    Brandon, it's very cool that your wife enjoys your hobby in which it created her hobby. How do you determine what creeks to walk in order to find bottles? Do you have to find out the age of the rivers/ creeks? I love it when you give us stories or give us information about the bottles, or a history lesson. Thanks

    You guys have the clearest water! I live in Massachusetts and the rivers and creeks around here are all brown or rust colored. Years of paper mills dumping chemicals in them and the high iron content. If I had the clear creeks like you guys I'd never leave, and my girls would likely live in it. We have lots of treasures in our rivers but when you can't even see the bottom, or your hand in 6 inches of water, then it isn't worth the dangers of large chunks of iron or metal or getting caught up in something.

    Your focus issue is probably the lighting is making the bottle too close in shade/color to the gravel bar. You need a contrasting color in the background. Hold it up so green leaves or a dark bank or something is in the background. Or if you sprout a third hand, do like your wife did, and hold your hand behind it. Also, have you thought if it's possible to cut out the embossing of broken bottles and leading around it, similar to stain glass, and making an x-mas ornament or something? Would that be too heavy? Or a big conglomeration of them and make a stained glessesque framed doo-dad?

    • @adventurearchaeology
      @adventurearchaeology  3 роки тому

      Would love to cut the embossing out however it is very time consuming. One day if this ever becomes a full time gig I’ll try to figure out more ways to use all of the pieces that I have accumulated haha

    Going back and catching up on videos I missed. Yes-cleaning bottles is risky-especially if they’re super dirty and you’re scrubbing/using warm water. I broke 2 mason jars and a flask last week cleaning up bottles-soap on a jar got too slippery and I dropped the jar on the flask and broke both. 🤦🏻‍♀️The other jar I broke accidentally scrubbing too hard to get some creek sick off the inside and popped the side out. Luckily they weren’t super old or rare items-30s-60s stuff we found at a new creek walking spot. But that black/brown creek sick/algae stuff is murder to get off!

About 15 minutes down the road in the town of Coshocton a business man from Jasper Alabama built a big apartment building in the 1890’s early 1900’s. Maybe they could be related

    Years ago a buddy of mine pulled some time in a County jail and they would make glasses from coke bottles, they took a length of nylon trot line string 3 feet long and tied a pull stick to each end ( like a chain saw starter rope ) . One guy would hold the bottle tightly between his knees , the other guy would wrap a full turn around the bottle and start (sawing ) back and forth with the string ,when the the string got hot it would begin to stick to the glass and quickly the bottle was tossed into cold water . The bottle would go ‘tink ‘ and would be cut cleanly in half . The new glass would be ground smooth on the concrete cell floor .
