This was recorded in 1993. In a high school auditorium. It was part of a christmas CD called Ornaments in Brass that DCI produced that year. The corps also recorded Amazing Grace at the same location and it is also on the album. I was a member of the PR pit that summer, so I got to sit in on part of the recording. Amazing hornline that year.
I went to a Phantom audition camp in '94. One of the highlights of my drum corps career, though I didn't march there, was playing this piece with them!
Saw this ensemble at DCI finals in Jackson, MS. The show was phenomenal, as was Amazing Grace in the retreat. The best part was following them to the parking lat where they played most of the show again, just for themselves,...completely immersed in the realization that that group of souls would never play together again, and that the moments had to be milked for every ounce of perfection. It was a moment where you thank God for being in that place, at that very time.
I have heard this 100 times and it never fails to give me goosebumps & make me feel emotional. I expect that if I hear it another 1,000, that won't change. What an amazing, powerful hornline. Today's DCI band instrument lines are pretty, but can't compare. Regiment has a number of phenomenal signature pieces, but for me nothing can touch this & Elsa's.
the way this is played with the amazing brass is so strong. I heard several versions of it but this one is simply the best. It takes things to another level! thanbks for getting it on you tube!
@bchapm This recording can be found on the "Ornaments in Brass" cd that was released by DCI in 93. It was a christmas album that featured seasonal selections played by various corps.
I go to Everglades High School and i play trombone. We are playing this also, and my favorite part in this song is 1:09 to 1:20 I love it when we play that. :)
It overwhelms me to read all these positive comments. I played eupho (Buicks) on this recording. You can thank Dan Farrell for pulling this out of us. We did many takes and Lord Dan took the podium and commanded this performance. SUTA!!!!
@mepperpint93 Yeah, I cried my eyes out at the impact moment when I aged out. It was special when I played it, but since then it means so much more now.
@bchapm Correct, this was '93. Recorded in a studio, included on the 'Ornaments in Brass' CD. I think DCI still sells it. It was originally on cassette.
I have been a huge fan of PR for about 20 years. My cousin march with them from the time he was able to join the junior corps. I prefer the white uniforms. That is what PR is known for. My aunt and uncle took in kids that marched PR also. I personally think most people didn't recognize them with all black. I know my aunt and uncle didn't like them
I conducted this my senior year of high school as one of the three drum majors for my high school's marching band. We won the best drum major award twice in the three competitions in which we participated. Needless to say, this brings back many memories.
Amazing... the noise at :23 is on the DCI recording I believe... I remember playing this video over and over and it was there... ruins the song too... I wonder if Phantom has a recording for sale. I'm a Cavie, but I do appreciate the talent this corps has.
I guess when you think of a Phantom you think of someone or something wearing all black or a shadow type figure. Either way as long as the music stays the same it really does not matter. I like the black as well but white is cool too.
@jadebrew I Think the black was an original bad ass uniform idea, but after so many others tacked onto the idea the abrupt all-white gives them a look of crisp perfection and purity, just like the sound they produce. I think they should switch back and forth depending on the music selection. The all white and silver is a little eery and it really pops on the field. Black is sinister, but I did like it better.
@aozminski Hey I marched SCV in 91,93 and 94... snare if it matters. Phantom 93 was one of the few shows that I ever got to see up front and all I can say is WOW. Hope all is well.
@trumpetmaster09 93, off the Ornaments In Brass CD released back them. It's under a different name on the page DCI has, Nevorissk Chimes (Phantom Regiment). Should be available on the download part of the Fan Network.
lol XD i know, but i think it's because the black uniforms back then, didn't look as good as the white ones, however, if they went all black with the same looking uniform that the drum majors wore in this pic, i wouldn't mind at all. It looks really, kickass. But sadly, they already changed uniforms last year. :/
we played this as the choral in our marching show my freshman year, i hated the living crap out of it. sounded terrible. bored me to tears. did not know phantom had a version. now in love with how it's SUPPOSED to sound. :)
As a 2012 member who had the privilege of performing this piece, I will say that nothing beats the sound of these G bugles. Thank you '93 hornline.
On a USB stick, in my safe, for my funeral.
LOL. Me too!!!!

1:18 through 1:53 are the greatest 45 seconds of my life.
35 or 45?
1:10
I am not joking when I say I just drooled over this
The wall of sound they produce is so full and heart stopping, Love it. Great performance as always by the phantom regiment!
Missing that Full Bore G Bugle Sound.
the way this is played with the amazing brass is so strong. I heard several versions of it but this one is simply the best. It takes things to another level! thanbks for getting it on you tube!
G Bugles
no matter how many times i hear this song being played by a totally awesome corps.... (ty phantom regiment) im moved greatly by the power of it
The 1993 Phantom show has been my favorite DCI show of all time, and I got to see it live. :D
We used this song as our ballad this year! This year is a season I will never forget!
Dmitri Shostakovich + Phantom Regiment = Babies are born
One of my favorite versions of this tune
The raw power of the G -Bugle.....Incredible!
I also think Phantom should put the whole corps in these uniforms.
@bchapm This recording can be found on the "Ornaments in Brass" cd that was released by DCI in 93. It was a christmas album that featured seasonal selections played by various corps.
nothing more beautiful than the
sound at 1:18 makes me cry....
1993, same recording session as Amazing Grace, in Denver area for Drums along the Rockies
I go to Everglades High School and i play trombone. We are playing this also, and my favorite part in this song is 1:09 to 1:20 I love it when we play that. :)

And yes, G Bugles are better.

Suta Forever amen
this is the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps' corps song. There aren't words to describe the meaning of this piece to me.
1:17 and all of its variations give me goosebumps every time.
Our band's playing this this year for our show. :D Hope it'll sound somewhat like this. If it does, we'll be sure to win state this year.
@jadebrew Haha, that's because the middle DM is Koji fam...he's a beast
Sweet. My favorite Phantom Regiment year.
Love this theme
at :23 that noise scared me shitless with my speakers on full blast

@KRTHclassicalIMSLP No. Dean was conductor (and is) in 2011. This picture is from 2009
Jim Wren!
@jadebrew He was one of my student leaders at the George N. Parks Drum Major academy. He was a really good teacher and is a very good drum major
I conducted this my senior year of high school as one of the three drum majors for my high school's marching band. We won the best drum major award twice in the three competitions in which we participated. Needless to say, this brings back many memories.

phenomenal.....
yeah, that's not on the source file and I uploaded it twice. Don't know why it does that.
Oh on the emblem of the helmet. Wow that's cool. Good eye :P

@bseemann901 I bought it on CD in the early 2000's. I'm sure there's a few copies around if you look in the right places.
@aozminski Hey I marched SCV in 91,93 and 94... snare if it matters. Phantom 93 was one of the few shows that I ever got to see up front and all I can say is WOW. Hope all is well.
No low-end synthetic "GOO".

@jadebrew Koji Mori is the guy mann, lol and I totally agree.
@1digidude You know those are the majors right?
I wish the top rated comment was still about 0:23 scaring the shit out of everyone. I always forget...
@rallymunoz Madison, Bluecoats, Troopers and Crown are not real drum corps? They would be surprised to hear that.

Where's the precision to show Phantom can march!
@jubjub963 would be cool if it was though!

Nope! For me the best is 1:05..just when the baritones and contra's come in...its like a symphony...

did not know phantom had a version.
now in love with how it's SUPPOSED to sound. :)
@1digidude If they did it all the time it wouldn't be special
Tuba
Pardon me, but those are 14 contras. It would take 20 or more tubas to attempt reproducing that sound.
