Any window and glass shop. Just bring your precise measurements into the shop and theyll cut it for you. @@JonnyDIY Thank you!! I am going to see if Lowe's will cut their panes of replacement glass to the size I need. I appreciate your video it was very clear and helpful! :)
Good video! But I have a question. You take a 1/4" off the measurement so there's an 1/8" gap all the way around but then it looks like you put the window in so it's actually resting on the bottom of the pane. Wouldn't that mean now there's no gap at the bottom and 1/4" gap at the top? Is that OK?
It's ok still. It's just to allow space for expansion and contraction with the changing of the seasons 👍 it should still be able to move with the flexible sealant. You just don't want the glass to be a perfect fit or it'll break when expands
With dual pane you need to buy a new panel from a window shop because theres gas in between the layers. That or cut/pull the broken pane and you'd have just single pane for that 1 window
It can be done in Winter, just make sure you check the label on the type of caulking sealant or glazing compound for the temperature youre supposed to apply. So youd want to do it in the warmest part of day. And a tip is make sure you keep it stored inside somewhere warm before applying.
Local glass and mirror shop best, just bring dimensions. Home depot does sell and cut glass but usually just small sizes so you'll have to double check if it's within your parameter 👍
Window and glass shops will usually give them to you free when you buy a new piece of glass, just ask if they forget. And if you already have glass you can get them at Home Depot or Lowes or any Hardware store. Ask for Window Glazing Points
Take pictures and measurements of window and go to your local window and glass shop. Theyll be able to order you a new one the size you need. If its the removable sash part you can remove and take in to them
Do I need both sides of a double pane window? Because I broke the I side layer and i am trying to take out the whole inside layer so my parents don’t see

The points are underneath the glazing. Once you chip and remove it youll see them. You just push the points into the wood flush against the glass. Not too tight against though. Dont want to crack or chip glass 😀👍
Sorry for confusion I was saying 75 as in 0.75 or 3/4. So you want to measure the opening of the window and subtract 1/4 inch or 0.25 from each side. So if the opening is 30in x 20 in, get the glass cut size 29.75 x 19.75 inches. Good luck, hope this made sense
Thanks i put in the glass my self for the first time and my dad helped. All went well but my dad crack the glass a little putting in thos little metal clips to hold the glass in. He cracked it putting in the clip on the right side of window frame. It was our last clip to and it would have been done with no cracks if it wasnt for the last mistake. Lol i felt like a pro until we cracked it at the end of our job lol. Next time if i ever do it again im do it with out the clips just use the sealant. Thanks for vid and Reply.
Ohh mann, sorry to hear about the crack, hopefully it wasnt a big crack. Yes sealant alone will hold it in, but always good idea to use points. Just got to push them in carefully
For metal frames you have to take them apart usually if its built in parts. Some old ones just have window glazing putty you have to remove like this video
For the iron window, once i have the replacemet, i fill the frame with glazing putty, insert the window, insert the points, then apply the sealant...and let it dry, correct?? Thank you for your channel!
@@peterandrews5924 you're welcome. If its metal window style with glazing putty. You remove and clean, install new glass, insert points, I think metal frame used triangle points, then glaze over ouside edges. Glazing takes long time dry before painting 👍

Hey I have a rather dumb question but this is a real question. My home window broke and the contractor is claiming the same amount of money to replace annealed glass as tempered glass even though tempered glass is twice as expensive as annealed glass. He claims this is because annealed glass tends to break during installation and therefore costs more (in labor) to install even though the glass itself is so much cheaper. I am not that handy so can you help me please ? Is he BS-ing or telling the truth ? Is there any reason why it would cost just as much to install annealed glass as tempered glass ? Please help !!!
No problem. Tempered glass should be more expenisive of a job than regular "annealed" glass. Get another quote from a window and glass shop to compare prices. He may just have a set fee he charges for either or to cover his expenses like he says. It is very easy to break a non tempered sheet of glass upon installation. But another quote will solve the problem, his price may be close
Jonny DIY thank you so much ! This is where the plot thickens. I am getting the materials from him and he was supposed to do an installation as well. I am a renter in an apartment that is owned by a corporate landlord and this guy is their "preferred contractor". They (leasing agent) are giving me a really hard time about comparison shopping. Should I just ask him why he's charging yue same fee even though annealed glass is $3 per square ft as opposed to tempered glass as $6 per square ft ? Also this is California so maybe things are "strange" here lol Any advise for me ?
Im here in CA too so Im familiar with all the craziness haha...Hmm well if youre having to pay to fix the rental window Im assuming it was your fault for the damage. I would still call and get a quote (just give them window opening measurement) from another reputable window place & if it differs by a lot you've got a case to hire them. It may end up being very close in price. A smaller piece of glass like the window I replaced in this video cost around $20 so even at double it would only be $40. But I know sometimes its harder & costs a bit to get small jobs like this done (especially in big cities) unless a handyman type does it, just because of the time coming out and doing it. So I would just follow through on another quote & give yourself some peace of mind, so you don't feel like you're getting ripped off.
About $20 bucks I recall. You can call glass shops with your dimensions to get a price. Should all be somewhat similar but sometimes save a lot calling around

Just got to push them in carefully
place a business card behind the metal tab before inserting it
that was soooooo easy thankyou, awesome job!!!!

How can this be done with an iron window?
For metal frames you have to take them apart usually if its built in parts. Some old ones just have window glazing putty you have to remove like this video
@@JonnyDIY thank you!
@@JonnyDIY thank you. Ill report back how it goes :)
Where can I buy the glass?
Just search your area for glass shop or glass and window shop. Theyll cut you a new piece
Another informative vid! 👍🏼 Well done.
Thanks for watching :)
thank you so much mane!!! Exactly what I needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're very welcome, happy I could help you out 👍
Do the points just slide in tight in the gap with the glass?
Seems pretty easy after seeing this thank you For this

I’m having difficult time finding the measurements of the glass can anyone help me
Try and measure it like I did in the beginning of the video
So I have to measure the window where it’s broken?
Yes the total opening of the window. Then subtract an 1/8 inch from each sides measurements

@@JonnyDIY You're welcome. I like it, that you make it simple. You get to fixing the window without alot of talking. I was seeing another video about fixing a broken window and he was talking too much. And I stopped watching it. 😃
Thank you!!! Really appreciate the video

Also this is California so maybe things are "strange" here lol
Any advise for me ?
What about the sealant behind the window , you forgot?
Nope, none needed unlike a car windshield. You just put the glass in then the glazing points then the glazing/sealant
Thank you I’m definitely doing my own window
You're welcome, happy to help 👍 Good luck
Thank you! My nephew broke a neighbors window 🪟 looks like the same one!
You're welcome glad to help! 👍
Soo how much was the glass
About $20 bucks I recall. You can call glass shops with your dimensions to get a price. Should all be somewhat similar but sometimes save a lot calling around
Thanks bid
Bud
My 1 yr old just broke mine so im avout to fix it this weekend

Nice job budd
Thank you 🙌👍
How much would it cost
