    TerraTech fans - what did you think?! Can you beat my time? ;-) What would you like to see next?: Ep2 of this crafting playthrough, a different speedrun or pure tutorials on crafting?
    Terraria fans - I've been thinking more and more about how I might make some more Terraria content. These vids are testing the water as to how much I can do (with my health limitations - ME/CFS). It'll take a lot of time and effort to pick back up with the technical side of Terraria (I can't easily switch between these things). But I'm definitely still interested. :-)

      If you lack ideas for terraria videos, perhaps try studying boss AI and setting up perfect dodging machines, using hoiks/teleporters, or trying the same for events.
      The Old One's army is vulnerable to advanced arena design, as actuated blocks aren't taken into account when placing the crystal. Also, as long as the guys coming out of the portals have a line of sight to the crystal, they remain solid and hoikable.
      I've made some arenas that trivialize beating the army using this.
      I don't play TerraTech, but now I'm considering it, thanks to you! keep up the good work!

    • @ZeroGravitas

      > I've made some arenas that trivialize beating the army using this
      Cool. Having you posted them up (to T-MEC maybe, sorry, I'm not in the loop there still). I'll definitely need to check out Old One's Army, as I've never played it.
      I'm not so sure about making perfect dodging arenas, though. Others, like DicemanX, Mappy, etc, are very good at the high end, complex, perfect builds. I tend to stick to the smaller, more accessible stuff that I can explain how to build. :-) I did try making a Duke Fishron cheesing hoik loop, once, but he was too smart for that (and DicemanX'd made a couple auto-farms for him already.
      Thanks for suggestions, very helpful. :-)

      Love it - I've been looking for some decent TerraTech content today and was generally disappointed. This was a good find.
      Now that I know multiple mining platforms can be placed on the same seam, I've a feeling the game is about to become even more trivial.

    • @ZeroGravitas

      > I've a feeling the game is about to become even more trivial.
      Lol. Yeah, it's certainly easy enough once you know what's going on. The devs have balanced it for the youngest of players, thus far, I think. And (sensibly) don't want a difficulty slider.
      There are various challenge rules you can give yourself, though (for later runs), like "no projectile weapons!". ;-)

      Yeah I watch alot of Lathlands videos on TT, which are great, but this was a really pleasant break from the heavy level of dialogue in most videos I watch. I don't mind listening to you guys at all 😊 but TT videos with the proper music seem to be hella satisfying and meditative for me 👍👍
      On a side note, I play on console atm 🤪 *cringe*, and it would be interesting to see how quick you can get to 1 mil BB with a 5000 block limit. It's an interesting challenge to apply to alot of things I'd normally do on PC.

    • @ZeroGravitas
      @ZeroGravitas  5 років тому +1

      @@thebeardedjosh1516 Heh, that's very 'brave' of you, lol. And yeah, I'd be interested to see how well you could do with money mining under such limits...
      The tech unloading distance is closer, so you may have to drive around more between mining sites to get them to pay out. And the 200 BA cost per anchor tech is going to be a killer, even with 4x auto-miner techs...
      Ironically, it might actually make more sense to have them set up *further* apart, so that no two bases are loaded into game at the same time. Hmm...
      I do like a challenge but I'm not buying my first console at this stage in my life, lol. :-)

      Really? What I've heard, from other players, is that they don't work out much better than having 3 or 4 GSO miners on the same spot. Did I get the wrong end of the stick? 🙂
      You can go a lot faster that this, anyway. One player got there in under 2 hours, easy.

  • @dank4661
    @dank4661 5 років тому +7

    Hey, I was just wondering how you protect your miners and sellers from rogue techs. I always have difficulty keeping my anchored blocks safe. Cheers for the though, was looking for a fast way to glorious money. I like watching this game sped up its really cool haha.

    • @ZeroGravitas
      @ZeroGravitas  5 років тому +7

      Hey, thanks. :-)
      Well, enemies only spawn around the player's tech, at 200m-300m range. One every 40 seconds.And they are immobilised beyond 200m, so if you just stay still, nothing can hurt your stuff. Also, none can attack your stuff while you're far away.
      They despawn beyond 450m from you, so driving far away will clear any troublemakers. Also, they can't spawn within 100m of an anchored tech. So if you alternate between moving about purposefully and staying completely still, you're likely to just have no issues. Milling about near your base is the worst things you can do (like when testing a new plane, or something).
      Also, enemies are very small and weak this early in the the game (GSO level 2 and driving a small tech), so they don't cause much damage, even if something goes wrong. Later game you'll want to make fairly powerful turrets around any crafting base. But with mining bases it's kinda optional - the miners are very cheap, so if some get destroyed it's no big deal.
      Good luck. :-)

    Really enjoying the MOBILE refining and selling on the Determinist after converting refinery to the Venture Mobile variant and the Sell canon to TWO of the Venture mobile variants. A simple trip through a green biome is MONEY!!!! Drive straight through trees and erudite veins..... refine, sell, repeat...all on the go! Only time I have to anchor now is to refill batteries or craft.

    • @ZeroGravitas
      @ZeroGravitas  5 років тому +2

      Cool! Do you have the Venture Refinery in the same place as I had the GSO Refinery? (Do you have to set the Fabricator to call resources to pull them through it, would that even work, I forget...?)

    • @solidus3168
      @solidus3168 5 років тому +1

      @@ZeroGravitas Yes, I just hot swapped the components out. As for setting the filter and fabricator to sell: yes, same applies on XB1 and because you are using mobile parts and have already set the fabricators and filter to craft compressed bricks it sells as you drive.
      Having a mobile refinery, 2 mobile delivery cannons, pacemaker, filter and, setting the fabricators to refined Erudite and Fibron turn the Determinist into a LAWN MOWER that shoots out money in the green biomes.
      GOOD TIMES!
      After thought....even with all of these mobile parts installed while using YOUR core design you STILL have to anchor to set the fabricators. Perhaps the Better Future update will examine this and add some mobile fabricators.

    • @ZeroGravitas
      @ZeroGravitas  5 років тому +1

      @@solidus3168 It would be cool to have mobile fabrication, for sure. But I don't think the devs will play with the function of any core crafting blocks for a while...

    This vid is a classic. Sucks that the refinery still jams though. Factories in this game could still use some bugfixing, like when I build an all-purpose base and select something to fabricate but only most of the silos get pinged, or something moved from a silo to a conveyor but just goes straight back into the silo, requiring an extra belt.

    • @ZeroGravitas

      Yeah, those are all OG crafting bugs that I documented and showed work-arounds for in my guide (on Steam).

    Also, can we have a full slow version of this speedrun? I'd really like to look at the progress of building the harverter-seller-crafter closer, but speed-up makes me unable to see some details. > I don't know why there are so little likes here.
      Well, I did only properly release this video this afternoon. (And, yeah, of course more of my viewers would be thrilled for Terraria content. ;-)
      > Also, can we have a full slow version of this speedrun?
      I've thought about it: the original recording is 72GB, heh, so even with my good internet connection that's not really viable. I'll see what size it is after compressing it for archiving. I might post it as an unlisted video, and link it here. Would a 4x speed version be almost/more helpful? I have a version that I used in the production process.
      > I could just download and reverse-engineer that[...]
      Yeah, so you saw the link to the mobile crafter I shared on the Steam Workshop?: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1293348837 The problem is that the early game builds depend a lot upon RNG, as to what enemies spawn, how lucky you are with killing them and the shop inventory - my techs were fairly different each play-through. So it didn't seem to useful to specify an exact design. (Also you can't load techs very early, of course.)

    • @yohannakrasiwski7475
      @yohannakrasiwski7475 6 років тому +1

      ZeroGravitas
      Well, I am curious about how did you manage to shove all the stuff you found in somewhat useful position more than interested in copying the tech right away, so under "reverse-engineering" here I mean that I would sit and "THAT A NEAT POSITION FOR THAT LITTLE SEMI-DECORATIVE THINGY HE FOUND!!!!")) That's why I've asked for slower version (I guess, 4x would do): it's always a pleasure to look at first few hours of skilled playthrough just to learn a few tricks (personally I'm just not very good on generating nice techs, some big boxes on wheels with guns on top and stuff inside are my best). Oh, and thank you for the crafting guide, that was a very helpfull one, good ol' Crafty Mike really doesn't teach, and you do.

    • @ZeroGravitas

      OK, the compressed version of the 4x sped up footage wasn't too massive, so here you go: ua-cam.com/video/_0M4YBJQQY4/v-deo.html
      I think it's more useful that the slow, native speed anyway, and you could use the UA-cam controls to reduce it to just 2x (plus pausing, etc). Good luck. :-)
      And, well, I didn't collect all the parts that dropped along the way. I left a fair few lights and rubbish wheels behind, in particular. Then send much of the interesting looking loot to inventory via anchoring or attaching to a cab.

      Erm, the way I move around while mining, I've not had much issue with enemies attacking miners.
      As you said elsewhere, you can just run away to despawn them. But also, enemies always tend to be far smaller than player. Even if they aren't, they are inherently weaker, because their blocks fall off at 20% damage (80% damage for player techs).
      It is awkward that there's no way to share techs on console though...

    How do you get 4 autominers mining on the same seam? I made the exact same tech but not all of them work. I even went into build beam and shifted around a lot but I can't get all 4 to mine. Help!!!

    • @ZeroGravitas
      @ZeroGravitas  6 років тому

      I just follow the steps shown in the tutorial part of my video. (18:34 onwards.) Yes, it's very fiddly because it's easy to overshoot. But if you keep moving it back towards the auto-miner that *are* working, then eventually you tend to get all 4 going, *if* the terrain is flat enough to have all 4 anchors deployed at the same time. Try working in a bit of a rotation to help find the sweet spot. Otherwise, give up and try a different spot. gettin 3 mining is still good.

    • @V3rmilion

      ZeroGravitas Thank you so much!! Funny thing is, I had watched the clip and went back to the game and fiddled with my miners and the third time I dropped them, all 4 miners started to work. Also, could you please explain to me how flying works? I hold shift and W and the tech moves forward and up, but I try releasing W and holding S to drop the nose down and it doesn't work. Am I doing something wrong?

      > I try releasing W and holding S to drop the nose down and it doesn't work.
      You need to release [W] and then press it again to nose back down. [W] is pitch forwards, [S] is pitch back, once airborne, but only after you let go of [W] for the first time. Good luck.

      Not sure what you mean...? PS4, XBox and PC are all on the same game version, currently: 1.0. The only differences are your new controller oriented UI features and the "Block Allowance", which limits how many you can have, to try to assure FPS performance.

      I mean, first of all they're at least 5km from the spawn point and they are so rare that you'd probably have to travel (on average) 10-20km before finding one.
      Also, you only get a handful of high-end resources from breaking the rocks there (no minable seams). It wouldn't add up to much. You have to mine, refine and sell 4291 erudite chunks to make a million block bucks!
