    We review the Netgear Nighthawk M2 (MR2100) Mobile Router, and test it in our Motorhome to provide mobile internet. We look at the features, connections, mobile and web app controls. I used it to upload three videos whilst we were away and connected it to our Sky HD box for streaming movies and catch up.
    We do Motorhome Reviews, Motorhome Days Out, Help, Hints and Tips on Motorhomes, Motorhome Tours in the UK and Europe, we visit Motorhome Shows, and spend over a third of our year living in a motorhome. In fact all things motorhome!

    I aim to release a video each week, every Friday at 18:00, as a minimum, when we are at home. When we are away on a trip or at a show I aim to do a daily video, but this will vary depending if I have a signal.

    The Vodafone SIM I am using is "Unlimited Max" and is £30 a month. It is a phone sim, rather than a data sim, but that's what they sent me when I asked for unlimited data.

I know your interests are probably more motorhome related, but I really think you could have a full time job reviewing virtually anything, its just the way you go about it and the overall delivery honest and straight forward 10/10

    for anyone watching this and may be put from buying it because it only has 1 ethernet connection (wired connection) you can simply buy a 4 port net work switch for around £10, which you would plug into the single ethernet port on this router, which would then give you 4 ethernet ports on the network switch, so you end up with 4 ports instead of one.

    Nice gadget at a cost. My phone has plenty of data and as a hotspot it allows a wi-fi TV to connect to it (or a google cast). Just for camping etc I am thus done like that (dual sim phones exist too). Thought I would mention as another route to go. If I needed a constant gateway / server for 20 devices I see this one but for say 5 constant users a MiFi (even on a pole in the awning if reception were bad) is dirt cheap......One phone is fine as it stands though. Nice review of options out there though.............Lastly (Vodafone site looks down for quick maintenance s of now) but worth checking if that unlimited data applies to tethering / also if a max on users sim card wise.

    Thanks for the informative video - can it be charged from a usb socket rather than the 220v adapter? It's expensive though as for the same money you can get a full diy kit with external aerial from motorhome.wifi - not sure if this has the network plug connector though.

    Good review on this mobile broadband router, the price is off putting though, if it was £200 max i would consider it. The reception and speed will be all dependent on the actual signal from each mobile company. In major cities i imagine you would get the top speeds but in remote locations not so good. Im with BT broadband and I have BT plus which gives me a BT mobile broadband modem and chip with unlimited data when my broadband goes down supplied by BT inclusive of my BT package. I think this is a better device but by £300+ i don’t know.

I wanted to ask you this. I would like to connect my mobile phone to the "wifi" available on the Netgear Router, but I don't see the "Netgear" option listed under the "wifi available networks" on my mobile phone when I press "settings". Could you advise me, please?... Is there a special button that I should click on to allow my mobile phone to access the internet of the Netgear Router? Many thanks indeed, and sorry but I am not very technically minded! Ana.

      No, but you need to check in the settings of the Netgear, what the WiFi is called,. When you set it up it asks to give the WiFi network a name, that's the name you search for to connect your phone to. Mine is called Bobnetgear for example. It should tell you what the network name is and the password on the router screen.

    I have the new virgin oompah tv package which comes with an unlimited sim will this go in the netgear
    Also I see you have Sky in your motor home do you pay extra on top of your home Sky package?

      We used to take our Sky Box away with us when we had a satellite system on the roof, since we changed motorhomes, we haven't bothered with a Satellite system and don't miss it. No I didn't pay extra to take our own sky box away. Shhh, don't tell sky!

      @@joeduffy9431 the Sky Box has to be activated, so you'll need a viewing card in it. I was using my home sky box, just taking it away with us. To answer your other question, yes your Virgin Sim should work in the Netgear router, I use a vodaphone sim for a phone.

    Way too expensive! We have an EE mini WiFi router which costs about £13 for 30GB. Very rarely don’t have a good signal. PS Merry Christmas lol (my wife spotted your cushion in the background).

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  4 роки тому

      Yes, but you have to remember what else this router can do.

    • @florence2712
      @florence2712 4 роки тому

      The EE Mini runs of mains or battery. Runs for 8 hours on battery. We have it plugged in to a socket so it charges when on hookup and auto switches to battery once we unhook so we constant WiFi. Have an app on my phone to show what data has been used and whose connected.

      Battery, 20 users, 2gbs download, USB tethering, port filtering and VPN Passthrough plus LAN connection are the main things you pay extra for.

    I take it you know the voda sim is capped when abroad? The device itself is just far too expensive, it needs to be at least 100 pounds cheaper. I have a roof mounted aerial in my Motorhome and considered the device but it’s just a ridiculous amount of money.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  4 роки тому

      Yes it is capped at 25gb a month. Half my total allowance of the last sim. Think that will be enough. Also got 8gb roaming on our phones.

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  3 роки тому

      Sorry don't understand what you mean. There is the mobile Internet and the WiFi that the Netgear produces connects the TV, laptops and phones to the Mobile Internet via the Netgear M2.

      @@BobEarnshawMoHo Aha now i got it why there are two bands , we create one then two appear . but what is the difference bewteen the two and which one we must use? Or am i wrong in this too?

    • @BobEarnshawMoHo
      @BobEarnshawMoHo  3 роки тому

      I understand your question now. The Netgear M2 produces two WiFi signals (or bands) that you connect your phone, laptop or TV to, one is a 5GHz signal, which faster but has less range, the other is the more common 2.4Ghz signal.

      Hi, Nick forgot to say that Smarty (owned by 3) has an offer on for unlimited everything for 18.75 per month at the moment - if interested here is a link where you get a free month and a 10 amazon voucher and I get a free month referme.to/N6risNo. I'm using Smarty and it is exactly the same as three in speed etc - just uses online support no phone
