I'm struggling to find a work flow myself. I made a bunch of character animations in Illustrator but they are each their own frame/drawings. I've done this because I then rasterize them as bitmap sprites for my video game. Giving my animation a sort of hand drawn look even though I did it in illustrator. But I want to start making animations for video instead of games and I want to keep my frame by frame workflow. But I am having a difficult time finding a workflow that is efficient for this. I basically need something that is effectively "illustrator with frame animations". I've looked into Open Toons and Adobe Animate but the workflow just isn't as smooth as I want it. I haven't messed with After Effects that much... at least not for this purpose.
Have you looked into Bendio at all? It's by the same folks behind Limber. I think it'd be really helpful for things like hands-the Bendio plugin trailer even has a hand example in it.
I have learned from zero about Illustrator and AE on UA-cam since last month. I have to create some simple animation scenes for my documentary to demonstrate social injustice. I have a silly question, from 2:36 to 3:59, do you need to create a different layer for each part of the body and face that will move? For example, you will create a layer to draw a head with hair, a layer for eyes, a layer for mouth, etc. so that you can work on layers in AE? Thank you so much in advance.
This video is super great. I want to ask you something, do you think do we need to have drawing skills for these kind of videos? I mean I can't draw my own character, so I subscribed a platform to download&use characters etc. Do you think I should learn how to draw the character on Illustrator? Thanks!
Personally, I think being able to illustrate your own characters would be a big plus, as it gives you a lot of control and flexibility over the animation process, especially when you have to make minor tweaks and illustrations in after effects.
I want to buy LIMBER but I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO INSTALL IT. I posted this previously. Could you please release a video on how to install LIMBER into AFTER EFFECTS 2023. I am using a WINDOWS 10 DELL PC to run AFTER EFFECTS 2023 included in my CREATIVE CLOUD subscription. I am still learning After Effects and yes I do subscribe to your channel. I am considering using the link you provided in an earlier video to purchase the LIMBER plug in. I have no idea how to install it. There is only one dodgy video with no narration that exists here on UA-cam. The website for LIMBER does NOT have instructions. THANKS
Hi, When you purchase Limber it comes with instructions on how to install it. It is similar to installing other scripts for After Effects. You simply copy the 'Limber.jsxbin' file into the scriptsUI folder in your After Effects directory. Hope this helps. Thanks!
GAAAAAH! Ok, ok, okaaaaay! I get it....DUIK = bad; Limber = good. And now I get to dive into a deep cavern of "I don't know what the %@#$ I'm doing here!"
I do have a course that just opened enrollment that will get you going! Much better alternative than searching the bottomless pit of UA-cam for the right tutorials. Link is in the description!
Let's say I have *ten characters* that involve *four different views* each. I'm looking at 40 different characters total. At 30 layers per character, that's *1200 layers* floating on my main composition's timeline! ... If I pre-compose each character, the layer count gets knocked down to 40, but then I'm forced to animate them "in the dark" because I can't see what's happening on the main comp's timeline while editing them. ...... Suggestions?
@@TheKeyframeAcademy Thanks for the speedy reply. I'm using Limber due to my version of After Effects being lesser than version 2021. I'll research what you've mentioned, though.
@@0-by-1_Publishing_LLC I go over the feature in this video: ua-cam.com/video/NqQhEzSXFhs/v-deo.html You can use DUIK's extract controllers feature with Limber, you just have to label the control layers as controllers so DUIK know what to extract. Also, Rubberhose 3 claims to be compatible with Limber, but I haven't tested it out to see if anything breaks.

Thank you so much for sharing your workflow, I would be interested how many hours and days it took you from start to finish?
Oh, man. Toe fingers animation is so satisfying
Mind blowing ! Happy to find your channel and I believe there is much to learn from you ! Thanks !

Can you do a tutorial on animating multiple characters
Great stuff!
Great video, how did you do the shadow for the character?
Good question. Duplicate the composition, CC Slant effect, fill effect for color, then cropped it for the back wall.
so nice, i'm used to duik for limbs, but i may try using limber
DUik is great, Limber is better :) (IMO)
Thanks for sharing
Amazing! I'm new to Ae and I'd like to know how many hrs it takes to create this illustration+animation? 😅
Thanks for sharing, really interesting! How’d you get on with Tilda, would you recommend?
amazing
how do big companies come up with the backgrounds for the animated shows
Why do you work separately by pre-composing only your face when you do character animation?

so u always have to re-draw your character... is there a plugin that makes your rig a character directly from your illustrator layers? PLS
No, you don't have to redraw your characters everytime.

Use DUIK's extraction feature, where you can extract controllers from a pre-comp. If you own rubberhose, it has a similar tool.
