- Transformation is a song composed by Takeharu Ishimoto. It is introduced as a battle theme in Week 3 of The World Ends with You. It has lyrics by Sawa Kato and vocals by Andy (Andrew Mitchell) of "Sixpin".
In The World Ends with You Solo Remix and Final Remix, Transformation and Transformation Transformed replace Someday and Junk Garage from the original release as Sho Minamimoto's boss fight themes. In NEO: The World Ends with You, Transformation NEO Mix serves as Minamimoto's recurring theme, first appearing in his introduction.

The theme isn’t called Transformation just because Minamimoto transforms. Transformation is a math term. Minamimoto even mentions transformations after his boss fight. Even Minamimoto’s battle theme is a math reference lol.

Best version of Transformation. The OG was awesome, and some other versions I've heard tone down the metal elements, but this one retains the heavier sound while adding orchestral elements for ridiculous intensity.
And the vocals are much clearer, sending even more chills up and down my spine
personaly I feel it's too watered down, sure you get clear vocals, but the beat doesn't give the same vibe at all
sounds less intimidating or cruel and more like your generic recent jrpg- rising action feel.
@@bloodybladenum1920 I think that’s a good thing tho. He’s not the same person he was in the first game. The fact he even helped the Twisters as long as he did is proof of that. While he still follows his own agenda like usual, he can still do good. I think the more heroic feel of this version is trying to emphasize that

Given the fact Transformation is all-but-officially Minamimoto’s themesong, I am really curious about how the lyrics connect to his story. We still don’t know anything about him besides math jokes and his being a wacky rebel
The lyrics to Transformation actually apply more to the story of the first game rather than to him. I think the theme is about a transformation of Neku's mindset because he thinks Minamimoto is his actual killer but the theme is encouraging Neku to look further into the situation to see the actual truth. That's why it's a little weird to hear this theme in this game because it doesn't relate as much to this game's story. But I relate the more orchestral and serious sound to maybe representing that Minamimoto has had some character change that will be explored in later games because Neku says he's trying to change his ways and he's clearly not as psychotic as in the first game.
@@sakonan4883 That's an interesting insight but I feel like it helps to try and think about the perspective of the singer. Minamimoto would tell people to open up their eyes because it frustrates him that nobody else sees what he's looking at and he thinks it should be obvious. His profile when he's introduced in the first game says he's amazing in every metric except he gets a fat 0 in cooperation skills, he marches to the beat of his own drum and he isn't gonna wait around for people to keep up. I feel like that ties into the song with the line that he has to break out before he's tamed, he seems to feel like getting involved with people will make him weaker as he has to pull their weight and get on their level.
it mentions a ton of concepts in rapid fire that are hard to keep track of and I'd love to dissect them (stuff about noise, breaking down, etc.). And the verse where he "saw this sprout" is the one I really think will Become Relevant later, like something about his backstory (or I can't help thinking about the Math Kid that is pretty much Minamimoto's only social connection on the thought web)
@@telefeeb1 that makes sense. I did not think of that at all lol. If the theme really is what his character is, Minamimoto is a complex character. Good thing the current games haven’t delved into it yet because it wouldn’t fit the stories of those games. There’s a theory that Minamimoto will be the protagonist of the next game and that would be very interesting.
@@sakonan4883 yeah, it’s interesting to see the plot threads that they’re setting up to make more games with. The shinjuku incident, neku partnered to twice-revived minamimoto, the map showing all the other Tokyo UGs…
I could see a game with Sho going from UG to UG, trying to dethrone the Composers
Maybe that's when Coco can make her request too, she would make a cool and annoying sidekick
(Coco is the strongest Reaper around though and Sho is probably even stronger so regular Players and Reapers wouldn't even be a threat)

They recently released the album version of this theme on UA-cam. It's interesting because it's slightly less orchestral and has more drums and guitars and has a slightly different rhythm that makes it sound more like Transformation - Transformed. Maybe they told Ishimoto to make a different arrangement for the game to reflect a slightly different character in Minamimoto.
