1- use good automotive primer, I use duplicolor. 2- light sand the primer 3- use whatever paint you want, I prefer regular rustoleum, its hella tough. 4- use 2k clear coat, not 2x! Eastwood and spraymax are good 2k's. This is since you love the cans so much...

I have commented on this twice in 2 separate videos. His little air cooled VW style oil slinger contraption isn't going to do a thing. He needs to find a way to install seals and pack it with grease. Its gonna fill up with sand, mud and all kinds of stuff, especially the first time he sinks the axle below water. All that work will be toast. He did and awesome job everywhere else, but his rear axles are full of fail.

Great builds and always good to watch, don’t always believe what you read on spray cans those one coat solutions don’t always work out. my advice is always use a good etch primer on bear metal it’s more steps but it lasts longer against rust and is far more durable in the long term and helps with a good finish. keep up the good work 👍

    • @BIGWIGGLE223
      @BIGWIGGLE223 5 років тому +1

I second this recommendation. Once you've used a true metal etching primer you'll never go back to the general purpose primer. Just be careful with that stuff on plastics. It'll turn it into a pile of steamy goo.

i use Krylon when i paint axles, and i found some stuff a few years ago thats almost as tough as a powder coat, its an enamel coating kind of paint, might be worth a shot on a future project, buggy looks sweet bro, this thing is a masterpiece and proof that a guy in his garage with a welder, some skill, and an idea of what he wants to do, can make something really cool and unique. keep on wrenchin' and god bless

Hi mate, that silver needs to be painted over a black acrylic base coat in order for it to adhere properly, it also needs a good quality clear coat in order for it to shine and really pop in the sunlight.
Also just a suggestion, if you’re going to build a buggy like this in the future with a bike engine it may be a good idea to make a removable engine subframe so that you can lower the engine out of the frame.
Aside from this you’ve done an awesome job again.

  • @GodschildinNC

Nice job!! It looks really good. I love that you build a rotisserie for painting it. If you get some pistol grips for the paint cans, and heat up the paint in hot water, it goes on smoother and uses less paint.

Well done that is the best buggy you have done , so far , I'm sure there will be many more . Your lathe work is so good it must save you a fortune on parts ,& yours would be much stronger . The time you spend on your projects , I don't think you could put a price on them , because they are hand built , for that reason no one would pay what they are truly worth . You may have to build a bigger trailer to put it on so you can carry more stuff with you . Mate it's brilliant , you should be so proud of yourself . Job well done ! Mal

  • @Jay-uh2jb

Great to see you finishing up the buggy. For paint....have you ever considered Rustoleum enamel in gallon cans. Combined with Valspar enamel hardener it shoots well, dries fairly quick and ends up as a tough coat. I shoot it from a purple HF gravity feed gun. Lots faster than doing all the little spray cans and usually ends up cheaper to boot.

I watched this when the videos were coming out, but I had one of the videos from the series pop up as a suggestion yesterday, so I rewatched them. Now that it's been a while and a half, I now had suggestions. Wheel alignment for sure, maybe an electric wench that drives a chain and sprocket that spins on the outside of what you already have connected to the drive shaft, on a free spot on the chain. And maybe some optional flip out/down mirrors. The reverse would just be on a push button that only works with the motor in neutral or requires the clutch to be fully pressed when you press the button. But that's all in the past now. Oh well. I just bought a UTV (kawaSAKI tERYX) for around $14k and after watching your video on this 1000cc buggy build, I think your finished buggy is better. But -- I've notice in watching this build plus several of your other ones, re-purposed parts from other machines to use on your builds are not nearly what is usually required. Parts such as brake calipers, axles, wheels, rims, gauges, etc. you usually opt to buy or have custom-made. Finally my question(s):
--how much money have you spent on this project?
--do you normally sell your finished buggies?
--what do you do for a living...interested because I don't have a lot a free money to spend?

Looks great! Very inspirational. Now the question is what's next after this. It won't be easy topping that machine. I have an idea for you. Make a torque monster. Same kind of frame with a 4 cylinder car engine......

All you need to finish that build is a nice five point harness to go off roading with.

Now ya gotta team up with Red beard when his buggy is done. I have a feeling that yours is going to run circles around his, cause for once you're not the one with the underpowered toy! Lol

You do realize reds is going to be supercharged and almost 80 hp? And not to mention quite a bit lighter than this buggy.

@@michiganvapemafia595 yup and I think its gonna be at its limits doing it and is barely gonna match what this one does. I also think his #s are waaay to optimistic. I stand by my original comment.

His numbers aren’t optimistic at all. I respect what you think however I disagree. Have you ever built a 670? I have and all motor with the cheapest stuff I could buy and minimal boring for a bigger forged piston I brake dynoed mine at 55hp. All motor no big money modifications just doing what I could do at home on a budget. That man has way higher quality parts going into that engine and on top of that a supercharger. That engine will be above and beyond what mine was. Also mine was on a rigid frame a little smaller than his and an underated torque converter and I could still pull 80mph out of mine. I think what red is building will be a bit more matched motor to size than this buggy here is. I love rbw builds the mans got skill but I still am unimpressed by the motor he put on such a piece of artwork as a damn near professional build.

Looks amazing but those tiny tires make it look like a monster truck on trailer tires. You need some 30-32" tires like the UTV guys.
