There are a crap ton of things to buy as a wedding filmmaker.
Camera, lenses, lights, drones, sliders, bags, hard drives, and the list goes on.
If you are not careful you could be left staring at an empty bank account.
Starting out I bought a ton of stuff that I just didn't need. Today I adopt a much more minimalist approach to gear.
In today's quick video I talk about the 5 things I stopped buying as a wedding filmmaker so that you an avoid that empty bank account blues.

Great points! Thanks bro! I'll actually be selling some stuff. I am starting to really love this philosophy..."Eliminate who you are NOT, then you will find who you ARE." -who knows

The timing on this video was perfect. I am well aware that we all shouldnt splurge for stuff we don't need, but as we all know...the temptation is there.
I was just looking into macro lenses, when I've never needed to or had the desire to, shoot macro.
Again, great timing lol and good video. Nice tips!

Dude i've been in the same boat. Almost bought some macros but then realized I'll use them like once a year. Better off to just rent :)

I'm not a wedding photographer, but I learned more here than I've picked up on many websites combined. I also like your humble approach to delivering info. You come off as a stand-up kind of person and that's important when receiving info from anyone. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. You fulfill that motto very well. Keep up the great work ... All the best

I also stopped with sliders for weddings. Gimbals for the reasons you listed works very well. I also find that the more choices I have for lenses at a wedding slows me down, instead of just using what I have decided to put on each camera (though this doesn't really help me stop buying lenses and gear 😅).

Totally agree with what you said about focusing on story! In the beginning about switching cameras every two years- just switched to the GH5 from Fuji (inspired by your video!) with the Voigtlanders!

I've been using a 24mm and 50mm on the Canon R6 and it's been working nicely. My only issue is time management and not making checklists to make sure I don't make dumb mistakes like reverse recording, not hitting the sound recorder button, or missing an important shot.

I’m at the point where I stopped even bringing my gimbal with me to weddings! I didn’t use it enough to justify it! As well I have really started shooting most of the day with the Sigma 18-35 with the speed booster in my GH5. Such a nice combo.

Great advices! Thank you. Its true that we can get caught up on buying the latest gears. Just wondering about the tascam dr 10. How many hours does it last with full batteries?

What are things that you guys have stopped buying?

    • @fede35mm
      @fede35mm 3 роки тому +1

Bags - lol. We use regular backpacks with inserts that we have grabbed from old camera bags that have died on us. It protects the gear perfectly and you are not transmitting to the world that you're carrying expensive gear. I work a lot on location (streets of Paris) and theft has become a real issue. I only have the one camera bag from an actual french handbag company that made a few specialty bags, but that's it.

Sorry to spread some hate, but I hope you take this positively. Your content is all over the place, I can't see any definitive points that you're trying to make. To prove my point, your video can be summed up in one sentence: Don't buy what you don't need. Camera, lens, flights these are common things every filmmaker need.
