Now this something very special. The "Jerusalem Gaude" is beyond inspirational. This going on my every Christmas music rotation. Jesus is smiling down on all who are listening to this masterpiece.
Thanks so much for uploading this album. I enjoy all the albums you feature, but this one has special meaning for me. I have a second hand copy I acquired 30 years ago; at one point I even made an audio cassette off my copy, but the sound on my album has a lot more issues so I am very glad you included this. It's also great to have the music from the accompanying books. I knew there was such a book (though I didn't realize it ran to three volumes) but I don't have a copy of it. I like almost all types of Christmas music, but especially the traditional carols and hymns. Also, I find the history of Christmas traditions in different countries fascinating, so you can see why I think this album is very special. Thanks again!
I received this recording and the books that go with it as a Christmas gift 60 years ago, I still have them but the record is trashed from being played so much by a child. I’m delighted to have found this on UA-cam.
My mom got this LP/book set when it first came out, and I was fascinated by its variety of musical styles, especially lesser known carols like "The Angel Gabriel," "Coventry Carol," and "Huron Indian Carol." As a grade-schooler, I must have absorbed much of this album by osmosis. After 40+ years, it is nice to hear it again in HQ audio.
The Coventry carol became my favorite Christmas carol listening to this album back in the early '70s. Of course by then there were a lot of scratches and pops, which I have memorized. It's awesome to hear all the carols without them. I love the Boar's Head and patapan. All of side two is great.
Me too!! I can still sing many of these songs from heart!! I loved the books that came with it, I spent so much time pouring through them cover to cover!
Some minor audio issues. A nice presentation as one would expect from Time-Life. The Life Christmas record accompanied a three Christmas book set. This one shows us some historical examples of christian Christmas worship and a nice swath of Christmas traditions passed down. The music sheets you see in this video were scanned from the 3 Life Christmas book set for this video. Cheers!
@@lawrencephelps3181 I found the books that accompany the records a couple of years ago and it is a well rounded history of Christmas. Not sure if they are still in print. I might do a complete project for next year. Cheers!
The record is a companion to the "LIFE Book of Christmas" 3 volume set. You can find those complete on this channel. You can search under videos or type: The LIFE Book of Christmas

There were three historical Christmas books as a set.

Likewise, I'm curious about old traditions and the history of this great event that we celebrate!

Glad you enjoy!
I like the Coventry Carol and Angels we have heard on high on this one. Great post, thank you!
I like the "unplugged" feel this one has.

It's a good set. Three books are part of the set and they include much history and background.

I listened to this so much it is in my bones. (I am Jewish.)

I love the sentimental traditional Christmas music, and also the sacred traditional Christian Christmas music!! Well done, friend.
Glad you enjoy Charles!
Ma played this album and I knew Christmas season had arrived.
