NOTE: I used this thread tap holder with a stubby ratchet drive bar several times recently on some metal gates I am fabricating and it worked awesomely. Realy really good. The quality of this brand is excellent. Totally recommended. Cheers Rob
I have a snap on set of these that i use all the time. One of the most borrowed tools out my toolbox at work. Ive never seen them outside the snap on van, and now ill be getting a set for home as well! Cheers Rob
I also did not know this set existed. I have ordered the Irwin set from Amazon. In the US only $25. A very good idea and so useful to have in the toolbox for tight space situations. Thanks, Dave.
I remember a few years ago in a specialist tool shop in Geelong they had a set of 3 or 4 1/4 in sockets that had a square internal instead of a hexagon. They were American made.Perfect to do the hard to reach spots. Never bought them and regret it every time that type of job needs doing.
Sure do. I could have used one the other day. Lucky I could knock up something to get the job done. I was surprised that none of the tool shops in Adelaide appear to have them.
My local trade supply shop ( open the public ) sold me this 1/4in tap driver , it had 2 different size chucks small & large , a short 1/4in extension and a "T" handle ratchet handle that went clockwise, anticlockwise or locked in place , has proven excellent gear , it is made by a company called "BORDO"
Hi Rob. Not seen those before. A very useful tool for certain applications. The Irwin ones are about £25 over here in the UK which is not bad at all. Temu do a cheap version for £10.84! Cheers, Alan.
Hi Alan. Same here. I hadn't seen them before. Quite a logical variation of the single handed one I showed. Definitely has some potential for awkward jobs. Worth having in the toolbox. Cheers Rob
They look handy, I don't have an adjustable set just a old set of tap sockets on a spring clip bar similar the BGS 9771. Google tells me Laser also make a similar set 6058
I got the iwiren brand on Amazon for 28 bucks, winky's work shop has a video on his channel making a tool it's alsome, made me one work's on the milling machine great.
Like you, I've found that most 8 point Sockets will comfortably (& accurately) accept most smaller taps. 'Long Reach' 8 pointers, as a bonus, can be held in a Tailstock mounted Chuck for Lathe use.
Thanks, Rob, for showing those adapters as I wasn't aware of their existence, and on reflection, makes sense someone designed them. I found several variations listed on the usual online retail sites, and settled for one costing AU$17.20 shipped from central Vic. It uses a standard 3/8 inch drive (internal) or a 19MM ring/flat spanner if you use the external faces. If you do a search for "Tap Holding Chuck Clamping Tap Chuck 3/8 Adapter Tap Adjustable Durable" you should find them in abundance.
That's a good search phrase Laz. Plenty of hits came up and lots to choose from. I like the ProKit PKTool version. I'm a bit wary of the Elcheapo stuff from Amazon etc, as there is a bottom line, but can't comment on their quality. Suck it and see time ;) Cheers Rob

The Irwin set is about $25 here in the states, so I think I'll pick up a set to try. Thanks for the tip on these Rob!
Tom
Worth the money. First time I've seen them as well. Cheers Rob

Thanks Rob, I learn something new everyday. The quality looks quite good for Chinesium.
We are always learning. Keeps life interesting. The quality is excellent. China can make stuff as good as you want to pay ;) Cheers Rob
What a brilliant idea. Well done. Thanks.
It sure is. I used one the other day for an awkward job with a stubby ratchet drive. Worked awesome. Cheers Rob

I will check it out.
It would be nice to have a ratchet with a center hole on the back to align with the axis of the lathe
Yes, good point.
I have been using 8 point sockets to tap with where a regular tap wrench wont work

What No. is that P&N tap wrench Rob? I'm after one that size.
No number on it. Marked as 3/8" P&N. Good size as it takes most small taps, including the really small 2 and 3 mm ones. Cheers Rob
