may I just say I think Roald Dahl is one of the best authors ever. I started reading his books when I was 6 and I never stopped reading his books. All of his books are so wonderful, I couldn't possibly have a favorite. I love them all! He had such a huge impact on my childhood and hes the reason I'm a bookworm today

I also think that most of the films based on his books are good. But they are crap compared to the actual books.

Roald Dahl made my childhood. Before there was Harry Potter, for me, there was either a young boy with a giant peach and the dream of making it to New York or there was a very poor young boy named Charlie who went on a fantastic adventure inside a huge chocolate factory. I loved both dearly, but personally, my favorite story that could make me cry even now, was James & The Giant Peach. I still have the book and the movie and I still read it and watch it pretty often.

I loved the Mr. Fox movie. I rather liked the story as a kid but I thought the movie's version of Fox (a modern day middle aged middle class middle of the road American) was a stroke of genius. Yeah, they changed him a little bit. But it was for a very good reason. Watch it again and keep in mind it's now meant to be a satire of modern American life and I guarantee you'll see my point. It IS true to the spirit of the story, damn it, and I'm sick of hearing people say otherwise.

They kind of rolled right on past "He was a wing commander".
I read his autobiography of his young adult life and war service when I was in high school and it's pretty amazing.
For example, The battle of Athens - when the Nazis invaded - pitted 6 British Hurricanes against more than 50 Messerschmitts as the Brits tried to buy the ground forces some time to escape. Dahl was one of those Hurricane pilots. And he survived.
A lot of other cool stuff but I remember that part particularly.

Unfortunately, I think I saw the movie before I was even able to read, so even when I read the book now, I imagine the insects I loved so much on the silver screen... So, I still see them, for the most part, as the same kinds of personalities that they were portrayed as when I am reading my book... I did finally notice the difference between Spiker and Sponge's silver screen and novel fates, though.

Roald Dahl was infuriated with the film perhaps he would have been more prefrenced with the later film yet his book was also called a childrens classic which is what the original film is called a classic. Did they actually make the film to have the charm and likable characters from the original I believe the answer is no.
