Love the Steve Brule reference! Regardless of bar or type of pull, what Cailer and Larry did in the clips used is incredibly impressive! Very strong dudes!
I’ve been seriously training deadlift for 8 months. I could pull 455 on a power bar all day. I had never used a real deadlift bar until about two months ago. I pulled 495 like it weight 455. The difference to me was amazing and extremely evident. I’m tall and have an even greater ape index than my height by several inches. The bend in the bar with 495 felt like pulling a 3” advantage with a power bar. ...And it just launched off the floor. I bought an Ohio deadlift bar last week but will continue to switch using it and the power bar just for the feeling of deficit pulls especially when doing deficits.
Alan, I just wanted to say 2 things. 1) I've always appreciated your content, and continue to enjoy the evolution of it. And 2) If you haven't heard of a band called "Slugdge", you should check them out on Bandcamp. They're my #1 most listened to band when I'm lifting, and as a metalhead, I think they would appreciate their work.
Alan you are the only person on UA-cam who talks about the things you talk about. And that is GREAT. Always useful info and something to learn. Oh and you're also pretty Fing funny.
Alan, great video. It was hilarious and informative, but more importantly you have Dwane the Rock Johnson selling Under Armour before your video starts. You’ve made it my friend.
The California bar cut-away was hilarious. Something to consider is whether a DL with a "DL bar" rather than a power bar is essentially a different movement due to the decreased ROM and graduated loading off the floor. Anyone who buys a DL bar to make their numbers look better hasn't become stronger overnight, have they? ergo, it's not the same lift
Quick question, do you think there are some people who just physically can’t get into the conventional deadlift? I have done months of mobility work, but still can’t get into the position with a flat back. Sumo isn’t an issue and neither are squats.
nikthegreekcypriot i think that, yeah. Honestly working out what u can is better than what cant. Block pulls or rack pulls and romanian deadlifts or stiff leg are better than no doing anything
beans it’s so frustrating, I’m not a particularly strong deadlifter, sumo I’ve pulled 160kg and conventional I did 152.5kg for 3 @76kg a few months ago, but I definitely feel stronger from the conventional stance. But I literally can’t get my entire back flat. If I get the lumbar flat then the top rounds and vice Versa. I do 4x6 rdl twice a week as I do a lower/upper split.
nikthegreekcypriot I had to change to conventional because I wanted to do strongman. Have you tried working a few months on an 18 inch deadlift instead?
nikthegreekcypriot do you compete tho. Because if you dont you can just sub the deadlift for what i said above amd still get amazing strength and musculature and not snap your low back. I think i oughta do that cuz my low back has been hurting after deadlifts
Maximillion Thermidor when you say an 18 inch deadlift do you mean block pulls? I can pull with a straight back if the bar is on blocks approximately 4 inches off the floor
I bought a dreadlift bar and my max went from 315 to 495 overnight. Then I switched to Sumo cheat deadlifts and it went up to 950.
Mark Bryant try using mixed grip (not double overhand as you did until now) and belt...i think it would brings your dl to 1500+
All I had to do was start using chalk and my deadlift shot up from 135 lbs to 2000 lbs.
If you scream loudly that's at least +200lb, maybe more if everyone in the gym hears it.
Lol "Sumo cheat deadlifts" love those.
I put on shirts that say things about weight lifting. It adds a solid ten pounds to each lift.
omg, california bar, died
I'm dying :')
I had a legitimate laugh
I thought it was hacky and cliche. The rest of the video had great info though.
NatureFavor
The comedy in this video is amazing
I had to pause the video just to finish laughing
I love that Alan is a Steve Brule fan lmao.
He's a man of culture

10/10 dr brule, forget that dangus green he is just a hunk
+1 like for the California bar
Most often i use California bar during heavy deadlifts :)
The California bar got a chuckle outta me.
Steve Brule and Deadlifting on one video? nonsense that's too good to be true
Love the Steve Brule reference! Regardless of bar or type of pull, what Cailer and Larry did in the clips used is incredibly impressive! Very strong dudes!
Anybody rewatching this is 2019 just to see that Dr. Adam Paul intro?
It's 2020 and I'm still laughing at that intro
2021 for the win
Great editing and always so entertaining. You outdid yourself Alan :)!
I love Dr Paul! He needs to a regular on this program.

I always come back to this video every so often just to get a good laugh from the opening scene. Greatest of all time.
1000 respects for the brule skit intro
Dude I freaking love Steve Brule. Thank you so much for this.

Seems like switching to a deadlift bar could be a good way to keep adding 5 lbs to your weekly 1x5 deadlift.
Fake Natty lmaooo
That's pretty clever lol
You mean every 5th workout...
Never left xhamster so fast.
Jordi ENP
This is pure gold! It's awesome that you're a Steve Brule fan.

Great Job!
That was the best Steve Brule impersonation I’ve ever seen! Good info on the dreadlift bar too
As if I didn't already like Allan's content enough, he collaborates with one of my biggest idols Dr. Steve Brule... pure genius my friend.
I love Dr. Steve Brule and I love you, Alan for doing this!!!
To neatly summarize, the advantage of a deadlift bar is that it bends, thus reducing ROM.
Alan, great video. It was hilarious and informative, but more importantly you have Dwane the Rock Johnson selling Under Armour before your video starts. You’ve made it my friend.
That intro lmao I’m dying!!. You need to do that bit more often for educational stuff like this.
everything about the intro is gold
You are brilliant Alan! Thanks for your vídeos, always funny and informative. Cheers pal!
Thanks to the California bar , I know have coffee all over my computer.....

The amount of times I've watched this for the intro is ridiculous.
Nice explanation, I like your facial expression when you say “train untamed” it is hilarious! The Barbell Comedian. Thanks Alan.
Great humour in this one. Thanks for sharing.
In the begging you presented 3 bar types, but in later comparisons you showed only 2. disappointed!
lol, in the "begging" xD
The California bar was a joke
It can't be, California bars are the only type available in my gym.
47 seconds in and this is the best video I’ve seen since the last video i watch about delgringos seafood drumpster.
Omg dude.... you NAILED the Brule. 11/10

Absolutley loved this, 10/10 on that intro 😂😂
No BS, straight up facts and info. Thanks.
Man, your locking into place/pulling the slack out of the bar is legit.
Going back and re-watching Allan's old video's and i just have to say that he sounds like young Rocky at the beginning of the video XD

I wish Dr Brule came back for the Train Untamed at the end.
Wow that Steve Brule impersonation was spot on
I liked Powerwolf playing at 4:12!
Ironically, American Barbell makes a bar called the California Bar and it’s an awesome all-purpose bar. CHECK IT OUT.

Perfect timing for this video for me. I was considering getting a DL bar but after watching, I'll wait until I can at least pull 500 with my Ohio PB.
