My week has been made! No, my whole month! A video from Ronald and Mads, two of my most favorite people anywhere! You can’t imagine how much you lift my spirits. I live in Texas. Last winter when my housemates cranked the heat way up because God forbid was below 60° outside, I closed my bedroom door and my vent and opened my window all night. It was great until we got a few nights in a row of 30 to 40°. Then I finally had enough and shut my window. But I still left my vent closed.
I am 1/4 Norwegian and live in the U.S. I hardly know anything about my Norwegian ancestors. This video explains so much of my personality and habits that I am stunned. I will be visiting for the first time in the summer of 2025.

Absolutely love you guys and never miss a video. My sister was an exchange student to Norway in the 60s, she went back as an elementary school teacher for a year, and has visited 2 or 3 other times. To say she enjoyed her time in Norway is an understatement. I "introduced" your videos to her and she in turn has brought your videos to the attention of several friends. I am sorry I never went to visit her while she was in Norway.
excellent video! so entertaining....I live in the U.S. and would say that a person's income is taboo, in many parts of the U.S. asking about a person's religion would also be off limits and there are also a good number of people who do not want to be reminded that we all will die someday! These types of videos are my absolute favourite and why I subscribed to your channel way back when----you guys do an amazing job and it's great to see you making videos again!♥
Great to see you guys again! This is hilarious about facial expressions 😂 and the curtains! Introverts who love to be on display 😂 We don’t ask about how much you earn in the US either, but some people here love transparency about their life so they will make sure you know😊
11:30 - avantgarde Norwegian street art, it can well make Oslo more vibrant, perhaps. It is now part of the urban landscape. All the best and keep up the good work with your videos! Love your work on this channel, very informative and educational and also funny! 😊
It’s always a good idea to learn the language of the country you’re visiting or living in. It shows respect for the culture and people around you. Norwegian is a unique language with some interesting features, such as the use of “innpust” (breathing in) to indicate yes or no. If your girlfriend says “ja” (yes) on an innpust, it means she’s serious and you should expect an explanation soon.
Another one so quick?! YAY! You’re on a roll! That was very informative and funny, love it!! 😂❤ Open windows, I laughed my head off! 😂 We do the same in Germany, but I meet a lot of resistance here in Argentina… Plus, you’ll just get robbed…
Thank you Ronald and Mads! We just returned from Norway and found your videos very entertaining, and they prepared us for Norwegian culture. We even took your suggested cable car tour, and my husband tried canned reindeer meatballs which he loved. Our favorite part of the trip was getting to know the locals. We went to a locals bar, and many people struck up conversations with us because they had never seen us before. I enjoyed talking about the differences in our cultures, and social services. I appreciated how direct Norwegians are. Thank you again. I really enjoyed and appreciated your country. I felt so safe there. It's rare as a woman in the USA to be able to hike alone, or go to a concert without having your bag searched. I felt so free in Norway.
I dunno why but I find your outdoors scenes funny as hell as I can just imagine Yngve watching you frolick around the headstones like two mad men. I think the dark and the cold does something to our Northern European brains that forces us to create our own fun on a budget.
😂 I am way too outspoken, way too friendly, way too opinionated to not offend anyone. I think I am a typical American, I am heavy and female, but I absolutely love watching you two.
Sounds like what influenced our double negatives in Minnesota😂. If you're feeling bad ...you say not too good if you're feeling good,... you say not too bad
Oi, yes that sounds so Norwegian. Very interesting to learn that you guys still talk like us. Thanks for sharing and engaging. Cheers from Ronald and Mads
Hmm. What is taboo in my nation? ( USA) To be honest, it depends on where in the US you are. The states and even areas within the same state vary so much.
Love your videos ❤ you're always so goofy and fun. I like curtains and have blackout curtains in my bedroom. I like as dark as possible when I sleep, sounds don't usually bother me as much as light. City lights at night are touch for me. Employers here in the states don't like it when employees talk about wages, they don't wanna pay people more. It's a big problem.
We must be Norwegian. I've worked with the same people for a decade and I couldn't tell you which ones got married, are married, are single, or got divorced in that time. I've never heard of anyone talking about their parents, partners, or kids. I've never been invited to anyone's home. I've seen pictures of their new cars or boats or had them tell me what they did on vacation. No one even has photos on their desks. We have our own wonky social customs. When someone asks how are you the answer is always good or people think you are strange.
Great videos, thank you for sharing the different and also similar way of living. Your sense of humor make your videos fun to watch. Looking forward to visit Norway.
Missed you guys! I don’t know if you guys have ever top covered this topic in your past videos but what about education around Norway including school lunches…I’m curious to know if matpakke is included in them

I'm allergic to night air, so have to have climate control to sleep w/o getting sick. Headed to Arizona, HOT, so will have to have some adjustment in the hotel room!---I'm a Hospice nurse, just retired Sunday. Dying & death is something I dealt with on multiple levels over 52 1/2 years, so I know about helping patients/loved ones, staff/caregivers deal with saying Good-bye. Never easy.---Religion, coming from a small town in North Dakota, everyone knew what church you went to, so never needed to ask! And the subject never came up when I lived in big city Albuquerque!
After having lived in Norway for 33 years the language is not a problem, having written essays which were perfectly acceptable at university in Trondheim. (NTNU) I don't have curtains, either. Very difficult making friends here, this seems to be a well known phenomenon.
I am so glad I found a video of you! I missed you! In the Netherlands we have curtains but in the evening a lot of people leave them open. (I don't) I think there are a lot of people here who sleep with open windows but it is not so cold as where you live. I think I must be norwegian because I always carry a backpack with everything I might need. And then I tell people: o no, there is nothing in it, only my diary. (Friends laughing now!) A real taboo in the Netherlands is asking a person how much money he makes, but is also not right to brag about your possessions.
In Oregon U.S. we are recycling obsessed. We recycle all glass, metal cans and paper. Supposedly plastics, but I am dubious about that. My actual trash is about a third of what I was doing when I didn't live in Oregon. I have a separate larger recycle can that I roll out for pickup, and separate tubs for glass. After spending 20+ years here. When I travel to locations without Oregon recycling it is uncomfortable to throw something like a bottle or can into the trash.
I live in Oregon too. I can confirm that we recycle just like in Norway. In Portland it's not like other parts of the USA. It's more like Helsinki with less vowels and worse hockey. Any person from Scandinavia, Baltic countries or Germany would feel at home.
Love this channel. Discovered it when I was preparing to marry my Nowegian boyfriend and move to Stavanger (from London). But, alas, he cheated with a Swede, so that ended. Now with your help, I just day dream that this could have been my home😅. Needless to say he regrets his decision now.
It has been long time guys, it's wonderful to see you again Ronald & Mads 🥳😍 as usual funny, smart and friendly ways to deliver the difficulties and the solutions to avoid it 😎🤓 we don't talk about salary 💰 or death⚰️ as well 🤐 And OMG 😱 we can't live without curtains 🙈
I'm from SMS club! :))) I really missed that yahoo messenger club :P In Romania we tend also to not talk freely bout our faith, but we identify ourselves with the type of religion we have.
I was cracking up laughing from the very start! The "nay nay da da" part reminded me of the classic Steam song "Na Na Hey Hey", the song the Chicago White Sox baseball team plays (and all the Sox fans sing) when they win the game. I live in "helt" Texas and they're pretty strange down here. Apartments have window blinds, although they really should have thermal blackout curtains to keep the light and heat out. They build them way too close together not to have some kind of window covering. I don't talk about religion, politics, income, or anything else I don't want to discuss with people I don't know well here because there are so many extremists and they all have guns (except me). You throw your backpack in the car here, and you carry them around everywhere so you have all your stuff with you.
I love it--so interesting to learn and so hilarious in presentation.! In my part of the US it is also taboo to ask how much anyone earns. It's also not great to ask how much someone paid for their house or car or similar items. It's rude to ask about marital/partner status, even if someone is wearing a wedding ring. Also rude to ask about someone's religion, but I don't think it's quite as taboo as in Norway. And last one off the top of my head is don't ask detailed questions about someone's health. I'm sure there are more.
Recycling! Here in America, we get Five cents, or 1/20th of a dollar. I actually live in a town named Norway! When I first moved to my apartment I did not have curtains for the longest time and I never knew about this..
Norway has the best recycling system in the world. As evidenced by the fact that we recycle 92% of all bottles and cans, the highest number of any country.
This humor is so smart, i laugh a lot. I asked a guy if he’s afraid of be old and alone (because he’s single) so I think I made a big mistake 😂. The issue is here in my country this question is not a taboo.
There are lots of similarities between Norway and the UK it seems. It’s mostly middle class people, especially the English, who tend to keep their curtains open a lot. Not as much as Norwegians though. No naked people on view. If someone did that regularly they could get themselves arrested. We also don’t discuss how much we earn. We don’t get money for cans, but we do have recycling collections and bins. We don’t talk about death either, no no no. Backpacks are very popular here too.
Bang on - I don’t miss net curtains but isn’t there another option than just being on full public display? I’ve actually heard people gossip about how so and so at number 49 has had their curtains shut all afternoon, as if it’s something scandalous. UK taboos, money of course but death is a great one and I’d go further and say anything related to bodily functions or the health of… intimate areas. How many people die because they don’t go to the doctor with an “embarrassing” symptom? Politics to some degree, we do a weird dance around it until we know if other people agree and then we will talk about it.
Bra! In January I'm going to Oslo for a kinda whirlwind visit. I've never been in Norway, and looking forward to it. My friends think I'm an idiot for going to Northern Europe in the dead of winter, but I like the cold so much even Finnish people think I'm insane.
My Grandma was a devout Christian. She went to church every week, had crucifixes all over her house, things like that. I can't remember her EVER talking about her faith. It's the Norwegian way.
I lived in norway for four years. no body asked my religion or race. The time I lived in Norway is the time I felt the most freedom... I love Norway for ever......
I think the only thing that surprised me on that list was the last one: religion as a completely taboo topic. Everything else lines up pretty well with what I'm used to. Window shades are hit or miss here - we use them to block the light in the morning. My parents always slept with the window open, but I like a warm room.
Hi Ronald, nice to see you posting again, love your videos. I watched one yesterday where you were discussing trolls, and peste kommar, etc. you were asking about some of our countries legends and myths. Ii live in Canada, eh. Here we have the european things like vampires, werewolves, and so on, but some of our indigenous (native) people have their versions of scary things, one is known as the 'wendigo', also has other spellings. They are supposedly emancipated beings with severe cannibalistic tendancies, sometimes they are depicted as having deer horns, but not according to the natives, they describe them as being like a skeleton with skin, eyes, etc. They hunger for human flesh, and are never satisfied. We have some Navajo in Canada, (more in the USA), they beieve insomething called the skinwalker, the are evil Navajo wiches (male oe female), that can transform into various animals, most commonly wolves, and can do whatever they want to you. Hope you find this interesting, I have 75% Swedish ancestry, both of my dad's parents were from Smaland (in Sweden) , and my mom's grandparents were from the north of Sweden, I've been to Sweden and am a bit familiar with tomten.

Thank you it all is making sense now.
Kinda loving the resilient, sassy, confusing and somewhat delusional attitude of Norway😊
Great video!
I am so glad I found a video of you! I missed you!
In the Netherlands we have curtains but in the evening a lot of people leave them open. (I don't)
I think there are a lot of people here who sleep with open windows but it is not so cold as where you live.
I think I must be norwegian because I always carry a backpack with everything I might need. And then I tell people: o no, there is nothing in it, only my diary. (Friends laughing now!)
A real taboo in the Netherlands is asking a person how much money he makes, but is also not right to brag about your possessions.
Very interesting to learn. You act and feel like a true Norwegian ;) Thanks for sharing and engaging with us! Cheers from Ronald and Mads
You two DO exist still! I've been wondering if you were OK and if you were ever going to make a new video. Yay!
It has been long time guys, it's wonderful to see you again Ronald & Mads 🥳😍 as usual funny, smart and friendly ways to deliver the difficulties and the solutions to avoid it 😎🤓
we don't talk about salary 💰 or death⚰️ as well 🤐
And OMG 😱 we can't live without curtains 🙈
NO CURTAINS!!! Can't deal with that! Must have curtains at all cost!🤪 Cee from the little haunted cottage in ireland 💚💚💚🍀🍀🍀
Haha, and you live in a cottage. Are there so many neighbours around?
@@YOURWAY2NORWAY people in ireland are very nosey! It is just apart of being irish. 🙃💚
I'm from SMS club! :))) I really missed that yahoo messenger club :P In Romania we tend also to not talk freely bout our faith, but we identify ourselves with the type of religion we have.
Great video, you both!
A few of my own behaviors make more sense now. 😂
Love from Minnesota 💓
Lol! I’m from the South. Not a trace of Norwegian genetics but I can still relate. Love these two young men!
Went on a Scandi tour, Norway was the only country I liked....maybe case I'm introverted.
Scorecard for wry, intelligent humor: 10/10 👏
Thanks! :):)
Well... big howdy Guys!!
Here in NorCal its taboo to talk to your neighbors😮😂
You two have the most entertaining vlog on UA-cam, can you do an episode where Ronald films and Mads hosts as a opposite day special?
Hehe, I have asked him the same many times. Unfortunately he does not like to be in the front...
Welcome back!!
Great video. I'm 8% Sami, 43% Scandinavian and enjoy your channel from America.
Thanks for sharing!
Love that gong!
That last point is so true. You can ask me almost anything, but as soon as the topic turns to religion I suddenly have somewhere else to be.
This humor is so smart, i laugh a lot. I asked a guy if he’s afraid of be old and alone (because he’s single) so I think I made a big mistake 😂. The issue is here in my country this question is not a taboo.
Hi, will you stream 17th of May in Norway? Don't forget your Bunad and Kvikk Lunsj!
I’m an expert on Norwegian culture and anti culture thanks to you two 🇬🇧✌️
There are lots of similarities between Norway and the UK it seems.
@@kitm141 Oh yes, agree. Although I wish there was more taboo, as there used to be, around discussing politics, especially from famous people.
I've been looking for a video like this for 5 years 😂
Bra! In January I'm going to Oslo for a kinda whirlwind visit. I've never been in Norway, and looking forward to it. My friends think I'm an idiot for going to Northern Europe in the dead of winter, but I like the cold so much even Finnish people think I'm insane.
Welcome to Norway :)
My Grandma was a devout Christian. She went to church every week, had crucifixes all over her house, things like that. I can't remember her EVER talking about her faith. It's the Norwegian way.
Awesome story! Thanks for sharing, we appreciate it. Cheers from Ronald and Mads
I lived in norway for four years. no body asked my religion or race. The time I lived in Norway is the time I felt the most freedom... I love Norway for ever......
This is the way!
Du e jo knalltidig!😅 bra laget tjommi🍺
I think the only thing that surprised me on that list was the last one: religion as a completely taboo topic. Everything else lines up pretty well with what I'm used to. Window shades are hit or miss here - we use them to block the light in the morning. My parents always slept with the window open, but I like a warm room.
So funny! 😂
9:06 is me 😂
Cool to hear from you again Nyedav :)
Hehe...jeg elsker denne kanalen!! :D I am subscribed!!!
