Although it took me a while to getting used to it, I've come to really enjoy this game. I'm in my second playthrough (with Start+ after completion of the game). The music and soundscapes are really outstanding and create an eerie atmosphere. There's no item system (despite collecting items all the time; i.e. no inventory etc.). This is what frustrated me at the beginning, but I soon realized that items don't matter all that much in the game. Once you've given an item away, it's gone. This is something to keep in mind. Dialog choices matter, they control the story of the game. But in the end, where the story flows to isn't all that important. Discovering fragments of script and translating them are what interest me most. Also, I find the travel on the waters through space extremely enjoyable and relaxing. You can pass control to Six once you've discovered a route, and he will notify you if he finds something interesting. To me, it gives the illusion of travelling with a real robot. :D -- There are some really outrageous turns of the story, so it's worth exploring them. :D
This obviously was made by people who love love love language. It was a delight to watch when my partner was playing it on PS4 last year. I'll pick this up on the switch just to support the developers . But it's suuuper super slow so it will not appeal to a lot of people.
Actually, there are options to set the pace and text speeds. In my first playthrough, I reduced the settings to their lowest values, since I'm not that fast when it comes to reading English. Now, in my second playthrough (using Start+ after completion of the game), I returned the settings to normal, since I've gotten used to the game's flow. The normal setting is about 20% of the maximum, so you can make it up to 5 times faster.

First! Wow, I saw this in the Nintendo Store and passed it up... maybe I should revisit it.
It surprised a few of us too
I don't know it looks sorta bland and boring and you said it is slow paced. Hard pass on this 1 dreamfall is a similar game and looks much better
