    Very helpful video. I ordered my upgrade this morning for my 2015. I appreciate your humbleness for showing where you messed up, so many content creators skip the really tough parts and leave you hanging but you allowed the viewers to learn from your mistakes vs. making their own. Overall, great video and thanks for sharing!

    Very well done, Adam. I don't need the upgrade as I have a 2017 Silverado but I have some friends who could use this and I'll send them to this video.

    I have apple car play in my work truck which is a 2022 gmc I dont like that I have to plug it it, very annoying. This upgrade is for cars that do not have CarPlay at all, and the upgrade still requires a cable connected to the USB port. So this will not solve your issue.
      You should look into an adapter that makes the CarPlay a Bluetooth connection: this one is on a lightning deal for $57 with a $7 coupon, so $50 total:

    Adam, Happy New Year! I noticed the seat cover on the back seat of your truck, with zippers for the center flip tray. Would you mind tell me where you bought it from? Also my 2014 GMC SLT has a CD player, and I like to keep it, I'm an older guy from the cassette players time, so I have lots of MP3 CDs. This will eliminated the CD player in my truck? And your sound system is Bose? My is, any compatibility issue with it?

    • @adamvw1889
      @adamvw1889  Рік тому

      The exact version of the dog seat cover I bought was no longer available, but I had purchased it on amazon. This is the closest version I could find that also has a zipper for the center tray on the back seat. www.amazon.com/Honest-Covers-Window-Cover-Trucks/dp/B08398BV5S. This install will NOT impact use of the CD player, and you can still play CDs with this install :) Finally, I do not have BOSE, but I do believe White Auto and Media do have a version that is compatible with Bose.

    Good video man. I’ve been wanting to do this to my 2015 Silverado but not sure if I want to drop $1000 for the upgrade kit. Also hesitant because I’m worried once you take the dash apart and put it back together if the plastic will be noisy once it’s back together.

      Thanks! This isn’t really taking the dash apart, it’s just one plastic piece. it’s completely secure once you put it back in place with the clips. Also, the pricing can under $680 if you don’t unlock the HMI and don’t add GPS.

But here is what I found online: “The Human Machine Interface (HMI) is part of the car radio system, basically it is the ‘brain’ of the infotainment system. The HMI 2.5 IO5 or IO6 upgrade is one of the most popular and easiest upgrades to do which adds factory apple car play and android auto integration into the system.” coastalflash.com/gm-hmi-vin-linking-and-programming/

      Earlier versions of CarPlay required a connection to the phone using a cord. My wife’s 2021 Toyota requires a cord for CarPlay, but the following model year they had a Bluetooth connection from the manufacture. The good news is after you install this radio and HMI upgrade on the GMC, you can buy a Bluetooth adapter for about $50-$70 that will enable blue tooth CarPlay after you complete this install.

    I did the 4" to 8" screen upgrade with carplay. everything went smooth on my install with my 2015 Silverado except my physical buttons(Home, Back, Forward, Backward, Eject). My new 8" screen physical buttons do the wrong actions, ex: eject button goes to home screen, Home button skips forward etc. I haven't been able to find any solutions for this problem online so I'm kinda perplexed on what the solution could be. I purchased mine also from WAMS(White Automotive & Media Services) and have sent them an email to which they sent back a message saying they were reaching out to GM about this issue. I’m not seeing an GMC Terrain mods for apple CarPlay / Android auto from the website I purchased this hmi and radio from. I did quickly Google it and found this might be an option for you (depending on the type of terrain you have and features you have).

    Should I get the kit with or without the Bose radio?

    • @adamvw1889
      @adamvw1889  2 роки тому

      This depends on what you already have. The kit does not add Bose radio if you do not already have it. It just ensures the replacement is compatible with your existing Bose radio if you do already have it. When you contact the provider of the hmi and radio (I went with White Auto and Media) and provide your VIN, they will be able to ensure you get the compatible kit that works for your vehicle.

      Hi Tony, I’m sorry but I actually don’t have any details on whether or not this is able to support a factory installed a DVD player. White Auto and Media, the company I bought the HMI and Radio upgrade from, are very knowledgeable about a wider range of install use-cases and may be able to answer your question.

    Would it work on my 2015 GMC Sierra Denali ?

    • @adamvw1889
      @adamvw1889  9 місяців тому

      The best person to answer this question is the place that you are purchasing the new radio in the new HMI module to complete the upgrade. The reason they can give you a more concrete answer is that they will request your VIN and ensure the upgrade is compatible to your exact vehicle. My initial thinking is that this upgrade can be done in a 2015 Denali, but I’m just not 100% sure. There are other companies that provide these replacements, but I purchased mine from www.whiteautoandmedia.com, and they were able to answer my questions related to compatibility with my vehicle.

      I purchased the radio and HMI kit from White Automotive and Media Services, and the new USB port from GM Parts direct. Are you able to see the links in the video description section? The good thing about purchasing from WAMS is the HMI is programmed to your VIN to avoid any error messages.
      The HMI and radio kit is $600 and $825 depending on the features you select.
