Hi from 🇨🇦 Phil . I have watch so many of your videos and there are many that I thought at the beginning were going to be a waste of your time. Well when I seen the beginning of this video I was 100% sure it was going to be a very nice piece of fire wood. Well I was SO WRONG. You sir have turned the impossible.
You have a talent that so few have. It’s an honour to watch you at work. This piece is my favourite of ALL wood turnings I have ever watched on UA-cam. And I have spent many hours watching many talented turners, but this has just put you in a category of your own👍.

Phil Anderson - Shady Acres Woodshop Well it’s the truth Phil. I have a ? For you. At what speed do you do your sanding ? Wondering if there is a ideal speed? Meaning what RPM is to fast or to slow.

    • @PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop
      @PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop  4 роки тому +2

@@watcherdude1330 Typically, 350 rpm. If the piece, like this one, has voids where I'm sanding a lot of air, I will go faster, maybe up to 450. That lessens the chance the disk sander will fall into the void. You do normally want to sand at a little lower rpm to allow the sandpaper to do it's job. Hope that helps!

The 2" candle to me warmed up the most wood of "The Piece". Your vision of how the piece evolves is artistry. Anyone can turn a rectangular cube into a bowl. Creating an asymmetrical, beautiful form from an irregular piece of wood...now that's art

Man, I don't think anyone was expecting this piece. I was scared it would fly off lol. I think the metal piece accents the wood best, and it almost seems to make the birl pop even more. I try limiting my daily UA-cam videos, but I am noticing a bit of a binge on your videos. Your work makes me want to try the more complicated pieces I have stacked outside my shop. As I’ve said before, I love maple. This wood has such a pretty color and the grain is fantastic. I think I like the flickering candles best but I can’t decide between the two and three inch candles. I like the candles best because they don’t compete with the wood, they enhance it. The maple is the star of the show! Another lovely job, Phil. Great way to start the year!

I remember when, back in September, you and I were standing in front of Ye Olde Wall o' Woode in my garage contemplating the weird lumps and chunks I've collected and I pulled that one out and thrust it into your not exactly excited grasp. The method you came up with for mounting is simply superb! I think you have topped my Peek-a-Boo vase made from the same tree! Very very nice, no matter which insert you use. Well turned, indeed! HA! You saw that reluctant look on my face, huh Dave? I set the piece front and center. It may be visible in some of my other videos when I have the camera pointing at the workbench. I picked it up many times, turned it around, turned it over, and put it back. I could see the potential just in the beautiful wood but had a hard time figuring out out to hold it. Finally worked out. I'm so glad you like it, buddy!

This tree presented me with a lot of large pieces of trunk, all concave as the heartwood rotted out while the tree was standing. Nothing but sap wood which kept growing for years, churning out suckers. So it's not true burl, fairly punky in places and tears out horribly. (but sands out easily, so there's that) I had no idea how to treat this chunk and figured to challenge Phil with it. Wow! I am sitting here in amazement!

Wow Phil, what a fantastic piece. It is beautiful . I like the last insert, the metallic one.

Wow, your vision and skill ceases to amaze. I like the two inch candle. You can get a one inch candle that would show off more of that beautiful wood.

Great looking turning and i like the plain glass but I agree it should be shorter and the candles look good too. Well done.

A very difficult piece to accomplish, but a wonderful result as a candle holder, Phil. Good work!

That’s awesome Phil. I would go
With the candle idea. Gives it that little extra touch. Great job.

Dear Phil what an awesome piece of wood. While you were busy with it I was thinking it will look awesome if you put a small glass like vase in it with red roses. But again you have the perfect result that little silver thing looks perfect in there. You did it again magnificent and spectacular.

I was thinking vase as well, Kobie. It still could hold a vase but the candle holders work well, too. Thank you very much!

That's always a gamble, isn't it, Andy? Trying to top the last one. Oh, well, that probably won't be any time soon! Thank you, my friend!

This is a work of art Phil, when you started I was wondering what you could possibly make out of a chunk of Lathe unfriendly wood like that, I was thinking you might use resin but in the end it turned out better without resin..! Shortest candle works best I think. Nice work..

I thought you were crazy, but after seeing the different candles and glass and different objects you placed in the center that it truly is amazing well done, I like it a lot.
