As always thanks for watching,

Also just to clarify we don’t have all the premium features. Extra inclusions for that are dual fans, front mount usb outlets and the air lift.
Thanks for the review guys. I'm impressed by what I've seen.
Thanks Andrew appreciate the comment. I will be doing a follow up video soon after our trip over the CSR, the West Coast, back through the Red Center and the Simpson which was a great test for it. There were a few small issues but overall we have been happy with the unit.
Looks unreal. Couldn’t agree more about it being the best looking conversion on the market. Also great to see an Australian manufacturer getting into it too - hopefully we’ll see some more installers start popping up and see a few more around 🙏
Matt, so good to see this installation on your Troopy. I am definitely getting it as well & even more convinced now 😊
Ive got a head space in the middle of the range. Very pleased with it. Dropped of Monday picked up lunch friday
I did have a alucab rtt on a ute. The build quality of headspace matches/exeeds.
Functionality with the sleeping arrangement works well for us
Good to hear from someone else who has one mate :)
This is one of the best looking trophy's I think I have seen and that conversion looks fantastic inside. Can't wait to see a full walk through
Looks epic! I agree, you'd think it was factory fitted at first glance
Nicely done n great to see a local Australian product on the market
Love the head space . My friend has a defender 110 with one like it better then the alucab we had . Great to see that they are now doing troopys also . GREAT REVIEW . Cheers from Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A.
Looks unreal so proud of you guys! From the lux bus to this wow wee!
You Australians have the coolest toys.
Matt thanks for the video 👍👍
Beautiful 👏 looks fantastic 👌 looks factory fitted 😊 Thanks for sharing 👍 Greetings and cheers 🍻 Mate from south africa 🇿🇦
Looks fantastic 😍 have a great trip on the CSR looking forward to seeing the episodes cheers legends ☺️
Keen to film them!
Looks really great!
I agree with you on the aesthetics. Its silhouette is beautiful. It looks just like the OEM roof of the Troopy. I like the contoured shape when closed. IMO it is the best looking Troopy RT conversion that I've seen. The pitch & going for a twin rear trap doors are thoughtful design elements - a marked improvement over a single one. And best of all, it's Australian made. Let's hope it is also very durable. Great choice. 👍 BTW, can you extend the roof rails all the way near the front of the RT?
Yes, you can add front rails too!
This conversion is definitely the most aesthetic looking, still looks factory - the other ones are really boxy and look terrible
Perfect, I hope someone will bring this to the USA. I saw it done by someone who did it themselves. I can't do this, I'd need someone to offer the conversion.
looks good
I have Alucab but at least this brand goes a bit further with aesthetics and provides some better options than Alucab does. I wouldnt recommend Alucab to anyone now anyways but I wouldnt also get this set up as it is too high, I have been in very strong winds and had to close my rooftop, I couldnt imagine it in that but at least it suites you guys for what your needs are. Glad to see an Aussie brand on display.
Look like factory fitted from Toyota. Pretty good 👍
Hi, for more electrecity use . DUAL alternator in care ingine
Love these conversions, including the Alucab version. Only problem is, it really only comfortably fits one regular sized human. Unless of course you sleep perfectly still and like a mummy. Unfortunately, I tend to move and like to sleep with my arms up above my head, so impossible for my wife and I to share the 1250mm width. It's a pity no-one has designed a conversion like this that takes advantage of the entire width of the vehicle... so, until someone thinks about the bedspace, we'll have to stick to ground or rooftop tents...Looks great on the troopy though!
Hey mate, this conversion is defiantly the entire width ion the vehicle. Keep in mind I'm 6'2 and holly is quite tall and we fit quite well. But at the end of the day you can only make it as wide as the vehicle.
Amazing conversion guys. Loving all aspects of it. We're wondering what solar panel you got for it - brand and wattage? We love how sleek it looks and thinking about getting that panel for our troopy if the wattage is good enough.
Hey mate cheers. its a Redarc 180W panel. We have a 115W blanket when we need the juice. It just depends on how much power you need. I say that would be enough for moist people.
Definitely looks better than a roof top tent. Do the gas struts lock out?
very nice and well thought out! now adventure ready!! :-)
Can't wait!
It is nice to see another option and love that it it uses original roof. However AluCab used to do the same with the Icarus conversion and I think found it to rather limiting wrt production times.
The angle is great, but the canopy looks very small in the video and I don’t see how much rain production it will give. Also suspect the wind will catch it nicely .
Great review.
We’ve been travelling Aus on and off for 4 years and we never had a tent with rain awnings, and not once did we have rain come in from the side…. It generally falls straight down. I honestly think the coverage will be more than sufficient for air flow during rain. With fans up top it would be even better. In regards to wind it’s been great so far.
Side awnings 😉
Only when I see a roof top that folds out on both sides with a bench / bed each, I look back up. I find you can lift the roof as high but the little hoody canvas on too wont keep the rain off, that penetrates the now huge sides in fly mesh.
You can choose how much you want the windows down so it will be more than sufficient for rain. In 4 years on and off traveling aus we have not once had rain come in from the side of our tents that didn’t have side rain awnings.
I have watched a heap of videos with the roof conversion and i will also agree its the best looking design so thats your original roof skin thats on top of the tent? i like that 👌 whole thing looks sick
Yep its our original one
In terms of the latches (hinges in your video), if they're happy for latches to be either inside or outside but recommend outside - I'm assuming for strength in holding the tent closed properly.
Couldn't you just put latches outside AND inside? That way you have the strength of the outside ones, and the security of the inside ones which would only take a few extras seconds to undo.
Looks good, obviously we’ll built but couple of things I’m not keen on. Fixing that awning on the back looks a little bit of a hassle leaning out the back, wouldn’t be the best to do in the dark. There’s a lot of exposed sided and back that might not be that good in the rain but not much can be done about that given the design. Just as well you’re 6ft, you need to be to turn off the bedroom light, why didn’t they put a light down nearer to your head for reading and a switch you can reach laying in bed. Small problems I know but sometimes they are the worst things, As I said , looks good , it’ll work for you and you’ll enjoy it. One other little observation I’m personally not keen on the look of those huge wheels but that’s just me.
Cheers.
I agree with you on the wheels. They look way too big to be on a tourer. I’d hate to do a tyre change in the heat with those monsters. 🍺
P.S Looking forward to you getting on the road and doing the CSR. I’ve done it a couple of times and I look forward to your trip on it. There’s been quite a bit of rain up around there so you might find it a bit sloppy in places. Those big wheels might come in handy. TIME TO HIT THE ROAD.!! 😀😀
Hey mate thanks for watching :) I do the poles by reaching out because I can reach, but Olly does have a purpose built strap that you can hook onto the end and use that to do the poles. And in regards to the exposed mesh you can choose how much you want the windows down, so if it is raining you wouldn’t have too much open. But I can honestly say that our previous two tents without side awnings for rain, 3 years on and off traveling we have never had rain come in the side. It generally falls straight down. And yes the tires are way too big but I like they way they look 😅 so definitely a heart decision on the last one not a head decision haha
Love it, great review. Really keen to know about that side table - are they available?
Hey mate I’ll have a video out next week about the build out done by project overlander. They also mate the side table, it’s fantastic we’ve been loving it.
@@OverlandTravellers thanks Matt, I will reach out to them. Love the decals as well....they really make the look.
I was going to ask that too!
Love it, looks great
Looks like new promising player on roof conversion market for Troopy.
Waiting for more detail, critical review after few weeks of using it !!! I would like to know is it 2x better than Alucab which is half price almost.
For example from my experience top light in the tent which require to stand up to switch it off is not good idea. It should be switch accessible from sleeping position.
Hey mate! ill be doing a more critical review soon of linger term use :) As for price its actually about the same as the alucab, you might have looked at the roof top tents which would be about half, the conversion are the same
Hey guys, now you’ve had the headspace conversion for a while have you had any issues (canvas leaking)I’ve seen on troop carriers Aust selling there headspace camper as it leaked Looking at biting the bullet but this has made me think twice 🙁
Seen the same. +1 for (honest) long term followup!
Nice vid matt,
Best looking conversion no doubt.
Looking forward to hear your long term review. Any roof movements in corrugated roads. Dust and water seal.
Do you know the max weight can put on roof
Thanks Matt
No worries mate ill do a video soon
looks alright, the carpet lining looks pretty average as far as finish goes, ill give it a few hot days and i see that peeling off
Yep we will see. He’s been doing them on defenders for years now I think he would have that adhesive pretty sorted out by now
Hey great video, could you please tell me the turn around time on the conversion?
Looks great 👍
Best to contact headspace mate
very nice - we are building our troopy at the moment. What colour is have you painted yours?
Sandy tourpe
20K + change is a massive amount of money for a RTT. Sure it is nice and convenient, but you can just add an RTT for less than $5K, or just have a normal quick tent for less than $1K..... Love the concept, but the price is absolutely outrageous....
They start at $12500. A good quality rtt starts at 5k and a decent roof rack is 2k. For the extra money your getting a lot lower weight on the roof, the functionality of standing and a Bette tourer in general. But yes still a lot of money
Haven’t you got the onboard compressor for lifting mechanism? What awning do you have. Cheers
We do have a compressor but no lifting mechanism. The gas struts work fine. The awning is from Destination 4WD
$20,000 that’s just insane
Starts at 13. Pretty standard for these conversions
@@Da-t5v well don’t buy it then 😂
I notice that the ceiling inside your car cabin looks like timber floor boards or decking. Whilst it looks nice, do you feel it causes more echo and noise inside the cabin...as opposed to noise cancelling carpet? Your thoughts are appreciated.
Not really, I would have to sit in one with carpet but it doesn't seem loud at all.
Hi. Once you remove metal spring poles, do you have to unzip the half side and back "awnings" off before closing the roof? Thanks
If you have them on yes you do as they go around the gas struts
Not for me.
Can't stand RTT or pop top canopies with a bed. Too cumbersome/difficult. A great pain in the arse getting in or out and getting dressed etc
Heya,
I noticed there is no storage shelf in in the cab, is this an option at all?
Cheers
Aaron
Yes I believe it is an option
Are there versions for a ute?
It does look like the nicest on the market. All these roof conversions I feel are priced to high. They should all be closer to $10,000 why are they so expensive?
If you could make one yourself for that price they would fly off the shelves
You lost me at the outside hingers 😞
Why is that? If it is a safety thing, I really think you need to think the situation through. Imagine you're in South America, someone has woken you up in the middle of the night screaming at you with a gun, you're just going to calmly wake up, go down, close the lid, all the while a gun is pointing at you, climb in the front, start the car and get going? But also if I lost you at the point I mentioned outside hinges you missed the part where I said internal hinges are an option.
So you didn't show the mattress, or the underneath of mattress ( where most need some kinf of aerocell etc to stop mould/moisture etc. It doesn't have any real benefit over a normal RTT except being able to stand up in the back of the 78......Again I like it - looks great, but for 20+K man, i'd have a super hard time justifying this!.....
They start at $12500 as I said in the video. There is a anti condensation layer underneath. Check the website for the details. I personally thinf there is a lot of advantages over a rtt as stated in the video
Is this OEM color? Which color is the Troopy? thanks great setup.
Yep this is the color from factory
The color is called Sandy Taupe, one of 3 colors the troopy is available in. The others are French Vanilla(white) and Midnight Blue
Sorry but we have a Alu Cab conversion on our Troopy. I find Alu Cab is a Far better conversion .
Why is that?
What is your opinion to say this?
What Bar Work Front & Rear have you installed
Off road animal at the front, the cruiser company at the back
What is the silver box thing on the side?
Maxtrax side table have a look at the build out video we show what it does
So around $22,000 AUD for Premium model...
Yep. 12.5k starting though
I thought you were going to go with the million dollar roof top camper you were telling us to by very disappointed
FOR THE SHORT VERSION GO TO 8:00
Hey Matt. What brand awning you got there? 270?
It’s from destination 4WD. 270 but with telescopic arms. Aus made as well…. I’ll do a video on it soon :)
Can you make love up there without rolling the troopy over ?
If you do it solo you should be fairly safe😂
Your Truck camping set up(troopy included) cost at least 8 times what my house did I paid $17,000 cash in 2008 for a 1 bedroom on a 35,000 ac. lake that is home to 5 world record fish, world record walleye(best eating fish in the world), Hybrid striped base, Brown Trout, Ozark Bass, Rock bass, my home will last another 100 years will your car , in town( town 15,765 ac. ie 20 sq miles population 2400 mostly woods and mountains) we have, deer, Turkeys, Black Baer, Coyotes, Bobcat, Fox Rabbits, and we can bow hunt in the city(only sissys hunt with guns) I can drive less than 50 mile and see some of the largest caves in the world, fly fish world class trout streams, Hunt deer elk bear turkeys
Cool story bro. Too bad no one gives a shit.
