Oh snap! Here's a video probably none of you saw coming. :P Today's What's On My Desk (WOMD) is all about the Japanese watchmaker that almost put Switzerland out of business in the 70's.

Best Seiko history video I’ve seen out there. Thanks Roman.
thanks Ray!
Amazing introduction into Seiko! Thanks ! I just ordered one Digital display Seiko just to relive the memory ! Cheap and fun ! Thanks Roman! My week just ended better ! Have a good weekend ahead.
I bought the TV Computer and Voice recorder watches! will do an episode with these!
Thanks. I bought my Grand Seiko after my Tudors and Rolex and man, are they good. Design is not the most exciting but they come out with some new models recently that seem to be a bit more daring.... love my spring drive, it’s mesmerizing and as a watch nerd you got to admire it...
I am actually hoping they go less conservative as well
Great video as always, Roman. Seiko is very near and dear to my heart. My father proudly wore one when he first came to America. After achieving the American dream he now owns and all gold day date that he wears with just as much pride. The brand will always remind me of our humble beginnings and how much of a privilege it is to be able to participate in this hobby.
Thanks Tarique and thats a great story as well!
Great video Roman. GS really makes beautiful watches. The Snowflake and Spring Drive technology is fantastic.
Thanks Richard
In 1967 I purchased a Seiko World Time at the Clark AFB Base Exchange in the Philippines. I loved that watch, too bad it got lost in time.
Oh man what a shame!
Seiko makes a very good watch, especially their Grand Seiko, which I thought was a separate company.
Thanks for some history behind them😊
I'm just waiting for a Grand Seiko Spring Drive that I love....
who needs google if you have roman haha 🤣
informative and really reliable..
thanks for information
love you videos always..
reading lots of reviews online and i know some people hate seiko service..
in other countries..
i have 1 seiko hopefully i don’t need service as long as they continue to do this practice..
Thanks Aaron
The music you played, "A Summer Place" by Percy Faith, came out in 1959.
Ian is a twenty something ... will have to School him :-)
Amazing content Roman!
Thank you so much for your work. Greetings from switzerland
Thanks for the kind words Dome :) Happy to have your support.
It would be strange to see Seiko as the enemy, even by the most dedicated mechanical snob...
Seiko has a huge offering in mechanical watches that are extremely affordable in lots of styles with a very active community.
And that shows in that Seiko is probably the brand with the most nicknames for their models.
So Seiko is for a lot of people the first brand to come in contact with mechanical watches and the hobby of owning or collecting them, where they maybe later step up to more high end brands as they get older and money becomes less of an object.
So in that way it functions as a breeding room for mechanical watch afficianados.
Agreed and well said!
Saiko is fantastic. My favorites are probably the C515 and the chronographs from the '80s. Beautiful aesthetics.
The GPS function on the Astron models do not need sunlight/solar for it to operate. The solar models in the whole Seiko range incorporates a solar panel which recharges the rechargeable battery so eliminating the need to change the battery for the life of the watch (unless the battery fails).
noted and thanks
Great video as always Roman 👍🏽
thanks David
Thanks for the Shoutout Roman! Great Video keep the heat coming!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Anytime I really enjoyed that video and your other videos and of course the way you tell the story bro!
@@RomanSharf 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Hi Roman, Great video as always.. so great that you take time to do this! I have a Seiko that I bought in 2006 for around 800$ and it was my favourite for many years. But now my collection of watches has reached 21 watches and I find that I rarely use my older watches, maybe mostly because they are primarily quartz watches and requiere battery. But in hopes of maybe one day they will become collectible I keep them. So I also love mechanical watches but in the last few years I have purchased Citizen solar watches which just need a bit of light to run, which makes it really convenient.
Would love to hear you make same type of video on Citizen watches, their response to Seiko gps would be the Satellite wave.
Another side question: travelling with an expensive watch... I normally only wear my more expensive watches for private gatherings, have you had any bad experience wearing a valuable watch on your travels?
a good question to discuss on an episode
Great history lesson👌🏻 thanks Roman
Thanks Jimmy
Excellent episode!!!
Thanks Roddy
Really informative video Roman....excellent!
Thanks Wilbert, glad you found it to be helpful.
Hi Roman, always did follow your channel on watch. A watch caught my interest past few days looking at an advertisement that just pop out on my youtube about Grand Seiko SBGA229 & SBGA231. I search through the internet but couldn't much info about the watch with the brand. And then, Roman Sharf appeared in my mind. Would like to ask your opinion on the brand and the watch model if you could share some thoughts about it.
Great episode. Thank you 👍
Thanks Mark
me want all...lol. Thanks Roman!
lol no problem we sell them :-)
Seiko should remake the Astron just like the original up to modern standards in solid gold.
Yeah!
Nautilus hype. The 5712g seems undervalued compared to its stainless steel counterpart.
Any thoughts on it?
What is a good value (if any) nautilus?
5712 in white gold
Hey, Roman great channel, love the content. Quick question about the Grand Seiko Snowflake, overpriced? But potentialy future collector's item? I love the Spring Drive movement with its super slick second hand. What are your thoughts?
very hard to say Seiko just makes so many watches, and in collecting its a numbers game, plus trends change all the time
what about the bell-matic watches
Wooo seiko
Wich watch are you wearing?
the original breguet type XX from the fifties (see my colab video with Adam Menta)
Seiko is my fav brand cuz I can afford it
White Birch Seiko looks so nice and it’s only 9K
Are you sure about that 230 years ? :D
lol my math is off by 100 years :-)
I love my seiko watches!
👍👍👍👍
Nice, I was a fan of Seiko back in the 1980's and 90's but stopped following them.
why?
@@RomanSharf because watches were no longer of interest to me.
@@johnwayne2103 got it
😍❤️❤️❤️😍
360p? Watch sales must be hurting.
?
Shipmate switch to 1080p? It’s available...
Too long for history 😂
is that a Nazi symbol on that building !!??🤔
They can shiratzu polish all they want, GS does nothing for me... Seiko neither..
its not for everyone
