Kevin, You are awesome! If I am having a bad day, I just come home and start watching your videos. Instant upbeat. You also inspire me to listen to more music. My current system is horrible. So, I expect you will be receiving my next stimulus check, hahaha...
Big fan of Arcam here. I have the AVR300 and the CD33with Klipsch RF-7s,RC-7, RS-7s and the RS12sub biamping the mains for a 5.1 setup. Grew up in a house with Heresy, Lascala, Khorns and all McIntosh gear. I'm very happy with my sound. Great videos BTW!
Very similar to me! I have the AVR300 and the Klipsch RF7i's. Never once have I felt the need for a sub or a bigger amp - power, presence, and staggering bass.
If I was just getting started that would be my intergraded. I have an old CD player by Arcam CD63, it is bullet proof and is the best CD player I’ve ever owned. Others have come and gone, but this Arcam is not going anywhere. 😎
I also have an Arcam DV135 not-quite-universal player (no blu-ray, stereo only, but otherwise it will play just about anything on a chrome doughnut). After 8 years of steady use, the transport gave up the ghost (a Sanyo drive, as I recall) and I took it back to the brick-and-mortar dealer where I had purchased it. When it was ready, I took along an HDCD, a DVD-A, and an SACD from my stable of thoroughbred unicorns (as "The Audio Company That Must Not Be Named" likes to call them, okay, Schiit Audio).to make sure that the replacement transport would handle them all. The dealer kindly indulged an old customer and hooked it up to one of their demo systems (frankly better than what I have at home). It handled all three discs with aplomb and, even cold, the sound quality impressed the staff who had not heard this bit of kit in years (and these guys are used to listening to dCS gear now). It's a keeper.
@@thomasward00 the A11 has bluetooth that the SA10 does not. However, the SA10 has two digital inputs. You should also consider that the A11 is much cheaper. Why not go for the Rotel A14?
I have a sweet, little Arcam A65+ 40 Wpc integrated amp that cost $599 in 2006. It has proper one control, one function knobs and buttons (leave the nested menus to the smart phones). It is an all analog unit with a MM phono stage; no DAC or home theater pass through; but it does have a tape out/monitor loop and a preamp out available. And useful bass and treble tone control knobs! There are many these days who insist that any additional circuitry can only diminish the 'purity' of the signal and they are probably correct. However, there is no such thing as a perfect recording to begin with and I find that a little finessing can often improve the listening experience, especially in a less than optimal room. Tone controls give and tone controls take away, but from my personal experience I find that it is better to have and not need than to need and not have (as long as you don't get bogged down with too much stuff, travel light). And if things happen to be fine from the get-go, there is a direct button that bypasses the tone controls and also the balance control. If you are blessed/cursed with ears so golden that you can detect a relay switch in the signal path, you have my sympathies.
Hello!! Congratulations on the review!! I would like to know what would be the best combination for the KEF Q150. Would a Cambridge AXA35 or ARCAM SA10 deliver the best of the Q150 to my ears? Thanks!!
Ah, Arcam. My SA20 integrated amp drives a pair of Sonus Faber Grand Piano Domus speakers like nobody's business. The accompanying CDS27 CD player is still going strong after 4 years of constant use. This is a rich, lifelike and non-fatiguing setup ideal for people who want to be immersed in music. It will distort at very high volumes, but for low to medium volumes I would have a hard time putting together a better sounding system.
Nice to hear your input on th SA20. I hqve one too and love it. I am powering a pair of Polk Audio Lsim 703s with it and live the neutral sound. I think the sound is a bit bass heavy and would sometimes want less but overall Im happy. What do you think about pairing the SA20 with a pair of Focals?
Just got thru trying to get some support from Arcam/now part of Harmon, for a DV27 I purchased mistakenly thinking Arcam was still on their game. My mistake! Not only did I get the run around for two weeks but after two weeks of my time, their rep. tried to shine me on about it not realizing I had done my homework on the unit. Kevin you say it all the time now big business is f-ing up the hi end industry and ripping people off, welcome to the new Harmon division! That’s right, Revel, M.L. JBL, some of the big boys! I know your getting bigger and selling tons, but so sorry to see this is where your going and you are back in the Arcam/ Harmon family. I for one work way to hard for my money to support this road to riches for sub-par companies. Best of luck, I’ve purchased several pieces from you, but I’ll be moving on now. PS . The new JBL’s are having problems with the veneer falling off after a year!
Did not say a word about it not being a decent product ( definitely not high end) I was simply stating that now the are part of Harmon., a massive company. That like many others in the industry today, when you need support your are pretty much out of luck, thus, lower prices, a cheeper product, and you can basically just buy a new one. Simply stating a fact! You don’t see issues like this happen with Prima Luna, Wilson Audio, etc. Not knocking Arcam, just saying you get what you pay for today with the industry buying each other out.
Would Focal speakera pair nicley with this amp? I have Polk Audio Lsim 703s but I think they are bass heavy. I donlike the sound though. Kevin can you review the Arcam SA20 please?
I've been looking pretty closely at this amp. The SA20, I'm running some efficient Klipsch RP 160M speakers, thinking about Heresy IV in the future, would the SA20 stay in class A except for dynamic peaks running efficient speakers? Is it worth the extra expense?
I personally think its worth the upgrade to the SA20. My SA20 is powering a pair of Polk Audio Lsim703s and it sounds amazing. Ive also used to power a pair of SVS Ultra Bookshelfs but liked the more neutral sound of the Polks. If I remember correctly the SA20 will jump into Class G technology if you push more than like 20 or 30 watts. Class G retains the fidelity of Class A but does it more efficiently. The Amp runs relatively cool even when pushed hard.
Have a FMJ A19, I purchased the SA10 not to upgrade (A19 is more musical in fact) but for mere convenience as I wanted an integrated dac. Turned out it picks AM radio stations through inputs, interconnects and speaker cables, so the noise floor is... radio! I sent it back for a replacement, because I was sure it was a defective unit, and lo and behold, the new unit has the very same problem. Maybe I was unlucky two times in a row, but I guess I'm steering away from Arcam for the future
