Norway’s Brand Crush: 4 State-Owned Surprises
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 чер 2024
- Learn more about Norwegians' deep relationship with the state. We love it so much that the 4 most adored brands in Norway are all state-owned. They crush the global giants. Yourway2Norway dates all four in this self-deprecating and informative video. But only one can get Ronald's rose. At the same time, you get a unique insight into the everyday life of a western, liberal, modern and democratic country that sometimes looks a lot like a good old communist regime.
In this satirical and revealing video, you get an understanding about what Norwegians think, feel, value and want in life. It turns out that the state satisfies all our unconscious longings and dreams, in addition to the more functional ones such as health care, education and transport. This is an essential video if you live in Norway, study here, work with Norwegians, are with a Norwegian, have relatives in Norway or are generally interested in Norwegian habits, norms, traditions and culture.
You get to know what we eat and drink. Why we love to travel in state luxury. Which media brand we trust the most and why we like to be controlled and limited by the state.
Thanks to Rema 1000 Lakkegata / Oslo for being awesome. Always.
Thanks to Flytoget / Oslo Airport Express Train for being cool and service minded.
Thanks to Vinmonopolet Markveien / Oslo for always being sporty, kind and acting along with us.

What's your relationship to your state?
The state is run by people. It's one of those career categories that attracts psychopathic personality types who enjoy having control over others. At least in Norway, it's easier to personally know your politicians, whereas in the US, they're usually rich people who live in gated communities, and at the national level, they are hundreds or thousands of miles away. Currently, we have a federal government that doesn't allow dissent from political opponents. Need I say more?
I'ld rather be in Tromso than Canada
Living in another Nordic country I too trust the state although less and less. I hate that politics has become a job more than working towards improving our country.
Ugh - I live in the USA. On the federal level, our politics have devolved into the completely ludicrous. I don't want to vote for any of the available candidates, anymore. Not much better on the state level, imo. Local and regional are a mixed bag.
In Pennsylvania the state (commonwealth) runs "the state stores," which are the alcohol shops. The state even has its own wine brand.
Everything you need to know about Norway is on this channel. Don't bother with history books or travel guides, just watch all the content on this channel and you'll be an expert on Norwegian culture, and history. Guaranteed.
Thanks for being awesome and very motivating. We appreciate every word!
Glad you and Mads are back!
Don't make us wait another 2 months for the next video...PLEASE!
Best Channel EVER
Glad to see you guys again. I hope to see you back soon.
It appears that Regimes are becoming quite popular around the world over the last few years.
In Ohio we state liquor stores, but you can buy wine in any supermarket, gas station and even a drive thru
In my town there is a liquor store in a supermarket.
Is it luxury?
It becomes luxurious when you guys arrive!
The production quality of your videos is really cool lately too!
Thanks!
Ron and Mads get an entire bouquet of roses! We love you guys! Subwoolfer though. They deserve flowers too or at least a matpakke consolation prize.
Here in Quebec Canada (and in each province) the state owns the the liquor stores. They are well run, but I have always felt a bit uncomfortable with the concept that the government collects money for selling what is really a drug...... Loved this video! I miss you guys so much between videos!! I have Norwegian ancestry so your videos bring me a bit closer to my roots :)
We also have CBC - state owned broadcaster!
I'm in the US (East Coast) and where I live wine and beer and mixers can be bought in supermarkets. But the state controls the liquor stores and local municipalities do the ordering and selling--and get money and I guess pay the state some part of it. Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) stores are in several states I have been to. Yet if you go out west, I've seen liquor in the Walmart (New Mexico). So I guess it's state controlled. Strange laws. :)
In AB it's a regular business model, the province doesn't own the stores. (you know Loblaws had to get in on it, so Real Canadian Liquorstore exists)
@@incensejunkie7516not in every province, in Quebec you can only get liquor at SAQ, which is a government run liquor agency. Same for Ontario you can get wine and beer at a very small number of grocery stores but the majority of things you can only get at the LCBO which is run by the government. The beer store is not run by the government but large brewing companies and is also available in Ontario. in Quebec weed can only be bought from the SQDC which is also a government run store.
On an unrelated note, salute to Norway in their fight to ban male-circumcision. 🍺
So happy to see both of you back on the channel. Sheeze, it feels like it's been forever!!! Anyhoo, love you both and I really enjoyed the video. Happy Valentine's Day Ronald and Mads, all the way from North Richland Hills, Tx. 🤠❤
LOL in the USA there are certain states that do the same thing. State run shops to buy alcohol. I enjoy wine but collect Bourbon, love bourbon.
I knew who the winner would be even before you mentioned the first brand 😄. And I've only been to Norway once. But it has it's international fame ☺
Your UA-cam channel is hilarious 😂
The graphic art was FANTASTIC!!! (Who did the drawings?) You just upped the game by a huuuuge leap.
Who can possibly choose between milk and alcohol? Insane! I love them both.
Thx a ton. It was me with a little help of custom instructed chat gpt, dall e :) Best Mads 😊
My favourite couple is back! ~ Yay! Hope you guys had a happy Valentine's Day! ~ XO
Always so happy to see another video from you guys! I hope to move to Norway one day (from the southeastern US), and your videos always make me want to move even more. Do you think you might ever do another video about the Norwegian language? I'm trying to learn Bokmål and the grammar rules are very interesting (and make much more sense than English). It would also be really cool to see the average Norwegian's opinion of black metal. Tusen takk, og jeg håper vi får se en ny video fra dere snart!
Good format, enjoyed the final interview. You should do more interviews with random people
Well done gentlemen. A masterpiece of wit and charm.
Happy Valentine's. I honestly was just missing you both. Thought about you yesterday, and here you are. Your videos are fun and informative. I don't think state restricted consumption of alcohol would go well in the US. Of course we have hours of operation. In the positive side for you, looks like you have the best selection of wines from all over the world already done for you. Do they limit only to wine?
Woop woop! Anotjer video!! :)
I thought Norwegian passenger service, such as Vy, is now all privatized now.
I love NRK's concert videos. (And that 4 season Bergen to Bodø train journey set back on the anniversary year of the Bergen line).
The ending - LOL! At least, while you are in the store, you can buy what you want. I learned that one must have an alcohol card stamped in Svalbard, with a monthly limit. No ability to overindulge there!
Happy to see you back. Enjoy your humor.
New video :D ❤❤❤ perfect timing
You two boys are so cute. You must have so much fun making these videos. You have made me decide to try and order your weird brown cheese and have it delivered to Australia. I did a DNA test and got the results last week, and I'm 5% Norwegian so maybe I will like it - but the 95% of me that is Scottish/English/Irish might hate it :D PS. Our government-owned Australian Broadcasting Corporation is the most trusted source of news in Australia too. They have the most interesting TV shows.
So awkward when he kicked you out... I love it.
I want to live in Norway but I would have to do my grocery shopping in a neighboring country. I hope Norway has excellent language tutors.
Haha, Sweden is your answer. Welcome to Norway
Keep up the great work, love seeing your videos! 📹
Tine is cooperative owned by around 15,000 farmers. It is not state owned.
We know, so we call it "heavy subsidized brand" in the video
Q er mer subsidiert en Tine pr liter melk
I live in Nevada in the USA and you can buy alcohol here 24/7 at any supermarket, gas station, convenience store etc. But you have to go to specific dispensaries to buy the green smokable stuff legally lol
Entertaining video, thanks, I must be careful or I might learn something, as we say in West Texas, that’ll learn yea.
In New Orleans you can buy alcohol anytime in the drugstore, which is both a pharmacy and a convenience shop!
Another clever video 💕
If I had to go to one particular store to get wine, I would never drink any. It’s too much of a hassle to go to a separate store for that. But love is love, so I wish you all the best with your love, although she kicked you out! ❤ I love your new backpack, by the way, Ronald! And Mads, it’s great that we hear more from you as well, even if it’s in the background!
I'm loving in it, its super great video making its feels like art and i wish in time where my company and what i do will be known in Norway then it will be my dream to make something together with you guys :D great actor skills and this super specific humor which you can see living here :D
I live in Alberta Canada, not of Norwegiann heritage, but 3 of my grandparents were from Sweden, have been there once to meet my father's first cousins. In Alberta our liquor laws were changed so that you can usually buy liquor until about 0200h. Not so in all other provinces, in the USA you can purchase beer and some mixed drinks even in 24h conveniance stores. Love your programs, always look forward to new ones.
Impressive presentation fellas!
In Canada, liquor is also under the control of the government. Each province has its own liquor boards and liquor laws. For instance, in Québec, you can legally buy and consume alcohol at 18, whereas in Ontario, you have to be 19 years old. We can buy beer and wine at grocery stores and in corner stores, but the wine is not the best quality. For liquor and good wines, we have to go to the SAQ (Société des alcools du Québec). They are opened 7 days a week, same hours as regular stores. 😊
"The ceiling is nice" must be the most damning comment you can make about a luxury train. 😂
Your video was a lot of fun. You are witty and funny. ❤
Tine is a Co-operative. State dont have any ownership.
Spring...warm...🥰
The luxurious airport express is one thing I didn't experience. I was in Oslo for a tradeshow and I had free public transportation included in my exhibitor pass. Just the regular trains, though.
Still I'm very fond of it, cause I got a couple of the vouchers for the express train you can get at the Oslo station. You are supposed to board with them and pay at your destination, if you can't use your card at the ticketing machines at departure.
They look just like tickets, price and all, so... I put them in my expense note. 😉
The money I got out of that little trick paid for a nice, warm jumper I took as a souvenir.
A jumper I've found at an excellent price, in a shop that was suggested in one of the videos from this channel!
I love you guys! ❤
I like the wooden seats. Very nice touch!
Excellent, s😂 happy to see another vlog
You two guys are great.
Canadians are also very loyal to Canadian milk.
I’ve seen many NRK television shows. They’re great. We have a privately owned railway in the UK and it’s ridiculous expensive and is never on time. The carriages are also grotty and dirty.
This is the best ❤
Your graphics are so nice and witty
So good to see you two again❤❤I missed you! In Virgina, they have the state controlled ABC stores(Alchoholic Beverage Control) that sell hard liquor. They have store hours. I'm ok with it, though some think it stupid. You can get beer and wine in grocery stores. Look forward to seeing you soon!🌹
We've missed you!
Very interesting. I'm from the USA. Guess Norway is accustomed to a monoploy on liquor. Thanks much. Salute 🥂
The liquor monopoly is kinda the same in Sweden and Finland as well.
In Finland we are the most liberated from our alcohol monopoly, as our regular retail shops have the longest hours for alcoholic beverage sales, and can sell the highest alc.vol. drinks, but STILL we have to get our wines and spirits from the specialized alcohol monopoly stores (Alko).
But we have great opposition to this practise, and I'm quite certain that pretty soon at least regular wines will be a grocery store commodity.
The Alko stores are already situated under the same roof with markets and in malls, but the problem is that they are too few and far between.
in usa, in washington (not DC), i am very satisfied with the way my life is. for now, at least.
Very good video guys ,good content. One question turned up in my mind : Do these "4 state owned brands" doing well still or they are struggling ?
The airport express train is struggling a bit. Since they lost their monopoly. So politicians are talking about merging it with the other state brand Vy, the "green train"
I enjoy going on Bourbon making/tasting tours in Kentucky. But you make Norway look enticing in every video!
In Sweden it's the same with "Systembolaget", the alcohol stores run by the Swedish government. In Sweden you can buy folköl (peoples beer) in the grocery stores but it's below 3% or 4% alcohol content. Whenever I take a trip on one of the Baltic ferries in Sweden it's entertaining to see how much alcohol people by from the duty free shops on the boats. I've literally seen cars driving off the ferries with cases of beer and booze stacked to the roof. The ferry between Helsingborg Sweden and Helsingør Denmark is 20 minutes long, I think its only purpose is for Swedes and Danes to buy cheap alcohol.
❤❤❤❤❤ it’s complicated!
All the mooing in the beginning 😂
Our state couldnt run a hot dog van at the moment. I think I will just give my rose to my cat. Our country,to use a Norwegian word in an English phrase has gone spen-up! Or tits-up in English.
When are y'all getting your show on NRK?
Great video today guys! One comment, I prefer with less AI images and more of you Mads + Ronald :)
Mads and Ronald ❤🌹
Um abraço do Algarve !
Muito obrigado. Grande abraço da nevada Oslo de volta!
Nice graphics. Missed your sparkling wit and humor. Around here the most Norwegian thing I find is sardines.
Alcohol is for everyone now please go away haha!
I’d love to see more interviews incorporated into the videos
Thank you State 🐻
I remember when I moved to Norway 4 years ago from Germany I thought I had come to North Korea, which I had never been to.
Can you make a video about selling house or rent?
I have family there. You guys are very funny to me and I can understand that some people there are pissed off at you. The last time I was there I was tired of hearing the complaints about the highest standards of living in the world. Can you do a show about the “moonshine “ . Like the wall of sugar bags and cakes of yeast at the rural grocery stores . Or is that a shhhhh? Hade fra USA.
Happy your Happy. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yourway2norway can you do a syden video in Asia?
At the beginning, I thougt you would give the rose to Vinmonopolet.😊
Edit: and you did 😊
I didn't mind the Tine brand, but the food in Norway is the absolute worst I've ever experienced. After 10 days, I felt malnourished, and I'm not a big eater. WORST FOOD EVER.
@NordicSami- this explains why there is so much less obesity than here in the US. Of course, it's better to be on a flight with a thin Norwegian, given the size of airline seats, these days.
Somebody's in love 💕
Ronald, please please tell me you washed your hands after touching that toilet seat lid! In the video you went straight to the seats! 🤢 I love you anyway, you funny man, og Mads å.
Tine is not state owned. This is cooperative model company, owned by the farmers.
Statoil not on your list? Lol
I thought it would be too!
Love you guys ❤❤❤ 🇬🇧 ❤❤❤
Polet....I knew it!
I'm kind of a reverse Norwegian - I'm chatty, friendly and fun while sober and get reserved and depressed while drunk 🤣 Unlikely I will ever visit Vinmonopolet if I manage a visit to Norway...but can certainly understand why it would be your first choice.
Me? I'll take that train VROOM VROOM 🤩
❤
The Norwegian state provides good services for the people of Norway. Be grateful for what you have Norway, you will miss it if it goes. Greetings from 🇬🇧
Given the controls on alcohol, are rates of diabetes and alcoholism exceedingly low, or do people cross borders to stockpile alcohol?
Me❤❤❤South Africa
I thught Tine was a co-op owned by the dairy farmers of Norway. Are you sure it is state owned?
You are absolutely right, at the same time the coop (owned by farmers and consumers) heavily subsidized by the state, as Ronald says. Best Mads :)
You compllain? In Italy the State owns television, radio, railroads, tobacco
In the Netherlands the state has all her monopolies sold to the free market, so everything got worse and more expensive but hey, it is progress! 😢
I think a lot of people don't trust the state anymore because they have really made awful decisions. For instance we have earthquakes in the north of our country due to gas drilling. They have built a skyskraper high administration confusion (think Kafka!) but they can't compensate the people with ruined houses.
Also they have send a lot of people into debt and despair because they had to pay back the compensation they had gotten for childcare, because they were wrongly accused of fraude. But it were the daycare centers who had committed the fraude. Also in this case the state doesn't succeed in reparing their mistakes.
Very interesting to learn Anka. In Norway, we have several political parties on the right who want to sell these companies to private parties. But there is not a majority for this - and Norwegians bristle when the discussion comes up. Thanks for sharing!
Tine is not owned by the state! Its 100% farmer owned. Owned by 10.000 small farmers from all of Norway.
I'm fine with taxation of tobacco and alcool, I would put on the label even how much tax money from them was used the previous year to cure diseases caused by them. I just hope, since I'm planning to come to Norway to live, that the state doesn't go full commie like the WEF likes: no meat, no private cars, no privacy, no property of any kind... How many chances are that it will happen in the near or distant future? Greetings from Italy.
We are capitalistic too ;) Welcome to Norway
@@YOURWAY2NORWAY Yep, I know, the problem is that in the dystopian future those bright minds are planning for us "you will own nothing and be happy", to quote them verbatim, so someone - them - will own everything. Capitalism for them, socialism/communism for us.
But not everything is going according to their plans, and in the previous mass craziness monarchies managed it better then so called democracies. So I've really high hopes for Norway and my life there.
Sorry for such a serious comment, I know you are more for a light hearted entertainment.
Tine is not state owned. It's a cooperative owned by the Norwegian milk farmers.
We know, therefore Ron says heavy subsidized
I'm very much on the left politically so sure, I'm generally a fan of statism. 😃On the other hand, cannot BELIEVE that Mr Vin Monopoly wouldn't accept Ronald's rose!
So typical though. "You have to leave now. We're closing.". The rules are the rules!
@@PluminhaI think that is normal and ok.
:)
Lol love the AI-pictures!! - also i dont think the problem so much is your oil production, as it is your enormus over consumption of all goods
Valid point. Thanks for sharing!
Ronald in Russia: ua-cam.com/video/FdiOVV0TsJI/v-deo.html
Sounds just like Canada.
Americans and capitalist supporters on UA-cam are unable to comprehend that we're a Social-Democracy (socialism). When I tell them outright they're always answering "NUH-UH, you have free markets" and when I show them the government list of owned companies they completely shut down and break all contact. It's hilarious being a secret Soviet State! 🤣
😆😜
