My Best Ever? - Wood Turning

- A very difficult turn of Cherry Plum but worth all the effort. This piece is just beautiful and I consider it at least one of my best woodturning pieces. It's a Live Edge End-Grain turning with lots of natural features left in. There was a little lathe accident with the piece flying off but easily replaced without any damage.

Thank You To Tuffy Marginez for providing this wood to us for all to enjoy!
I love your work. I started turning 3 years ago at age 68 and I truly love it. I learned everything I know from watching you, Rob Humphrey, Al Furtardo, and Doug at pohlbarn and many others on utube. Thanks for sharing your work.
This is great to know, thank you! I, too, learned to turn from UA-cam videos. It's a great resource!
Phil I think that’s the best piece that you have ever turned. That is absolutely beautiful.

Thank you, Doug! 😀
I love that! I think that's the best piece you've ever done, even with all the problems you had to carve it out. My wife thinks you should make it into a hanging lampshade. She has a point.
It would make a great lampshade, Walter! 😊
I agree w/ another commentor, this is a Million Dollar turn! Spectacular 🎉 Plum is now my favorite wood, love the pinks in it!😊

Hi,Phil.
As advertised one remarkable turning! The wood is beautiful in color.
Yeah, this is pretty wood, Ron! 😊
Exquisite piece! You're a brave man Phil. I truly admire your determination and persistence with this bowl. It seems that often the most beautiful pieces require the most tenacity. You had to fight to reveal the beauty here and the finished piece....wow! The inside looks like marble! Great job Mr Anderson. Keep on turnin'!
When we have wood like this, it's hard to stop short of what it could be, I think. I'm glad you appreciate all the nature in this piece, thank you, Stevan! 😊

Skull from one angle. Good balance between raw nature and turned surfaces. Well done, Phil!
I'll go look for the skull, Valerie. Thank you so much, my friend!
Phil
Woops!!!
Now regroup and continue it has all the beauty you just need to let it out
😊
If I had been turning this piece I would have gone for a shape that I could leave the sides with the bark on it and just turned a bowl in the top, because I loved the way the outside looked, which would have been a shame because I wouldn't have gotten the gorgeous piece that you got. It's absolutely amazing how that turned out 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 a solid 15/10.
I'm glad you are thinking these things through, J'Lyssa. There are always options, I'm sure with this piece your design would have looked fantastic! Thank you, I'm glad you like the way this turned out! 😊
What a beautiful piece Phil, I too think you are one of the best at reading wood. That’s why no matter what you turn, it turns out to be special. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much, kid!
Phil
When your Cherry Plum let go I had a flashback to my days operating a Warner/Swasey 2A! I worked on pre-machined pieces as well as bar stock, but EVERYTHING was metal!....& unlike wood, it's UNFORGIVING to your body & life when a tool hits porosity in the casting(s)!
Having shared my meaningless bits of personal minutia, your Cherry Plum bowl is NOTHING short of absolutely spectacular, Phil! To my jaundiced eye, it resembles a massive wooden flower fully opened to the sun......the likes of which one would perhaps expect to see in some surrealistic painting.
Yes, definitely looks like a flower. 😊
Beautiful piece well done.👍🎄
Phil as always your work is awesome. You really do a nice job explaining your process and your videos are always a great source of inspiration.
So nice to read this, thank you very much!
Wow gorgeous!!!!

I have the same hollowing tool for just the reason you showed. It can really come in handy. A very small footprint and very easy to control. Great job.
Very cool, Matt, agree on both points! 😊
Wow looks great Phil 👍
Looks good.
Nature rightfully salutes you, i think
Well done
Thank you very much, Tom! 😊

Yeah, this is a pretty one. Thank you, Ruth!
Your ability to visualize the finished part is truly brilliant.
You are too kind, Charlie, thank you so much for your uplifting comment! 😊
Phil you are really amazing at your art! I love that you allow nature to remain and dictate some aspects to you.
I wouldn't have it any other way, JN. Nature is in charge, I'm just shining it up a bit. Thank you!
Phil
Perfect, I agree that this is one if not the best work you have done1 admire your tallest and ingenuity in solving problems.

I don’t remember ever shacking watching a woodturning video. It was crazy, insane to turn without a proper solid base but YOU did. A true oeuvre d’art! Fabulous!
Glad you enjoyed it, Sylvie, thank you very much! 😊

It’s a beauty Phil 👍👍👍👍
absolutely gorgeous
Thank you, Phil! 😊
Excellent, Phil! I spend lots of time watching your vids. Great stuff. My family are 4 generations in the timber trade, but I've only turned once, a mahogany fruit bowl in 1954 when in school. I still have it. Made from a door to a 17th Century country mansion in the UK. Keep up the splendid work!
Wow, talk about a historical piece! Very cool, Richard! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop It came from a mansion designed by Sir Christopher Wrenn, destroyed by fire in 1949. My school was built in the grounds after that. I enjoyed turning my bowl, and I wish now I had done a lot more turning. I ran our sawmill for a while, and Dad had many species of hardwood in our yard. I've always appreciated the beauty of wood grain and the colours and scents: red cedar in particular.
An incredibly beautiful piece - just brilliant Phil. Very good work!
Glad you like it, Mike, thank you for spending so much time with me! 😊
What a difficult piece wow! It looks outstanding Phil! I admire your approach to try to leave as much nature as possible. Thanks for the inspiration to think differently about how I turn my bowls and make them each unique!
I love reading your comment, Brian! You seem to understand what I'm about and I love knowing you will consider the same approach in your turnings. Thank you!
Phil
That is absolutely beautiful !
Glad you like it, Jeff, thanks! 😊
Great piece Phil. Beautiful job!
