I played this for my mother (80yrs+) to show her how awesome modern music creation is... Tinez YOU are so "Wack". She loved it. Yeah you transcend 3 generations PLUS. Bro.
„Simply making music“ - „just sit down and hit record“. 😊 It‘s inspiring how almost effortless you make it look … and how much fun you seem to have on the way. So true: it doesn’t have to be complex, complicated, weird or whatever. Just sit down and hit record. And: those live shakers are quite nice, actually. Thanks for your time, Ricky, thanks for sharing this video! Cheers!
Thanks GU! That's message for sure! And what suprises me the most is when I'm done and there is something to listen to. It didn't exist before that moment.
I bought an octatrack because of you. Definitely the best thing I've done in my life, this thing rocks, and I’m still learning from you. Keep the good sound vibing ❤
This is amazing! Definitely relate to this process & style a lot more - Works so well for the chillout/downtempo stuff I do! (I NEED AN OCTATRACK EVENTUALLY!) Thanks for such a great video!
Great stuff. When I work with my samplers my first step (almost always) is to pick a key (not C lol) and sample 6 or 7 chords. Once I chop those to pads I can easily build a pattern for the song. I guess my point is that as keys isn't my primary instrument this approach allows me to figure the pattern and what fits together after the sampling process.
here in NZ it is sunday morning and another Ricky Tinez vid just dropped and for the last few years it is 'Church of Ricky' time, sit back and be soothed entertained and uplifted... thank you
Nice! I been digging a similar workflow of dumping long-form recordings of part variations into static and then programming in slot mode. Achieving way more full arrangement throughput now. Love the vibe on this track!
Such a great vibe on that track, and to see you pull it together so fast was really cool. Also I keep telling myself I don't need a Nord Electro but every time I see and hear one in action... hard to keep saying no, YOLO and all that. And your piano chops are growing fast! Nice one.
Niiiiiice… this is one I’ll be viewing more than a few times! When you mentioned the preset “Nord Corea” I was confused for a sec, then I heard the first notes you played and like melted… One fine choice that electric piano… Could listen to your grooves all day…
Always loved your approach to the content you share. So selfless and authentic and always feels like we’re right there in your studio just chillin and making some sweet beats ❤
god, that avalon was *made* to sit next to an elektron device. vibin over here! Simple is the way. I love just plugging my sub37 and mother 32 into a digitakt loaded with 808 and 909 samples, run a pattern til I need to make something new... copy... paste... modify... do it again! having simple sequencers on top of the elektron sequencer is 🔥
those chords are beautiful, i need to take some time to make something with 6/9ths also that "one time" vocal reminds of Astral Phase by Omni Trio for some reason. vibes i guess great stuff
I have the octatrack and a few other equipment and just want a small mixer to use along side the octatrack I see all your setups but no mixer so how you connecting the dawless rigs the octatrack has 2 stereo I run my digitact into a & b but still have to connect 4 others for melody bass and other elements would be great if you could let us know
HAH! This time, I've GOT you, Ricky Tinez! Do you have a Korg EMX-1? No. No, Ricky Tinez, you do NOT. I, however, do. I have waited long for this day, Ricky Tinez. The day on which you would discuss a "simple" DAWless setup, with ANY other piece of gear besides the EMX-1 (or EMS-1). Now, you have fallen into my trap. Do you see me out there, Ricky Tinez? Do you see me, in your mind's eye, standing next to my EMX-1, softly chuckling? Do you? Because I am. Your Octatrack, your Nord... NOTHING you have can touch the insane, elemental, primal goodness of the EMX-1 for simple DAWless setups. BUT... Fear not, for, although you were defeated on this day, there will be others. Now... I shall leave you to contemplate and begin scouring Reverb. (Seriously though, great video - I love the vibe.)
I find it dumb - most times I sit down and I’m like “hey I’m going to write a song” and it’s such a struggle. When I’m just “sketching” I find I write and come up with the best stuff 🤷♂️
I got rid of my DAW setup because I would get stuck clicking around and tweaking after a few minutes. I started to hate recording. Looking to create a dawless setup now.
I find I make some of my best stuff when I I’m just testing new software/techniques/hardware/workflows. I accidentally made a cool ambient track yesterday when I was testing some new recording routings with my hardware.
@@johncitizen8828crazy right?!? I’ve been obsessed with the Torso S-4 the last couple of days. Building new sonic landscapes is my chill place brother!
Starting with a minor 6/9 chord?! Did the algo confuse my music production and music theory feeds?! Or have you just been spending too much time with @mattwildemusic? 😁 Great video as always Ricky!
I don't even know why I keep watching these videos. I understand nothing. Maybe I exaggerate, maybe I do get it a little bit. But mostly I'm just in it for the ride. lol
i quickly learned on YT simply does not mean cheap. the octatrack is wayyyy to expensive for me but is practically in any simple setup. you guys get these send for basically free. we dont get that kinda stuff.
As a piano player, I have to say your progress on the piano has been really shining through and is fantastic to see
I still have SOOOOOOOO long to go, but this is awesome to hear from your perspective
@@RickyTinez That's the thing about an infinitely long road; It doesn't matter how far you travel down it, it's still infinitely long in front of you
Couldn't agree more. RT - it sounds great. You also don't need to shred to be musical. Listen to Norah Jones play piano.

This is the reason why we as home producers enjoy making music. Let all your frustratings flow out and chill with the vibe! Nice track Ricky....
I bought an octatrack because of you. Definitely the best thing I've done in my life, this thing rocks, and I’m still learning from you. Keep the good sound vibing ❤
the god of workflow
PLEASE make this a track!!! I would listen to this every day!
Seconded. This is niiiiiiice.
This is what it's all about @ricky! Just kickin it making tracks every week. Beautiful!
This is amazing! Definitely relate to this process & style a lot more - Works so well for the chillout/downtempo stuff I do! (I NEED AN OCTATRACK EVENTUALLY!) Thanks for such a great video!
Legit, always some of the most interesting videos to watch; the dawless setup always seems appealing not having to look at the screen

That piano + 6/9 immediately reminded me of Ananda Project "Kiss Kiss Kiss". Good stuff.

The Octotrack scares the crap out of me.
You are such an inspiration to all of us aspiring music producers... peace and love from Rotterdam! ✌
Man I love your content. Doesn't matter what gear, what topic, you always create great music and inspiring content. Thank you.
Absolutely wicked, bro. Getting better and better… what a vibe.
14:40 shaker stank face got me :)

Dang! That's one of your best ones yet. Such a sweet groove!! I wish you'd make that into a complete track someday. 👍👍👍👍 Best wishes!!
As one Octatrack live performing fiend to another, that was brilliant to watch. Great flow, better vibe, well done.

You've been on a roll, dude. Smooth as hell and you've been killing it on keys so far.
Dude you are killing it!
"hair messed up" pshhh...Ricky please. We all see you with the glow up. Looking good, sounding good brotha. Happy Saturday.
Mic drop. That was ace!
Hell yeah. I'm here for this.
MiniDexed for 8 tracks of that DX7 goodness and a Zoom effects pedal. Toss in your Octo and we be out rockin' in the woods, on the boat, you name it.
Great video as always Ricky! Those drums are tight! Nothing else to say but one time! 😎
love this so much. my dream setup is a mini-me of yours: digitakt 2, db-01, and op-1 field
smokin' ! been following u for a long time! learned tons! thank you so much, Ricky!
Ricky T, killin' it on the keys! Another dope track, man!
those chords are beautiful, i need to take some time to make something with 6/9ths
also that "one time" vocal reminds of Astral Phase by Omni Trio for some reason. vibes i guess
great stuff
I so much enjoyed this video! You’re a cool guy Ricky! 😁🔥
Absolutely love the groove in this video. Where can I hear it?!
We appreciate you, Ricky.
My favorite dude on YT!
Awesome!! what mic is it that he use?
Nice, cup of coffee and a bit of Ricky jams to start my morning with!
you know these machines too well, great jams man
That open hat on the three is killer
Ricky please, make this jam longer!
Dude! This jam is awesome. My kind of groove. You should share or release it. ❤, you beautiful human!

what mic is that you record the shakers with?
Impressive! 🙌🏼🔥🔥🔥
Please make this a full song and publish. Thank you 🙏
Good stuff. For a non-Octatrack user the Octatrack use always seems so complicated. 😅
Benn Johnson and Tinez collaborate. The Universe resets, we suffer but the greater good is achieved.
And we don't need 'capitol records'.
Ricky where is the finished track, it's an absolute banger!!!! I need it in my life :(
hey boss whats that teal mic you recorded shakers with?
keep up the good work! Always appreciate the weekend vid :D
I don’t know the specifics of his signal chain, but this reminds me a lot of JonWayne’s studio process, keys and all piped into the octatrack
Nice keyboard/theory chops!
love the vibe of the track. great hair too :D
Fire track. Really sweet e piano sound - god I want an Electro 6 😬
Those stanky shakers at the end!! fantastic!..Does anyone know what that mic was that he used?
Love this one, well done!
I wanted to ask you what recording device you used to record the shakers, can you use Zoom also?

Exxxxcellent track ✨✨
this year I'm gonna learn my OT for sure ;)
Awesome vid as always Ricky :) What's that little mic your using, and do you recommend it?
This might be the sickest thing I’ve ever heard from u
Yo thanks Luke!
Why not use flex tracks and buffer s?
GREAT VIBES HERE!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Starting with a minor 6/9 chord?! Did the algo confuse my music production and music theory feeds?! Or have you just been spending too much time with @mattwildemusic? 😁 Great video as always Ricky!
I love this track!
is playhead random lock with a sliced audio also possible on a modern mpc? very cool feature
The muscle memory is crazy.
Sweet vid. Is that microphone going directly into the octatrack????
I don't even know why I keep watching these videos. I understand nothing. Maybe I exaggerate, maybe I do get it a little bit. But mostly I'm just in it for the ride. lol
I have to know what microphone that is
Will you be putting your recent stuff on Spotify? Id listen to it :)
Don’t have time to watch this but I already know we got some danceable stuff
i quickly learned on YT simply does not mean cheap. the octatrack is wayyyy to expensive for me but is practically in any simple setup. you guys get these send for basically free. we dont get that kinda stuff.
One time - from the Fugees
Yo ! The ending with the Shaker…… Funky !
What kind of mic is that?
this was so good.
I want the octatrack SO BAD but I m afraid because they might release a new one. I mean they JUST released the Digitakt 2 like BAM !!!💥
If they make it more intuative it would sell buckets, that's why a New One is coming.
get it ricky!
can you do some budget dawless setups for us porpers? 😅
God, the OT looks soooo complex compared to the Digitakt.
Little dawless set up 5grand Bang
BeaUUUUtiful, octa-LOVE
One time 💯
Solid track good sir!
If you had a $1k limit for a Dawless jam setup , what you gonna choose?
Digitakt2. Exactly 1K. ;)
or maybe not. !! I might get an OG Digitakt on Reverb for $300. Then maybe a used Boog and a used TD-3.
Two SP-404 mk2's = $1K.
I'm just shooting from the hip, here. Coming up with $1K setups. These all speak to me, but the most important thing is what speaks to you?
sick!
Thumbnail had me thinking Ricky got arrested
haha! Mugsynth
One Time!
OK I'm return to Ableton ... ^^
One Time
Ur hair looks fine 😉
The words "simple" and "octatrack" are not compatible 😆
Rickey is hot without glasses. Gyaatt
(( BUMPIN ) )))))) ❤.
You are really bent on that F minor over B lol
