ESO | Destruction staves BALANCED at last?

- The lightning staff and Flame Staff passives have changed AGAIN for the 7millionth time in the last 6 years in The Elder Scrolls online. Is it bad? is it good?
Technically this was the question i was asking LAST time, however this time, they may have just manage to find the BALANCE for combat between the two staves, literally making it about PREFERENCE rather than BEST and pigeon holing niche playstyles!
Remember this is on PTS (public test server) so anything could change at any moment!

Ngl, i like it from an identity standpoint.
Dragonknights have always been about burning enemies to ash with DoTs, and now the flame staff matches that playstyle.
Sorcerer is all about bursty single target shock spells, and the lightning staff supports it
I agree
Sorry but the Lightning Staff Tri-Focus nerf was the last straw for me. I'm tired of spending time, resources and money having to alter a new build every stinking patch. I'm just exhausted with it all.
Then dont play mmorpgs lol. Thats how the games works.
@@Rachebart Most don't change basic mechanics every other month. Change yes. Constant change, for no reason constantly? I've been playing MMORPG's since they began and I've never seen a game ... except Star Wars Galaxys when the introduced the NGE ... that changes the basic stuff so much and so often.
The point of updating and changing the game is so you DONT sit on one build
@@Pacificfire33 Nonsense. I keep up with this game and have for years and not once has a any dev started they don't want people sitting on a single build forever. If you have a Dev post that says this show me. I will concede to being wrong.
Also, the changes don't bother me as much as the constant changes month after month after month after month. The churn is real and It's getting old fast. At least let us play for a little while before they turn the apple cart over.
@@synitarthrax5618just don't meta chase, I have characters that haven't changed their build for years since Blackwood and they are still strong enough for vet trials and solo vet arenas because they don't chase the meta for an extra 5 percent damage, personally as much as I hate to say it because I liked oakensoul heavy attack builds they did need a nerf because simply put they made clearing any and all content a cake walk worse than any build I've ever seen even as a day one player, and I think this was the right way to do. It, keep enough damage behind the builds that the ring can fill its purpose of helping people who can't do trials rotation a chance to play in them since a large portion of esos player base are older and not able to do rotation as well, but at the same time they killed the massive AOE crowd wipe you could do with heavy attacks, while also not completely removing it just making it extremely weak, and all while giving us the option to make many new build directions with new passives, I'd say they did a great job given the massive task before them, also not every moment comes out with several game changing things each year like them that they NEED to rebalance for, so there is that to consider too
Once more, ZOS showing how the PTS takes ideas, refines them, and gives the optimal balance before release. Good on them for making the right changes.
What? This game is how many years old and they still haven't managed to balance it. They have no clue.
@@angelicalynn1259 This game has more viable sets than the entire database of most mmorpgs. Maybe, too many set combinations. Gamers have no clue.
except for the fact that the majority of people on the forum are bad at the game and represent a small minority of the player base
good work
@@angelicalynn1259you can’t balance games like this you just have to make sure some things aren’t OP and other aren’t completely underwhelming. Balance is a myth in any game, if you can show me an actual balanced game I’d be surprised
Only problem I see in the future is after this change they'll just nerf the both of them into the ground. I've been playing since ear one and it always happens. They give you power just to take it away
I wish the fire staff would fire like the lightning staff. Like the stream lighting and stream of fire
THIS !!!!!!!! They should lt us choose between
Omg, a change that simply feels right? Gotta sit and enjoy this for a bit! Gonna be interesting to see how the rest of this PTS cycles pans out.
I like these changes actually
Same, sad to see the overwhelming hate for them
10 off oakensoul, lightning dd increase on dd maybe 10 back but feels like a sneaky 1bar nerf with aoe tic off
For Templar, I'm feeling rather excited by lightning staff front bar & maelstrom two-hander backbar to boost jabs damage.
"Merciless Charge: This set now increases your damage done with direct damage attacks by 9.3% of your Weapon or Spell Damage, up to a maximum of 560, rather than increasing your damage done with all Two Handed attacks by 11.16% of your Weapon or Spell Damage with no maximum."
So, I take it, that's up to 560 for each hit of jabs. Also, I'm really loving the visual of lightning staff frontbar on Templar. You can select a motif that makes the staff appear to be spear-like, and it is very easy to see when a lightning staff light attack goes off which is beneficial, I think, especially on console. Elemental Susceptbility is a great solo skill that's resource-agnostic.
9.3 kills me...why can't it be a flat 10% 🙈
Interesting changes. I wonder if within Destruction Staves and their elements if the game would enjoy Scepters, Tomes, and Quarterstaves/elemental sword and rune.
Martial/Ranged has Dual wield, 2H, Bow, S&B but within those categories are a single bow and shield type, maces, mauls, swords, greatswords, daggers, axes, and great axes with their own perks without adding whole skill lines for them. Would the game be better, worse, or even if magic followed the same path?
They are already COMPLETELY FINE.
Fire staff single target
Lightning staff AOE
Ice staff Tanking.
Why not just ADD a new staff that does the channelling and Dot damage increase like a Magic Staff since that is a type of damage different from the rest.....?
Nobody asking for this change usual from these devs.
I like the changes and now ill be asking for them
I feel like you just want a reason to be angry lol
because dual wield do more damage anyway? and propably it is time to change this madness
Other MMOs don't request you to re-grind everything everytime you want to switch to a new class, they just want to force people to buy the time saving bundle in the store, make everything account wise they can change things whatever they want
@@DrGGPyou don't need to regrind anything though if anything you need to regrind less than other MMOs......... Other MMOs are full class locked gear you not only can use all gear on all classes in eso but also with the transmutation system everything you get can be used one day on any character I'm so tired of this argument that eso is somehow more grindy, it definitely has a grind yes, but I would hardly call it a harder grind at all at best I would call it different, but honestly the game is so easy you can fully make a new build in half a day if you just play the game enough to have a decent filled sticker book, and no I'm not saying most filled or half filled, just filled enough from your passive play time playing the game that you don't need to grind a whole set to get exactly what you want, which is the majority of players with how old this game is and how few sets are given out each year
Hello, thank you for the German subtitles!
While increasing dot DPS is nice I think most choose lighting staff because the only things alive long enough to benefit from full DOT dmg is bosses. Most other mobs are dead before the 20 sec time frame. I would like to see if he makes any changes to his toxic duel wield build or his mag dragon flame build.
In PvP it could go either way and definitely gives mag builds a different front bar choice vs always running dual wield.
For my mag dk when I go into pug trials I am thinking inferno not lightning due to fights lasting maybe 5min or more! Giving more damage overall but for short burst I would think lightning for sure especially Templar or archivist!
@@Nartsvin pvp you can cleanse dots so the channel buff is still better
Thanks for the informations. Great video!
Hate how ice staff is just for tanks!
I want an ice warden but hate the ice staff passive.
wardens already get 10% dmg increase with ice staffs they are already the best option for them
You can use them to proc brittle which helps up your damage so for solo builds they can be good as a back bar too, though it's all up for debate on what's best they are still more than usable
They need to change hawk eye
DOT-focused Fire backbar for sure... lightning vs fire front is gonna depend on class.
A nightblade would probably be better off with lightning, because front bar is usually stab (direct), bow proc (direct), execute (direct) as the bulk of their frontbar time.
A warden probably lightning (if they're not doing an ice build)
Sorc... probably either would be about equal
Templar and arcanist you already explained why they're mostly equal.
Dragonknight... probably fire, given the number of DOTs a DK frontbar usually has.
Necro... probably lightning, since I assume blastbones is direct damage
Sure blast bone spam but necro has a DOT increase as it’s passive, mix that with Deadly Strike and Fire Stave DOT damage increase.
Blastbones is AOE
@@phillipclark687AOE direct damage
we can use lightning on frontbar for nightblade, where we have a lot of direct damage skills, and fire staff on bb, where we keep dot's.. I think this is a pretty good changes, especially if it helps to get out from dual wield wep metah
@@infereon5385why would a nb use a frikkin staff, lord help us
I like the reason they gave for the changes
Kind of awesome. I always end up slotting inferno staves for DPS, but I really love the feel, animations and all from the lightning staves. So now I can slot the one I actually like playing.
I'm actually really liking these destruction staff changes.
AFAIK puncturing sweep is not channel, just direct AoE (taumaturg and deadly do not work on it)
Good info. Thx!
Will this make your dk pyro build better?
Finally it feels like PTS is actually being used for testing and feedback.
I'm glad that we're seeing positive changes for a while.
Arcanist beam with ligthing staff and deadly strike goes Brrrrrrrrrr
They saw the massive to templars and said "lol no".
I like these changes. Templar is going to feel good again
make templars good again!
Y’all act like templars ain’t cracked rn, with deadly and velothi their Jesus beams can literally hit up to 150k+
@@blackhammer5414 never said they weren't cracked. with deadly and sunsphere, jesus beam absolutely MELTS. but with a lightning staff it shall melt M O R E!
All staves should affect multiple enemies. This is why lightning staff is superior imo. They could have the additional buffs as well but trifocals needs rework imo.
Seems my MagSorc's single target build is gonna hit a little harder.
So now dots will be cast on a backbar lightning staff for the initial hit and keep ticking while on the flame staff frontbar?
Are they trying to breath life into the necro by introducing another boost to dots?
Because jabs used to be classed as a dot as well, and should be reverted to a dot again. It's no different than fatecarver
Dumb passive on the lighting staff . Nothing but arc, tem and sorc can even get use out of that passive buff
I get to take my templar out of mothballs!
So, lightning on back bar for the direct damage from the dot, then swap to fire on front for the dot.
But you can still run with 2 lightning though right
These changes pretty cool more build variety is always a good thing especially when the game feels like it's dying lol maybe more people will come back who knows
Do you really think for one moment this will bring people back? I mean who comes back because passives on a staff are changed. Shoot more will leave with these changes as it is a pretty big nerf for Oakensoul HA builds. Many with physical limitations will be right back to screwed again.
@@angelicalynn1259only the lazy trash players will leave because of an oakensoul HA nerf and honestly good riddance to them. This mmo still has way too many longstanding players compared to other MMO to be considered dying.
@@phillipclark687fr
@@phillipclark687 This game has to much reasons not to leave lol. One thing i think is one of the best things in the game is the farming system.
@@LostHorizons0 get good
These are fantastic changes

W for ZOS in my opinion
nice changes
