    Grayscale to color is a smart way to work. Value > Hue for humans

    I'm struggling to find a work flow myself. I made a bunch of character animations in Illustrator but they are each their own frame/drawings. I've done this because I then rasterize them as bitmap sprites for my video game. Giving my animation a sort of hand drawn look even though I did it in illustrator. But I want to start making animations for video instead of games and I want to keep my frame by frame workflow. But I am having a difficult time finding a workflow that is efficient for this. I basically need something that is effectively "illustrator with frame animations". I've looked into Open Toons and Adobe Animate but the workflow just isn't as smooth as I want it. I haven't messed with After Effects that much... at least not for this purpose.

    Have you looked into Bendio at all? It's by the same folks behind Limber. I think it'd be really helpful for things like hands-the Bendio plugin trailer even has a hand example in it.

      Good question. Duplicate the composition, CC Slant effect, fill effect for color, then cropped it for the back wall.

    I have learned from zero about Illustrator and AE on UA-cam since last month. I have to create some simple animation scenes for my documentary to demonstrate social injustice. I have a silly question, from 2:36 to 3:59, do you need to create a different layer for each part of the body and face that will move? For example, you will create a layer to draw a head with hair, a layer for eyes, a layer for mouth, etc. so that you can work on layers in AE? Thank you so much in advance.

    • @hang3stitan138
      @hang3stitan138 Місяць тому

      yeah you do! which even more proves that storyboards and detailed plans come in hand, because each layer you will animate, needs to be on its own layer in Illustrator BEFORE you import it into after effects!

    This video is super great. I want to ask you something, do you think do we need to have drawing skills for these kind of videos? I mean I can't draw my own character, so I subscribed a platform to download&use characters etc. Do you think I should learn how to draw the character on Illustrator? Thanks!

    • @deanmaj
      @deanmaj Рік тому

      Personally, I think being able to illustrate your own characters would be a big plus, as it gives you a lot of control and flexibility over the animation process, especially when you have to make minor tweaks and illustrations in after effects.

    I want to buy LIMBER but I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO INSTALL IT.
    I posted this previously. Could you please release a video on how to install LIMBER into AFTER EFFECTS 2023. I am using a WINDOWS 10 DELL PC to run AFTER EFFECTS 2023 included in my CREATIVE CLOUD subscription. I am still learning After Effects and yes I do subscribe to your channel. I am considering using the link you provided in an earlier video to purchase the LIMBER plug in. I have no idea how to install it. There is only one dodgy video with no narration that exists here on UA-cam. The website for LIMBER does NOT have instructions. THANKS

      @TheKeyframeAcademy  2 роки тому

      Hi,
      When you purchase Limber it comes with instructions on how to install it.
      It is similar to installing other scripts for After Effects. You simply copy the 'Limber.jsxbin' file into the scriptsUI folder in your After Effects directory. Hope this helps. Thanks!

    Creating in Illustrator to recreate in After Effects, I never understood that

    • @TheKeyframeAcademy
      @TheKeyframeAcademy  25 днів тому +1

      1. You're not "recreating" in After Effects. If you're using something like Overlord (as I did in this video), you are just moving artwork from one program to the other.
      2. After Effects has drawing tools, but they are not as sophisticated as the tools available in a Illustrator. I can create illustrations at 10x the speed than if I were to do everything in After Effects. Plus illustrator has tools that don't even exist in After Effects that make drawing easier. (ie shape builder tool).

    Let's say I have *ten characters* that involve *four different views* each. I'm looking at 40 different characters total. At 30 layers per character, that's *1200 layers* floating on my main composition's timeline! ... If I pre-compose each character, the layer count gets knocked down to 40, but then I'm forced to animate them "in the dark" because I can't see what's happening on the main comp's timeline while editing them. ...... Suggestions?

    • @TheKeyframeAcademy
      @TheKeyframeAcademy  Рік тому +1

      Use DUIK's extraction feature, where you can extract controllers from a pre-comp. If you own rubberhose, it has a similar tool.

    • @0-by-1_Publishing_LLC
      @0-by-1_Publishing_LLC Рік тому

      @@TheKeyframeAcademy Thanks for the speedy reply. I'm using Limber due to my version of After Effects being lesser than version 2021. I'll research what you've mentioned, though.

    • @TheKeyframeAcademy
      @TheKeyframeAcademy  Рік тому +1

      @@0-by-1_Publishing_LLC I go over the feature in this video: ua-cam.com/video/NqQhEzSXFhs/v-deo.html
      You can use DUIK's extract controllers feature with Limber, you just have to label the control layers as controllers so DUIK know what to extract.
      Also, Rubberhose 3 claims to be compatible with Limber, but I haven't tested it out to see if anything breaks.

      Anyway, I have been struggling with one thing in limber, I make Whiteboard Animations (and plan to make my characters to come to life after being drawn) and I have a character with stroke and white fill only, and sometimes, the strokes don't line up perfectly and it creates a very weird effect...Can you do one tutorial on whiteboard characters?
      Just create any character with white fill and black strokes, that will be a lot of help, been struggling a lot with this...
