because they were stubborn and stupid. I remember assuring a gas station attendant in Easton ma that the Patriots were going to go to maximum protection and run and attack deep from it. They never did. instead they became the st. Louis Rams forcing the issue like a retard. constantly going to the 5 step drop allowing the GIANTS to go vertical off the edge and be highly effective in getting to Brady.
I blame Brady because I know he wanted to blow them out of the building. and so every time he dropped back he was trying to wind up for a haymaker. he got to where he was by dink and dunking. Not by being Donte Culpepper. Brady cost the team the superbowl cause he was stupid.
had they gone to maximum protection they would have been able to create an effective power running attack. or match play action with it to open up both the run and pass. and they would have been able to box the hell out of the GIANTS with this cause they hadn't done this before. it was all 5 wide 5 step drops. which exposed their dead tired offensive line that was gassed from the run and lucky to even be there because san Diego was too chicken sh*t to take it from NE in the championship game. the Patriots were so ripe for the picking all the GIANTS had to do was get in the ring and duck to the side and push the Patriots down.
That season the Patriots had endured a gauntlet starting the week they played the Cleveland browns, teams started throwing everything at them including the kitchen sink I've never seen a team take such heavy bombardment on a consistent basis and continue standing. But by the championship game it was obvious they had so much battle damage. the experience made them tough to take no doubt but they were slower by the time they reached the Superbowl. like; old man slow.

Man watching this video brings back all the memories of my childhood. I was 5 when Vinatieri hit that first kick and i was a senior in college when we beat the Rams in SB53. I remember everything, being woken up by my dad in the middle of the night to see that first SB win, being in the stands for that Buffalo wildcard beatdown, the "are you kidding me? AGAIN?" with the Kearse catch in 49, 28-3, Randy freaking Moss, the double-pass in the 2014 afc championship game against baltimore when i was crowded up in the dining all around one of those old 15 inch crt tvs in the corner, even Dan Connoly's kickoff return against the packers. Id just come back from football practice. It was a wild ride

I may have spent my entire life rooting against Brady, Belichick, and the Patriots, but honestly watching them collapse has been bittersweet. One of the things that makes sports fun to watch is having someone to root against, and watching such a historic, powerful dynasty die so unceremoniously has been kinda sad, and for Pats fans I have no doubt that despite all the success it still really sucks to see your team collapse so dramatically. I always rooted against them, but despite that I still respected them and the insane empire they built, and I hope they can still see a little success in the post Brady-Belichick era sometime.
You must not be a a fan of another AFC east team. I’m a Jets fan, and believe me, it’s sweet to finally see them lose. They held all of us down for two decades.

The patriots superbowl comeback against Atlanta was truly amazing, and special. Crazy to think the NBA finals where the Cavs came back 3 games to 1 against the Warriors was about a year or so apart.

One team in the past did appear in a comparable number of AFC Championship games to the Patriots 8 out of 9. From 1967-1977 the Oakland Raiders appeared in 9 out of 11 AFC/AFL Championship games, and it would have been 10 out of 11 if not for the Immaculate Reception loss against the Steelers in the 1972 playoffs (probably the biggest fluke-play ending ever to a playoff game).

You don't need a video to know the dynasty fell for the same reason every great empire falls, players get old, and the cheaters move on without those two things it may have lasted longer.
Its the inevitable fate of all sports dynasties to come crashing to a devastating end. Its why theyre called “Dynasties”. They end up dying nasty deaths.
As a Patriots fan, Kraft should've fired Belichick after they lost to the Giants the first time. He is the worst coach to win the Super Bowl and he has no game plan.
The reality is all things end, but there are people who retired that broke the Patriots dynasty and it was not Tom.
After his first Ring, Tom gave new cars to all his linemen, because he understood without them protecting him, he could not do his job. All the success Tom has had was because his font line allowed him the time to do his job.
But this thought leaves out one major player who never took the field. Dante Sacrnechia, one of the Greatest Front Line Coaches in NFL history!
When Scar retired the first time the Front line had problems. Scar unretired and came back and soon the line was working again.
Since Tom has been elevated, by the idiots, to the God of New England's success, it seems that coaching has nothing to do with football anymore. The players do it all, but nothing could be farther from the truth.
Scar is why Tom had that time in the pocket, but he doesn't get credit for Tom's success.
The fact is if the line never protected Tom he would never have scored a touchdown or won a game. The Front line is 100% responsible for Tom's success as a QB. They are responsible for the success of every QB, and the front line is successful because of the front-line Coach who taught them how to do their jobs and work together.
The other Retirie is Earnie Adams, the head of Scouting for the Patriots. Both these guys, Scar and Earnie, are old friends of Bill. Bill brought them into the Patriots organization and the three of them created New England's success.
The Scouting Department's job is to prepare the team for the next team they play. To report on their strengths and weaknesses. To break down their playbook and peculiarities so that the team can have some idea of what to expect on Sunday, and so allow the HC to develop a scheme to defeat that team.
The fact is, 30% of NE's success was due to Earnie's scouting reports alone. He prepared the team. The most obvious example is in the Super Bowls against the Seahawks, and the Falcons.
The team had been practicing to stop the slant pass play that the Seahawks used with seconds left on the clock at the end of Super Bowl 49. Hightower had just stopped Marshawn Lynch at the 1-yard line.
There was enough time to either run the ball once, or run a pass play, which would stop the clock if not caught, and then run the ball. They went with the latter, BUT they made the mistake of running a play they had run 7 times from inside the 2-yard line and had scored 7 times with it. Erneie saw it and drew up a counter to it. When the Seahawks linked up in that formation the Defense saw it and was ready, Malcom Butler intercepted the ball and ended the game.
In Super Bowl 51 Ernei would again be the turning point. With the score 25-3, the Defense stopped a 1st down run with negative yards on the play. Then they made their mistake.
Earnie had noticed that Freeman had a poor time dealing with pressure from the outside in that formation, so when they lined up they sent Hightower wide left and ordered him to blitz the QB.
Just as Earnie knew he would, Hightower ran right past him unopposed, he hit the QB and stripped the ball from his hands giving NE the ball at the 32-yard line. Two plays later NE scored their first TD of the game and began a historic comeback, but it needed one more brilliant play by Earnie to make it happen.
4th quarter, 28 to 20. Ryan is forced out of the pocket and throws a running pass to Julio Jones who makes a great reception taking the Falcons to NE's 22-yard line and 4 more downs, 4:40 seconds left on the Play clock. A field goal will put the game out of reach of the Patriots.
All the Falcons have to do is run it three times keep the ball in the center of the field and kick a short-yardage field goal to win their first Super Bowl.
First down, they run to the left and lose 1 yard.
Second down, they run a pass play, but NE is showing a stacked backfield, every man is covered hard. The QB is forced to hold the ball for too long and he is sacked by Tray Flowers at the 38-yard line, but they are still in field goal range.
Third down, now Ernie's preparation comes through again.
Earnie saw that the left tight end, Jake Mathews, has a history of holding on 3rd down when pressed. So NE orders Chris Long to blitz. Sure enough, Mathews, true to form, strangles Long and pushes his team out of field goal range, but they repeat 3rd down.
2nd Third down, is an incomplete pass, and they punt on Fourth down.
These two big plays in the Super Bowls are the most memorable times Earnie saved the ass of the Patriots, but he actually did it all season long.
Earnie is responsible for at least 30% of all the wins made by NE during the 20 years he was head of Scouting. He was the BEST at it no team was better prepared than NE thanks to Earnie.
Ty Law said that it was easy playing Defense for Bill. "Bill did all the preparation and told you what to expect, and he was always right." Yeah right, Bill did the Scouting...Earnie Adams did the scouting, and that made Bill's job easy he just passed on the knowledge Earnie gave him.
Bill's coaching style instilled a discipline that made NE the least penalized team in the NFL. It was said of NE that NE never beat itself. That was Bill's coaching.
Earnie Scouting made NE the best-prepared team in the NFL, while Scar's coaching of the Front line gave Tom the time to do his job.
When Scar and Earnie retired THAT is when NE started it downfall. Scar, Earnie, and Bill were a football triumvirate... They made NE great. Their work ethic instilled the players to work hard.
The offensive team in drawing up new playbooks to match each team's personnel every year was also a big part of the offense's success. They asked players to do what they did best. That is not how other teams work.
We saw in Tampa in year one, Tom and his HC were fighting, the HC wanted Tom to change how he played the game to fit what the HC liked to do. In the end, the HC was fired and Tom remained.
The Players still had to do their jobs and do them well and consistently. But great coaching and great scouting make it easier for them to do that job, allowing them to know what is coming to be better prepared for what will come during the game.
"Wars are won before they are fought."
Preparation and training make the difference in war and in sports. The better prepared and trained team will usually always win.
Well I think I have an idea on how it went down 1. People want to get paid 2. People get older 3. We weren't able to replace good Coaching when they left. So there you have it and it just goes to show you how Crazy of a run it truly was and will never be again
Incompetence is a strong word. There is a reason every other team drafts players who dont work out. It is impossible to know who will make it in the pros and who won't.

I would like to see an alternate timeline where the Seahawks did become the new dynasty with three in a row, but Brady eventually wins more titles with the 49ers, his childhood team. Jimmy G and Belichick ruin the Patriots into irrelevancy.
Brady’s last year as a patriot he absolutely had no weapons whatsoever. I mean his last loss as a patriot was a game at home versus the Titans and we only scored 13 points… if they’re Antonio Brown and Josh Gordon thing had worked out that year. And that game against the Chiefs where it was ruled that Nikhil Harry’s foot was out of bounds … if we win that game those playoffs also would’ve been different
A question for Pats fans. Besides the transition from a run heavy to a pass heavy offense, are the schemes used by Charlie Weiss and the coordinators from the 2nd dynasty vastly different? I don't mean philosophically, mean schematic differences because you can run the exact same scheme but one is run dominant and one is pass dominant. I don't follow them close enough to know and am curious. I know the say '05 defense compared to say their last super bowl winning defense were very different even though I'm sure both were designed by the hoodie himself.

Patriots picked Sony Michel one pick before Lamar Jackson. He could have sat for 2 years behind Brady and continued the dynasty instead he ended the dynasty Nov. 3rd 2019 SNF when Baltimore defeated the 8-0 Patriots. Patriots lost their confidence finished 4-5 and Brady was gone to Tampa.
Kind of poetic considering Baltimore and New England was imo the best rivalry in the NFL for 12 years. Classic battles.
Kraft was far more ruthless in buying the pats. He bought the land, and parking around the stadium and bled them to death.
How the dynasty fell? Simple the Dynasty was Brady. After he left, it was over. Kraft and Bellichick tried to act like they were a big part of it. They weren’t. They just got lucky with Brady.
