glad to hear you’re feeling better by way of your description! i’m also really feeling under the weather and all of my tests (for covid and strep) have come back negative so i’m stuck just treating my sore throat and other symptoms with over the counter things! and i feel like nothing is working! also thanks for being so personal, finances have always been a tough subject for me and i appreciate ur willingness to talk about it. u talking about it actually seemed to make me feel better rather than more anxious. as always, ur the best!!!

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you turn a corner soon-it’s maddening that you aren’t getting any answers re: what exactly you have, plus the usual remedies aren’t giving you much relief. That must be so uncomfortable. I’m so thankful that you’re testing negative for covid, though it sounds like your body is fighting something pretty nasty all the same.
In the meantime, I’m glad you found this video reassuring! Money is a tough subject for me, as well, so I figured I should confront the shame/unresolved feelings from growing up & speak honestly about it, for whatever it’s worth.
What I’m figuring out is that wanting to feel better about money is the first step-so in that sense, we’re both on our way! Not sure what your specific anxieties are, but I do know that you deserve every happiness in this life! So I’m cheering for you to achieve your goals, whatever they may be.

As a young adult it’s so hard to save money lol, but this video definitely inspired me to go for my financial goals hard and become more passionate in the work that I’m currently doing and what I will be doing in the future. I'm sure there's lots more from growing up/experiences that you have to share that will be interesting to listen to. I can relate to a lot of what you were mentioning about money. I think most of us have those moments where we realize that we want to start saving and taking care of our finances instead of just taking it day by day. Thank you for this super tingly video! This is so important. I also had the experience of going to a public school where i was considered “wealthy” but when i transitioned to the private school it often felt like I couldn’t keep up. I’m happy that those experiences gave me the self awareness i have now on wealth and privilege (also that it is such a privileged mindset to grow up not being primarily motivated by money).
Omg also matcha lattes are so expensive so i now make them at home. It has become such a relaxing ritual in the morning with the matcha whisk!! I usually have mine with oat milk. Sooo good.
I feel the same! I’m glad you can relate to that strange transition, thanks for sharing. At times I resented my family for putting me in that situation and wanted so badly to go back to public school, where I had felt more accepted & at ease. But I learned valuable lessons and was forced to give up this idea of ‘keeping up’ and tying my value in with money.
And, yes, matcha lattes are so expensive! 😫 I really need to cut back. I was making them at home for a while by shaking up some simple syrup, soy milk, & matcha powder-they were tasty, but I continued to crave the ones they make at Starbucks. I think they’re so delicious! Plus, I love the ritual of going out to grab them in the early hours of the day. At least I save some money with the mobile order points program! (That’s what I keep telling myself, lol.)

It was really really interesting to hear you talk about your financial mindset. I too carry the ‘but life is short’ mindset that (in my case) can lead me to behave impulsively with my finances in ways I’ll later regret but that holistically I’m like ‘yeah, totally worth it.’ I am currently trying to find a balance between being mindful with money and conscious of the short time I am on this Earth, and am not convinced those mindsets have to be mutually exclusive! Much love

At 23:23 you mention having a negative feeling associated with you not being money motivated. I understand after your explanation why you feel this way but I wanted to bring another perspective that ( warning isn’t the world view or the majority view but another view that could be considered) not being money oriented could also have root in being exhausted from always thinking of money and seeking that security. That maybe the goal is ti be financially stable for ones own gain but not overly. I am not sure if I explained that very well but I hope it brings you some semblance of comfort and eases the negative notion towards not being avarice// money hungry/// seeking money etc.

I agree so much with everything you’ve said-especially the part about being exhausted from always having to think about money. There’s a long term fatigue that comes from engaging with capitalism & ‘grind’ culture-at least, that’s my opinion/experience. And I imagine it only gets worse, the greater the necessity-so I count myself extra lucky to be relatively ‘OK.’

From my personal experience with money, I’ve found that the realization of not wanting the American dream gave me a huge sense of relief. I think I have become more focused on being happy rather than chasing money to make me happy. Although I do agree that this point of view is stemming from some kind of privilege of mine, my mom and I are very much in the working and or poor class. As a result my standing on this topic has two different angles but I came to this conclusion nonetheless. (I wanted to share this just to add context and also because of how open you were I wanted to do the same!)

I love how you’ve framed things and aspire to incorporate more of that kind of thinking-less emphasis on the American Dream (and the chase thereof), more on personal fulfillment & wellbeing in attainable ways.
