are frustrating. I know companies have been using them for decades and they are not going to stop, but it's really anti-fan as so few people can get them.

still waiting for 2n wave of darkest dungeon.......
Rockstars 🎉🤙
It is horsecrap for CMON to do this imo.
lone wolf - campaign coming up....?! I sincerely doubt that.. the page still shows 2023... I joined the newsletter for A YEAR... I received any advertisment of for their products under the sun but not even A SINGLE ONE concerning the project.. not even when it was postponed.... I had to research this on my own.... therefore, I doubt that... and even if it comes up.. I doubt that I will join... if that is the kind of treatment and care they provide PRIOR to a crowdfund campaign... I can only dread what it will be POST-campaign... that's concerning, how make games not campaigns can backfire.. it can be a very good game, I will never know...
Cmon is not getting a single dollar from me. They can shove their overpriced, ultra high shipping games and their 20 expansions on release along their business practices where they came from.
Stop giving CMON interest-free unsecured loans. Just wait for it to hit retail. You keep doing this to yourself.
No offense but it is pronounced “see mon” not come on and they are owned by Asmodee. So it’s all about the dollar.
Did you not make it to gencon this year king?
Sadly not this year
Um it's not a preorder system it's an investment system. Investors get when they get. Please stop pretending it's something more.
Sadly not even close to an investment. There are laws around investors, disclosures, etc. backers have none of that.
Oh yea, ran across this kind of KS with video games too. So disrespectful to backers.
