I forgot where you can find it in the direct (edit - gameplay trailer), but there was a short image of mechs destroyed on a planet. So, at least we’ll see a model of it in game. Which makes me think that there will be some evidence of the colony war left in game (mech graveyards) and we’ll be able to visit those sites outside of just memorials.
It does make you wonder if they are adding battle mechs to the game with the fact two of them were shown in the last video. The art style is a form of Anime. With them doing these videos in this style one could get the idea that a animated series may come of this.

I liked how each video seemed to be about moving onto a better life for each character. The UC is about a guy who ditches his boring delivery job for action and adventure with the Vanguard. The Neon one has a person who is a petty thief living day by day getting to move to a more stable job/life with the big corporation that runs everything, and the Freestar one is about a woman getting the part she needs to fix up her ship to go off and have her own adventures. And each video is in what I assume is the spirit of each of those regions. Although I saw nothing wrong with being a delivery boy... yeah, I'm gonna do a Phillip J. Fry playthrough... and a Roger Wilco one.
I like the promos for this. I'd love for Bethesda to commission an animated series based on the game, but no hints as to the main quest - just something different. I love this style.
I think the 1st video was my favorite. Just shows that with a little determination and courage, you can be whoever you'd like to be. Just have to take that step out in faith. 👊😎
Man, the art style & animation in those promo shorts really reminds me of the classic sci-fi anime from the 80's & 90's, especially Uchuu Senkan Yamato (Star Blazers), and it does provide some interesting windows into the day to day of the 3 main factions.
I had a moment of awe during the second short, because I realized every one of these cities and locations are in the game. The entire galactic society is there to see and this has so much potential.
I got excited at that short as well .. The more I see these, The more I'm inclined to go "Imperial" on this first playthrough..iDK.. I really only did two playthroughs through Skyrim that lasted 10 years lol
Really loved the New Atlantis video. Hope they hinting we can own a apartment in the city. And the Akila City one had me on some Star Wars, Firefly vibes. Cannot wait and hope they start dropping more stuff.
Mechs make the most sense for the 1st iteration of ground vehicles. They are easily adapted to unexplored terrain, various gravity settings, and are just big people physics-wise.
The human body is not an efficient design for large-scale machines, not only because of balance issues, it could potentially collapse under its own weight. The energy required to move the large limbs and support the weight would be impractical. Mechs would, contrary to your belief, have difficulty navigating various terrains because of all of these reasons. Then there are the maintenance issues due to the intricacies of the construction. Repairs and maintenance would be intricate and time-consuming, potentially leaving them out of service for extended periods. All in all, mechs are the worst technical invention in sci-fi, and anyone with half a brain operating a successful science/futurism channel, from Isaac Arthur to the Templin Institute, will tell you that.

Again, my idea for your first day character is to find the faction that most fits your favorite type of sci-fi. Everyone joins Project Constellation (just like everyone has to go to Whiterun in Skyrim). If you like Star Trek, you need to start in New Atlantis/United Colonies. If you like Dune or Alien, go for Ryujin Industries. If you like Firefly or the Expanse, head for the Freestar Collective.
I think these are great, and I hope they do more. Of the three, I related most to the street rat one. Maybe they will help when it come to character creation.
That was probably the intention, to try and give you a better feel for the cities so you can make a better informed decision on if you'll pick one of the traits that align you to one or the other. One such trait is literally called neon street rat.

The Style I feel the closest vibes to is the Gundam Universe... which is a Party i've missed out on and only know of it what i've learned from play of a long long ago pal's copy of Gundam Musou 1 and a bit of 2... I felt the Gundam Vibes especially strongly with the Freestar Collective character... 9:30ish... ... now that ya mention it, are there more Flags here than in past Breakdown Vid Examination, or is my Memory failing to do its damn job again...? 12:45ish... Interesting thoughts. My impression was she was actually feeling sorry for the guy and his plight despite the life she's led to this point... as if she cares nothing about stealing from those better off than her (And I bet she'd be understandably bitter at those kinda people...) but people coming to harm might be another story. Her partner on the other hand... 12:47ish... I never noticed before till I had it paused right here long enough taking Ada in... am I imagining things, or is her Eye Color BLACK...? O_0 (Never tried making a Character with Black Eyes before...) 15:15ish... Honestly, i've long liked that strategy in regards to Morality. It can feel unrealistic when other Game Realms act like there's only one right way and everything else is wrong. Different points of view see things with a different line of sight. One person's "Right" can be another person's "Wrong", one person's "Hero" can be another person's "Anti-Hero", one person's perception of "being Innocent" can be another person's "You care about nothing..."... and so many other possible points of view. Games with Moral Choices are imho both funner and more realistic when the Black, the White, and the Shades of Grey are ALL in, for the full Spectrum. Nothing is simple in Life. 15:30ish... I agree wholeheartedly SS. Bethesda has some serious Marketing folks and they have bought into the "show, don't tell" story mantra. No dialogue required, it would just get in the way. Todd is purposely cheating here and pulling hard on our human core need to explore and experience wonderment at the universe. I am getting just a bit misty-eyed as I am SO looking forward to escaping our current world challenges for a few hours starting in September. I think we are all going to be surprised just how much heart and soul the Bethesda team has put into Starfield. Not expecting anything like perfection of course, but man! I am 59 and cannot remember the last time I was this excited for a game release. Great stuff man!
agreed, I think it's so difficult to tell a compelling story without dialogue, but if done well it can be soooo powerful. This has really inspired some of my short film ideas.

One thing that I noticed too, is that I like the concept of the Spaceship. Because, see in Skyrim, you only have your Followers to carry stuff for you -- only on foot and in a separate type of fashion, because I always was over-encumbered -- so I gave my burdens to my Minions. To help out, my Followers would carry the expensive weapons or prized armor; however, I'd carry the jewels because they got me money and were light to carry. Yet, in Starfield, you have your own ship that goes everywhere with you. I don't know if we've seen that in another RPG, such as how it is in SF. Because the Spaceship is its own little world. You can sleep there, research there, have your Followers there, etc. So, it's just like a House in Skyrim, but -- get this -- it moves and goes with you everywhere. So, it's similar to the experience that happened in Mass Effect, which I so loved. There were so much interaction and dialogue with ME1-3 where all of your shipmates gave you insights, thoughts, worries, concerns, fears, etc., as you were on the SS. Thus, I think that SF will really knock it out-of-the-park -- if your existence in the SS is something more than just transport. If the SS is anything more than a Horse in Skyrim, then they really have an unique experience for the player. Thus, the Spaceships are what I am really looking forward to. Not so much building them, but just existing in them and being able to carry my Followers with me.
The use of these short stories to build hype and lore of the game is ingenious!! Star-field is not just a world but a universe so by watching these you can imagine 1000s of similar and different stories being shared by millions of NPCs and also players. Any Star Wars fans out there might find this similar to Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi which is basically a few short story episodes which expand on lore or the Star Wars universe and I found these to be very creative and interesting so what Bethesda has done with these gets me excited for more adventures to come!!! 06/09/23 is the day!!! 😆😆😆😆
Its the players stories that make a Bethesda game and these cartoons are showing potential player stories. I love that they’re going all in on role playing and living out these personal fantasies.
I love them all! The third one resonated the most with me, though... I love the idea of hands-on repairing/refitting my own ship and making her spaceworthy. It's a classic trope! Where would the Serenity or the Millennium Falcon be if they just worked flawlessly all the time every time? Can you really claim to love a ship that never needs attention, never needs some TLC to keep her operational?
Pretty sure she's asking for a ship part instead of the credits from the older fellow in Where Hope is Built.... and personally, I kinda hoooope? that might be hinting at the possibility of requesting other forms of rewards in some side quests instead of just always credits... that would be a cool changeup of quest rewards. Don't wanna get my hopes up TOO much for it since it really could just be something they did for the story in the vid, but it would be cool.
Seeing the mech battle coupled with the one developer in the Starfield Direct turning her ship into a Mech has me thinking. We know there wont be standard vehicles right away, so it seems, but maybe there will be different mechs to obtain and store on the ship. What do you think about that?
Relatively sure "Volii" is pronounced Vohl-eye, not like a German saying Wally. And if it was meant to be Vol 2, it would be represented with the pair of i's in caps, or "Vol II". Really liked all of those. The Freestar Collective story was giving off strong Outlaw Star vibes.

So in Neon it's go from street kid to corpo. As for the Akila city kid is a newer twist on nomad. I imagine Neon is like a lite version of Night City, just as dirty and craptastic but your not struggling against the powerful to have a better life.
Seeing the mechs has me excited. Not because I want to pilot one, which don't get me wrong, it would be cool. But I doubt it will be a feature. But more because I hope we can fight one as a sort of boss? Would be so cool if you went out to raid a pirate outpost to get a bounty on some big pirate boss...clearing your way through the base until you get into a large hangar...only to be forced to dodge behind some crates as a hail of gunfire erupts in your direction from a mech that the pirates have slapped together/stolen. That being said, as much as I do hope its a thing, I am pretty sure it wont be. Still fun to think about regardless.
Each video is based on character builds before becoming player characters... The first is a Space trucker, the second is ruffians, the third is the character that has parents and have to send credits.
These were so epic. I also loved the art style and vibe of them all. I am even more excited for Starfield (if that was even possible) and also like you said I feel more emotionally invested haha.
I hope there are planets with large oceans. . . not sure if we've seen any yet. or jungle/forests either now that I think about it. Neon looked like a water world or at least on the coast somewhere, but again, I don't think we've seen places like this from in game footage yet, have we? Any proof we can go to this place, or is this just 'for story / world building' purposes? Most of the worlds we've seen appear to be rocky desert worlds, hope it doesn't stay that boring for long. I want to visit worlds like the Avatar movies!
These are all character creation stories, showing the character background you choose and 3 different options of how to start the game: Free Star Collective, United Colonies, or Neon (I think?). It's cool to see what those are. I thought everyone was going to have the same start.
Very unlikely these are starting points. Bethesda games always have one starting point, and gives you sandbox-level freedom to build your character whichever way you want, based on how you choose backgrounds and traits. These shorts are purely there for world building and potentially, introducing some key NPCs, given that they're named characters.
Possibly, but I really think they were trying to tell us something using three separate videos all telling basically the same story of someone leaving an unremarkable past for an adventuring future. This isn't simply an anthology. Each story is equivalent. Maybe they were influenced by Cyberpunk, which has three entry points, when it was still the next big thing? You would still have a choice of backgrounds and choose your path, but maybe you can also choose which settled system and major faction you start in. I do hope you are right, though.

You can sleep there, research there, have your Followers there, etc. So, it's just like a House in Skyrim, but -- get this -- it moves and goes with you everywhere. So, it's similar to the experience that happened in Mass Effect, which I so loved. There were so much interaction and dialogue with ME1-3 where all of your shipmates gave you insights, thoughts, worries, concerns, fears, etc., as you were on the SS. Thus, I think that SF will really knock it out-of-the-park -- if your existence in the SS is something more than just transport. If the SS is anything more than a Horse in Skyrim, then they really have an unique experience for the player.
Thus, the Spaceships are what I am really looking forward to. Not so much building them, but just existing in them and being able to carry my Followers with me.
The use of these short stories to build hype and lore of the game is ingenious!! Star-field is not just a world but a universe so by watching these you can imagine 1000s of similar and different stories being shared by millions of NPCs and also players. Any Star Wars fans out there might find this similar to Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi which is basically a few short story episodes which expand on lore or the Star Wars universe and I found these to be very creative and interesting so what Bethesda has done with these gets me excited for more adventures to come!!! 06/09/23 is the day!!! 😆😆😆😆

Small stories are always welcomed. They allow you to see the lore in action.
Its the players stories that make a Bethesda game and these cartoons are showing potential player stories. I love that they’re going all in on role playing and living out these personal fantasies.
I love them all! The third one resonated the most with me, though... I love the idea of hands-on repairing/refitting my own ship and making her spaceworthy. It's a classic trope! Where would the Serenity or the Millennium Falcon be if they just worked flawlessly all the time every time? Can you really claim to love a ship that never needs attention, never needs some TLC to keep her operational?

Pretty sure she's asking for a ship part instead of the credits from the older fellow in Where Hope is Built.... and personally, I kinda hoooope? that might be hinting at the possibility of requesting other forms of rewards in some side quests instead of just always credits... that would be a cool changeup of quest rewards. Don't wanna get my hopes up TOO much for it since it really could just be something they did for the story in the vid, but it would be cool.
Seeing the mech battle coupled with the one developer in the Starfield Direct turning her ship into a Mech has me thinking. We know there wont be standard vehicles right away, so it seems, but maybe there will be different mechs to obtain and store on the ship. What do you think about that?
I hope so. Jetpacking is sick but I'ma need something a bit more absolute than that. A hover bike would be enough for me

Relatively sure "Volii" is pronounced Vohl-eye, not like a German saying Wally. And if it was meant to be Vol 2, it would be represented with the pair of i's in caps, or "Vol II".

So in Neon it's go from street kid to corpo. As for the Akila city kid is a newer twist on nomad.
I imagine Neon is like a lite version of Night City, just as dirty and craptastic but your not struggling against the powerful to have a better life.

Id like to see some sort of iteration of the karma system. I think that would absolutely be appropriate in this title.
I think each of the three videos reflects the three faction based backgrounds, UC Colonist,Street Rat, and FSC Settler,respectively.
Now I want a Starfield cartoon series after seeing these.

Seeing the mechs has me excited. Not because I want to pilot one, which don't get me wrong, it would be cool. But I doubt it will be a feature. But more because I hope we can fight one as a sort of boss?
Would be so cool if you went out to raid a pirate outpost to get a bounty on some big pirate boss...clearing your way through the base until you get into a large hangar...only to be forced to dodge behind some crates as a hail of gunfire erupts in your direction from a mech that the pirates have slapped together/stolen. That being said, as much as I do hope its a thing, I am pretty sure it wont be. Still fun to think about regardless.

Each video is based on character builds before becoming player characters... The first is a Space trucker, the second is ruffians, the third is the character that has parents and have to send credits.

Most of the worlds we've seen appear to be rocky desert worlds, hope it doesn't stay that boring for long.

These are all character creation stories, showing the character background you choose and 3 different options of how to start the game: Free Star Collective, United Colonies, or Neon (I think?). It's cool to see what those are. I thought everyone was going to have the same start.
Very unlikely these are starting points. Bethesda games always have one starting point, and gives you sandbox-level freedom to build your character whichever way you want, based on how you choose backgrounds and traits.
These shorts are purely there for world building and potentially, introducing some key NPCs, given that they're named characters.
Possibly, but I really think they were trying to tell us something using three separate videos all telling basically the same story of someone leaving an unremarkable past for an adventuring future. This isn't simply an anthology. Each story is equivalent. Maybe they were influenced by Cyberpunk, which has three entry points, when it was still the next big thing?
You would still have a choice of backgrounds and choose your path, but maybe you can also choose which settled system and major faction you start in.
