You think this is bad. Don't ever fish or hunt in Florida! The FWC appears to be the sole revenue generator for the state next to the lottery and toll system. Those guys are everywhere! Constantly on the water, in the air, ATVs in the woods, and even plain clothes walking the piers and beaches with binoculars. You can be on the beach on a weeknight at 2 without a soul in site, and they will pop up out of nowhere. Getting checked multiple times out on a boat isn't uncommon. Expect to be checked on every boating trip.
If I'm grandfathered in my state due to age for not taking the boater safety course, does that apply in NC as well? I'm getting mixed signals from various states on this. None seem to know for sure.
In North Carolina, any person born on or after January 1, 1988 must complete a NASBLA approved boating education course before operating any vessel propelled by a motor of 10 HP or greater.
I got a ticket the other day for no nav lights where I was anchored nav lights are for navigating not sitting still but I did have a anchor light I wish conservation officers around here would know the law
@@johnmoore6206yeah you need to take off work for court after we already paid to train them on the law, and paid them to harass the public. What a scam!
The agency's Law Enforcement Division only checks for vessel registration, as outboard titles/bills of sale/registrations come into play with lending institutions and insurance companies.
do not trust them. ask a lawyer for legal advice. the only reason they exist is to take money from innocent people. unlike most law enforcement they are pirates.
@@ericmead916 nope never received a fine for anything. Thanks for looking out though. So you been boating for 50 years. So you must be licensed captain by now. If not maybe you should look it up.
So it'd be better if people were boating drunk and they got to stop them? I'd think a day where they don't have to arrest anyone for boating drunk is a successful day.
But registration does make it safer. If someone doesn’t give a crap about registering their boat, they don’t give a crap about maintaining it, or making sure they have the proper items on it. Stopping for registration also leads to checking for impaired boaters. The biggest picture, registration fees paid to the state, go to keeping the waterways open, and maintenance of them. So don’t pay the boater fees, they will just close access to the public for them. It’s that simple. You want to use them, follow the law like everyone else.
Out there harassing folks and generating revenue for the state. I was out at Norman last weekend and you can barely cross one of the inlets without seeing someone boarded. And if they ain't boarding they're just hawking you with the binos every time you drive by. Real fun atmosphere they set out there. Yeah, thanks for your service boys
N.C. is an easier gig. On the water, the douchebag to cool person ratio is much lower in North Carolina than it is in Florida. Can't STAND Florida boaters!

What's unconstitutional? It's a law you have to display your registration. They didn't do that, therefore they got stopped. Are all traffic stops also unconstitutional?
@@JeffSmith-eq3kc ya but cops don't pull you over for a visibly good registration. They can see it from a 100 yards a way I know a game warden told me that after asking for my registration and searching my stuff without cause. They literally pull you over simply for having a boat and then conduct searches with out warrants or probable cause. Existence on the water does not constitute nor equal probable cause. Basically all the rules a normal officer follows they ignore. A normal cop can't just pull you over to see if you got enough belts on in the car they can only do it if they see an clicked belt hanging. So even if you don't have to wear a life jacket they still do the safety check pull you over and dig through your stuff like a commercial trucker for a private citizens life jacket. If it's that big a deal require them to be seen in neon and affixed to the boat in a way that you can see them. Instead of giving exemptions because they can't control drunks or trafficking they need to adjust the law so they don't operate in some grey area at all times. There is nothing that makes their unconstitutional stops legal, they hide behind an illegally written state law that directly contradicts federal law. Nothing in the constitution says except for game wardens. If your that confused or just really like to lick boots I suggest you go and relearn the federal laws on this subject and you will see they are operating outside their bonds and the law and these unconstitutional stops will eventually end up in front of a Supreme court and be judged. Till then yes they will pull people over and until then most will pay fines, the thing is they will eventually run across some law thumping autistic real life version of Sheldon and this will come to light.
I believe that during a traffic stop in a car, you have to be breaking a law to be pulled over or the officer needs to have RAS, reasonable articulable suspicion that you're breaking the law. Upon the water however, courts have allowed this to go by the wayside saying it's a minimal invasion of your time so they don't consider it a violation of your rights. But in my opinion and many others, this is a blatant violation in being secure in your 4th amendment rights. This is why water cops stop everyone for papers/gear check. Sometimes even boarding peoples vessels without a warrant and checking inside compartments. I stopped fishing because I couldn't go out without cops rolling up by my boat disturbing the fish yelling papers please. Feels like nazi Germany. But the courts allow it so what cha gonna do.
