It's not anyone's but everyone's fault that we have created an abundance of reliable or unreliable humans. Sometime we rely on each other. But we shall never exploit each other.

As a young person I've lost so many of my peers to the wars over seas, incarceration and death from the war on drugs, gun violence, completely preventable diseases, suicide, and drug over doses at epidemic levels. I can't help but feel this country has failed my generation. Looking back when I graduated from highschool for the vast majority of us going to war was the best option we had. Furthermore our plight has always been disregarded and marginalized by my elders and generally speaking most baby boomers I've had the displeasure of knowing.

I only wish the boomers would live long enough to see the collapse so that we may feast on their spoils, and that they as a generation in mass would be confronted with the most unpleasant reality and truth that we all live in and embrace to our very core. Unable to deny our existence and hardships as they have done our entire lives.

That every four to five years we need new trendy clothing styles and beliefs unconnected to the harsh reality of life. Hundreds of years ago everyone believed mostly the same dressed the same looked out for each other the same.. now every couple years the tv movies and music tell our children how to be Kool and how to dress how to act creating constant division. When Katrina hit, I was working in So Cal in a mall. I had only see the damage and the people affected in the news. One day this man came into the clothing store I worked at with his daughter, she must have been about 5 - 6 years old. He looked so serious and blanked face. He bought hundreds of dollars in clothes (it was about $600). I was ringing him up and said jokingly something like "you got enough clothes here to last you for years to come", he replied "This is every thing I own now besides my car. Hurricane Katrina took everything and my home, this money is aid relief"... I felt like such a fucking idiot. Also, felt very bad for him and realized why he looked so serious and blank. I hope they are doing ok now. I can't imagine having a child and having nothing to wear, no where to stay, and relying on govt. aid.

Hurricane Katrina, I remember school had just started a few days before this in Florida and we were all so stoked that school was gonna be out for another week or two. None of us realized what was coming. I lived in Central Florida so we never got the worst of the hurricanes but we still got a lot of damage/flooding. In my opinion, Hurricane Charley was much worse for Florida but Katrina was still bad. It was nothing compared to what happened to New Orleans. Being out of electricity for weeks was the worst in Florida. Youd open your window and turn a fan on (if youre a real Floridian, you have a generator) but when youd wake up your whole room would be filled with mist and all the fabrics would be damp from the mist. It was such a disgusting feeling. See at this time, my friends and I were huge skate rats so we rode our skateboards around all day and would go skate in the Publix parking lot for hours.

Something that makes me even more sick is that Americans still don’t have access to proper healthcare. The USA is the world last remaining superpower and has the best technology on earth and that means also the best medical technology and yet its citizens die of diseases that are preventable and curable because they don’t have access to insurance. I am not a socialist or a communist but it’s time for the USA to give its people good healthcare and people from all classes should have access to decent, modern and safe healthcare. The war on terror lasted 20 years, achieved nothing because the Taliban took over Afghanistan in a matter of weeks and the war cost 8 trillion dollars. The USA has truly become the United States of Absurdity. To say that the military was not, involved in search and rescue efforts in a big way is a stretch of the truth, we really need to discuss how the local and state government COMPLETELY dropped the ball on this tragedy as well as the Federal government taking its sweet time to take over and help people. The Army National Guard, Active Duty Army, and USCG conducted non stop rescue missions as well as food and water distribution, welfare checks, and took over law enforcement functions when local governments failed to do their job. They remained in the home despite pleas to evacuate, during a lull in the middle of the storm all heard a very loud vessel start after it started the vessel revved up the engine a couple of times and then accelerate to a high RPM. The ground shook twice as if the levee was rammed into. 10 minutes after feeling the ground shake again for the third time the entire seventh ward neighborhood flooded with dank sea water and rose to just about roof level. The residents who remained (despite warnings to evacuate) either climbed up in the attic or got on the roof. Then remained there avoiding the nasty water, and fought off the mosquitos and critters, rescuing other survivors and pets. If some arms corporation needs money, we have plenty for that because those companies give kickbacks to your congressman. If Americans are dying, we can't afford to help them.

If the army corps of engineers cannot maintain their waterways they need to have some sort of delegation agreement to a credit local or corporate bodies to ensure the safety of people with someway to ensure it is done properly possibly with threats of punitive damages. Of course we can’t sue the army and why would we, but if they can’t step up their game they need to let go of their internal resources that they cannot manage
