@Vicki - Ooh! Please share more about Tim's Mom! I am envious of you folks that know the Home Free fellas as their friends, and not just the amazing artists that they are!
I love that there's an actual singing explanation for Austin's nose crinkles - I've been watching reactions to this for probably 4 years at this point, and you're the first one who's explained them.
Thanks for the laugh Jennifer. You sat back taking it in, leaned forward and then when I expected analysis I was given a task instead.😂 You know I've got you and next time, you're going with me.❤
I really enjoyed your reactions and analysis. It is a bit amazing that even after the many Home Free songs you have reviewed, you still find joy and appreciation in their songs. If you haven't yet, I recommend that you also review their version of "Angels We Have Heard on High".
You’re too funny. “Don’t worry, no vocal folds were harmed in the making of that break”. hahahaha! It’s so beautiful and Tim arranged this when he was a teenager…imagine! Loved your analysis always Jen. This is one of my favorites. So beautiful! 🥰🤣😍
Someone said that Tim created this arrangement when he was a teenager. Oh, wow. I believe Chris was covering the bass line while Tim sang the beginning solo.
I think that’s Tim double tracked. Chris has said that they usually double tracked Tim on the studio recordings when he sang leads, but live Chris would do the bass line.
@@justann1358 Yes, Chris's bass was not strong enough back then for a real presence on a recording, so Darren would use Tim for the deep bass parts. Live performances are a different breed and Chris did the bass for them during Tim's lead.
Jen your facial expressions are amazing in this song. Your reaction made me feel like I was hearing it again for the first time. Thank you for sharing your reactions. # HOMEFREE.
One of the main reasons I enjoy your reactions, besides watching you giggle when something really gets your attention, is your explanations of all the nuances that happen as the artists sing. I've learned so very much from you. Now, if only I could sing. I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket so I settle for being an avid fan of those who can. Happy holidays and thank you for the joy you bring us.
Several years ago, this song was my very first exposure to Home Free. I was just searching UA-cam for choral Christmas carols and bumped into these guys. Instantly hooked! Started with all their Christmas music and then continued watching everything of theirs I could find. And they led me to VoicePlay, and Peter Hollens, and Pentatonix, and their individual channels. Quite a rabbit hole - and Home Free is still my favourite.
I got so excited when I saw this notification!!! Loved loved loved your reaction!! I knew this was going to wreck your world. You are one of my favorite HF reactors!!❤
Thanks so much for your excitement, i truly love when you react cause its so much fun! You need to attend a live xmas show. I will send you a link from my friends youtube channel.❤
Thank you Jen for completely ruining my illusion that Austin wrinkled his nose on "night" because he looked adorable. Sigh. I guess it makes sense that he's doing it for an actual vocal purpose, but is it just a coincidence that the look makes me want to pluck him up and put him in my pocket?! Merry Christmas indeed!!😀❤
I am also recommending “Angels We Have Heard On High”. Angelic Rob leads off, 5 part harmony. The arrangement is stunning. I would like to add a hidden gem- Home Free at the Hosanna concert 2013, doing the carol “Joy To the World “. Gospel Rob gets to cut loose in this jazzy, funky arrangement. There’s also a beatbox breakdown.
This was my first time hearing 'O Holy Night' from Home Free, too. This is just crazy outstandingly lovely! Ordering their album ASAP. (Still make albums?)
If you mean do they still make CDs, yes they do (they have a couple vinyl versions too). This rendition of O Holy Night is on their Full of Cheer album. The same arrangement with Chance singing Chris Rupp’s part is on the Full of Even More Cheer. Their most recent Christmas/holiday album is Warmest Winter, the least “traditional” of the three but also amazingly good. Enjoy.
I'm going to go now to watch the video. However, I really enjoy hearing your analysis before I do because it enhances the richness of my listening experience. Merry Christmas and God Bless you.
Their harmony construction and composition reminds me of a pipe organ.. which in this setting is not particularly shocking :) Merry Christmas Jennifer!!!
By Far my Favorite Christmas Song ....and Group...Mary Did You Know and Do You hear What I hear and then With Kenny Rogers Children Go where i send thee.....thanks Jen KEEP ON KEEPIN ON
I saw them in Charlotte, NC and they did this one. They started out with Man of Constant Sorrow and Elvira before moving into their Christmas songs. They did Do You Hear What I Hear, What Christmas Means To Me and How Great Thou Art as well. It was brilliant!!
This song was my first introduction to Home Free--and they've been my favorite musicians ever since! Love it when these guys voice the bell tones🔔 Besides the unbelievable harmonies--and gorgeous church backdrop--getting to hear Adam Rupp's sweet tenor actually singing is a real treat ❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ #HomeFree #HomeFreeDoesChristmasBest #AdamRuppSinging
Before I even start the reaction.... I HAD to click on this. That classic "Jennifer Smile" behind your hands... I KNEW this would be good. Now I'll see if I was right (I KNOW the SONG is good already... I'm interested in YOUR reaction! I've been subscribed for a bit over a year, and you never disappoint!). Here goes!
My favourite rendition of this hymn - the singing & harmonies are gorgeous! If you haven't heard their version of "Mary Did You Know" and "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" (with Jeffrey East & the Oak Ridge Boys) - they're mind-blowing! Thanks for playing this & your analysis!
Thanks Jen. I so enjoy your analysis. You've actually managed to teach me a thing or two about the use of the voice (something a whole string of music teachers in school despaired of anyone every accomplishing).
Love your reaction. You were awesome, as always. I was fortunate to attend the Dec 1 Holiday Tour show in Charlotte NC with UVIP tickets. In that pre show session, they sang White Christmas. The Christmas songs in the show were: Christmas Don't Be Late (sounded like it was played straight from their album and in the dark) which lead to the first on stage song Christmas in LA. Of course they mixed in other songs (Elvira, Man of Constant Sorrow/Folsom Prison Blues) Those were followed by: Colder Weather, Winter Song, Full of Cheer, Do You Hear What I Hear, How Great Thou Art, Oh Holy Night, Children Go Where I Send Thee. Adam's drum solo was Carol Of the Bells (somewhat reminiscent of Trans Siberian Orchestra) The Warmest Winter of All, Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer, I''ll Be Home For Christmas. They ended with Ring of Fire. Encore was...Sea Shanty! As always, their shows end way too soon.
Loved this reaction, Jen! I do miss you keyboard though. Loved seeing you play what you heard, it made me feel like I was in music class. This was a stunner arranged by Tim. He said it was the first arrangement he ever did. I remember seeing Chris describe it as pretty straightforward until Austin wails at the end. That cracked me up. You will love I’ll be Home for Christmas.
Glad you got to this one! I think like pentatonics they really excel with Christmas songs. A simple but beautiful way to arrange it. Simply beautiful! See what I did there. Blend unmatched! And the last note when they all came together sounded like a perfect cord played on an organ! Hope you get to Tim’s originals, full of cheer for a good chuckle and snow globe ( a country Christmas song). Thanks for the great breakdown and love to see it when you ALMOST run out of words for something Home Free does! Low bass Kenneth!
Jen I hit your channel every day for years and I love watching you watch Home Free.! You have so much fun that I do too.! I've always loved group harmony and Alabama and The Eagles were probably my favorites until Home Free came along.! They're the best.! Love your show.!
I simple love your reaction, the surprises on your face is priceles. You always leave me wanting another reaction. Merry Christmas & happy holidays!!!!!!!!
Great reaction as always!! I saw them back on the 1st and they sang this one!! It was AH-MAZ-ING!!! Austin’s run at the end is my favorite part of the song and he didn’t disappoint!!! I recorded it, so if you need it, just let me know!! 😉😁
It is (almost) a year later - and I haven't watched this yet, either. This being for the reason that I have only half a year ago gotten into the world of the great three American Acapella groups ... started with Home free, kind of took notice of Pentatonics and am now stuck with frickin voiceplay and Home Free. Stuck as a forever prisoner of male-voice appreciation coupled with the two most amazing bass singers I ever heard (even counting those Russian Choirs my mother played in days of yore).
Chris has said that he usually took the lead when Tim sang lead when performing live but when they recorded, Tim was known to double up. You can hear this in the Butts Remix. Thats the benefit of recording vs singing live. But now with Chance, they have two traditional basses that can cover the rang (where as Chris is more of a Baritone)
Chris usually was doing bassline when Tim sang. Austin said that he had to try to lose his southern accent when he did musical theatre so he was very happy that he could relax a little bit when he joined Home Free because during and after The Sing-Off they were considered country acapella, so the accent was ok.
Chris would certainly cover the bass when Tim sang lead in live performances. However, in an interview Chris did with I think reactor QoFy, he said Tim sang both lead and bass line in recordings.
If you want to hear Adam sing an entire verse check out Little St Nick on Russell Wolff productions channel. It’s cute how the rest of the group point to Adam to make sure everyone knows that it’s Adam that is actually singing. So good!
Great reactions Jennifer! If you liked this one, then you have to listen to this one by them. Home Free - Angels We Have Heard On High. Please check it out, it will blow you away. Have a great day!
Okay, I was right! Your reaction was, as always, enjoyable AND informative. I always learn something from every reaction you do. As with Peter and Elizabeth, you are not only very knowledgeable, you are ALSO able to share in a way that "we" understand and enjoy your commentary. Great reaction to a beautifully performed classic! If I had to choose between the Home Free version and the VoicePlay version, I would need a quarter to flip. Great reaction, Jennifer, and have a great Holiday Season!
An excellent reaction as always Jen. You always point out things that I haven’t noticed before (or paid attention to) no mater how many times I’ve listened to a song. Plus your enthusiasm is so much fun to watch. Thanks
Wonderful analysis of a gorgeous version, it is lovely when they morph into an organ. Chris Rupp has a great bass and he held down bass for Tim, Chris and Seventh Ave cover Mary Did You Know and you can hear a lot of his range.
Chris would certainly sing bass when Tim sang lead in live performances. However, in an interview I think with reactor QoFy, Chris said that Tim would usually sing both bassline and lead in recordings.
Always enjoy your analysis, but when the camera focused on Chris, you smiled. Chris sings bass when Tim sings. My fave song sung by Chris is his version of Amazing Grace-oh my❤
Chris would certainly cover the bassline when Tim sang lead in live performances. However, in an interview with I think reactor QoFy, Chris said Tim would usually sing both lead and bassline in recordings.
Ah... my 2nd favorite Christmas carol by HF! (1st being Do You Hear What I Hear.) Just love the harmonies and the beautiful cascading "Fall..." However, the nose wrinkle... here I thought it was Austin being his usual self, flirting with the camera! Another myth blown! 😂 Merry Christmas, Jen! 🎄
Chris Rupp usually covered Bass when Tim was doing a high harmony or taking a lead. Chris said he felt he wasn't a consistent bass but he had the notes and ability to access them when needed.
Chris would certainly sing bass when Tim sang lead in live performances. However, in an interview I think with reactor QoFy, Chris said that in recordings Tim would sing both lead and bassline.
Jennifer! Yes! More Home Free! I don't *think* I've heard this one. Aaaaaand the first claws of happiness at 6:49! I get your comparison to Country Roads ... a couple of those chords (right before the claws) there were somewhat barbershop quartet-ish. At 11:20 ... a box of tissues for Christmas? You've needed a box of tissues for a LONG time! 😂 And at 18:30 another quick claw of happiness, just before the chef's kiss. And at 21:14 another claw! And yet again at 26:39. At least a 4 claw performance by HF. These boys can sing a little bit can't they? 😁 Poor Jen was a bit wrecked there at the end with an empty tea cup and no tissues. Great job HF and amazing reaction and analysis Jen! 😊
Tim arranged this for his a cappella group when he was in high school. Every time I listen to it, I'm amazed what a talented teenager he was.
Just amazing ❤
He’s been amazing his whole life! But then his mom is so talented too
@Vicki - Ooh! Please share more about Tim's Mom! I am envious of you folks that know the Home Free fellas as their friends, and not just the amazing artists that they are!
I love that there's an actual singing explanation for Austin's nose crinkles - I've been watching reactions to this for probably 4 years at this point, and you're the first one who's explained them.
someone once mentioned in passing that their might be a vocal reason, but they didn't explain it at all. I was glad to hear this explanation.
It's also because he's in love with the camera. And we don't mind at all!!! 😂❤❤❤
Thanks for the laugh Jennifer. You sat back taking it in, leaned forward and then when I expected analysis I was given a task instead.😂 You know I've got you and next time, you're going with me.❤
Hahahha for sure!! Enjoy it! Thank you 😁
One more you don't want to miss is Angels we have heard on high. It's stunning too
Spot on!!! The ending is superb
I agree too, it is truly Beautiful !!
I've often said that noone channels a church pipe organ like Home Free. Great reaction as usual!😊
Austin's "Oh Night" nose wrinkle is EVERYTHING!

Tim's beautiful arrangement!! Austin sounds like an angel! They all do. Magical

Adam could have been singing the low Part too. He's got An amazing voice And has a really wide range. He just likes beatboxing better
@@MaKettle111 I agree. He probably could, but I don’t think he does…
Love your reactions, Jen.
I love how you're absolutely physically blown away by Austin's high belt. That part gives me chills every. single. time.
Jen your facial expressions are amazing in this song. Your reaction made me feel like I was hearing it again for the first time. Thank you for sharing your reactions. # HOMEFREE.
Even after as many HF reactions as Jen has done, they still re able to stun her. What's better than a cross-eyed Jen?

So beautiful ❤
They do such a beautiful version of this song. This is a favorite of mine for sure. I really enjoy watching your reaction and analysis to their songs.
I always get excited when you drop a new Home Free reaction, especially this one. Thanks Jen
He does this every time….lol I was waiting on you to say that😮 This was a beautiful arrangement by Tim😊 I love Honey Free❤ Great reaction, as usual🎉
Although I've seen most of the videos you're reacting too, I quite enjoy watching your facial expressions all over the place! lol
