      I believe it's water/moisture that has absorbed into the break fluid which boils rather than the break fluid itself

    The brakes convert kinetic energy to heat, if you start breaking at the same speed, they MUST get up to the same temperature no matter what you do as long as you dont lock up.

    Contaminated pads are the way to go..
    The break in time is longer and the sound is terrible..
    But they grab harder and stop faster..
    On the track we soak our pads in oil for this reason..
    It actually works!
    But you will have to change them sooner..
    I can only imagine grease is similar 🤷‍♂️

    Everyone saying the brake fluid is boiling is very wrong..
    If that was the case the lever would get harder..
    The pad is contaminated and now compromised..
    But it’s actually still a decent brake..
    Water and air can’t be pressurized the same as a gas..
    Brake fluid is not boiling off into water or air.. it may become a gas for a while.
    But as said before, that will increase brake pressure..
    Brake fade is caused by that and you will get absolutely no braking if you get there..
    But good luck trying 😂

    • @dashofawesome64
      @dashofawesome64 Місяць тому +1

      The fluid gets hot, starts to boil until the pressure reaches the point it can't boil anymore because its in a closed loop.
      Now you have brake fluid and vaporized brake fluid in the system. When pressing the lever you compress all the vaporized brake fluid first and then the liquid starts moving to advance the pistons. The bite point moves based on the temp of it all. If he got it hotter the brakes would be fully gone for some time. Also its bad for the fluid to do this a lot.

    My front hydraulic brake on my mtb always gets greasy somehow, it is squeaky and it stops very badly and you gotta push it fully if you want it to do anything, you can feel that your finger slides easily when dragging it on the rotor, but when I go drop down a hill just using the front brake and then it starts throwing me over the bars, it gets even too good. One time I was riding thru the crosswalk one handed and I pressed on the brake veeery lightly and I was like 60° in the air... I've degreased the pads and resurfaced the rotors many times, but they still get back to this condition sadly, idk what it is.

    • @dashofawesome64
      @dashofawesome64 Місяць тому

      I think a seal is leaking in your caliper. Happens a lot. Depending on what brakes you have get a new caliper or whole brake set. If there expensive, you can buy seal kit for the calipers form you're local bike shop or aliexpress. Recommend having an air compressor to help with removing the pistons. Don't forget bleeding afterwards. It's probably mineral oil. Maybe DOT.
