Shay Season at the Cass Scenic Railroad (July 15, 2016 - July 17)

While on my trip to West Virginia for Mountain State Railroad & Logging Historical Association's Railfan Express I gathered a few clips of regular trains at Cass along with Shay 2, reversed, pulling the train to the "Great Train Race" at Spruce. Since Cass Scenic Railroad's Heisler #6 was running the Durbin Rocket, the Cass Scenic Railroad once again only ran Shay Locomotives up the mountain. A Shay Season until the Heisler returns or Climax #1551 (#6) (#9) is finished her restoration.
Shot 1 (July 15): Shay 2 crosses Back Mountain Road, reversed with the Great WV Train Race.
Shot 2 (July 15): Shay 2 steams across Gum Field with the same train as Shot 1. The train will continue to Spruce, WV and couple to three hopper cars and race BL2 #82 and a B&O #6641 pulling The Cheat Mountain Salamander. This day the Shay would win the race, but the next day the diesels would take the prize.
Shot 3 (July 16): Shay 5 passes the Cass Mill with the daily Bald Knob train. Shay 2 has recently been running the Bald Knob train, but with her running the "Great Train Race" and Big Six on stand-by, Shay 5 was chosen to run the train.
Shot 4 (July 17): Shay 2 dropped us off at The Wye to take a static photo and most of us wondered over to catch the Bald Knob train. From the size of the train I can infer that Shay 5 was not powerful enough to pull the train, Big Six hauled the train instead.
