There was no pain and it was relatively comfortable. I recommend using a 2x4 to elevate the heels. This will remove the movement that is required by the ankle.
I just came across your channel looking for exercises for people going for ankle fusion. I am going. on Tuesday thank you so much for putting us out at alleviate some of my concerns about can I still do squats? Thanks brother by the way, how is your pain level? If you don’t mind me asking.
Just some advice since my right ankle is fused and im also very into weightlifting. Stay away from squats or the rest of the joints in your feet and knees will all begin to break down faster because your body is off balance. I was squatting and doing crossfit for a year before I had to stop from pain. Now I just ride a stationary bike for leg strength. Before I was being hard on my fused ankle I had no pain at all. Now pain every day from the damage caused by squatting.
Hello Sir, I know it's been a while since this video was posted but I have a question. My ankle is naturally fused with calcification due to trauma and I have very limited ankle mobility much like wearing a rigid brace. Did squatting like in the video bother your knee? Thanks for your time.
I recently got my ankle fused going on a months ago. And I have been having concerns about my future capabilities especially when it comes to kettlebell swings and squatting
Thanks for posting this, My left ankle is pretty much fused now, 1/4 inch movement total. Wanting to Start cross fit and there is alot of squats involved, I was a little hesitant about that, but after seeing your technique the out look is good. Have you had any other issues with the fused ankle with aspect of working out? dead lifts, cardio, etc.?
If your ankle was fully fused you would stilll be on your toes doing this. I know because my ankle is fused and I cannot do these too much weight on my toes
I cannot run, period. I've seen some people with fused ankles who can KIND OF run but it looks very flat footed and probably isn't a great idea. I have had to switch my workouts to elliptical and bike which has been a bummer but is better than nothing. Fused ankles suck.
I can run now. You can too! I got the IDEO/ExoSym. Google it and Ryan Blanck in Gig Harbor, Washington. The Veterans Administration purchased mine and it allows me to run and to do many things!
This is like an answered prayer! My ankle is fused at a 90 degree angle so I never thought I'd see the day I can do squats! Wow! Just wow!
Can you do a video walking up and down the stairs? And maybe just walking around? Oh and the pros and cons of your fused ankle? Thank you 😬

I have a fused ankle also. What exercise would you do not to loose your calf muscle? My calf is so small now that my ankle is fused.
Awesome ideas!! I ADORE squats & lunges, but haven't re-entered a gym since my head on MVA.
