"You can't please everyone, so you gotta please yourself" - From Garden Party, by Rick Nelson. 99.9 percent of us are here to see your reactions, the way you want to present them. If somebody doesn't like that, they have a plethora of other choices, or they can continue to complain and hopefully be ignored, as this is still a (mostly) free country. I'm a fan, so you go ahead and be you.
Awesome reaction, no surprise that home free crushed it. I had not really noticed the way they adjusted the BV's for each lead singer in the first one, that was cool although it is not a surprise coming from Home Free. Jewel is pretty awesome and has a really intriguing back story that you might enjoy looking into. There is a video out there where a team dressed her in a disguise and had her singing her own songs at a karaoke bar.
You know Austin had a serious case of hero worship going when Shawn Stockman (Boyz II Men) came in. He said during Season 4 that he grew up emulating Shawn's voice.
I think this is one of the best things they've done. Those bell tones just kill me every time. And, yes, DEFINITELY Christmas at the end. Thanks for the always informative and entertaining reactions.
It’s so good. It’s about Vincent Van Gogh, the painter who took his life. He suffered from mental illness. Such a beautiful video with them performing in front of his paintings. Don sounds great for 78! The song is 50 years old. So beautifully done by the boys too! 🤩😃
I absolutely love how supportive HF is, especially Austin, of his band mates. You can see Austin looking at Rob and smiling the whole time. He is truly happy at how talented Rob is. You can see Austin looking at Tim in awe over the bass in Skull & Bones live. Good people that can still be happy to be a part great music with no competition or jealousy.
The judges for that season were Shawn Stockman (member of Boyz II Men), Jewel (folk/country singer-songwriter), and Patrick Stump (lead singer of Fall Out Boy).
The judges who sang here were Shawn Stockman from the 90's group Boyz II Men, Jewel, is a well-known country/folk singer and songwriter. and Patrick Stump is the lead singer for the group Fall Out Boy. Nick Lachey, lead singer for boy band 98 Degrees.
I do not remember seeing this on the Sing Off........was Home Free on more than the one season they won because Ben Folds was the 3rd judge not Patrick Stump. (Was wondering who that was when he came out)
@@tosweet68 This was on season 5 of The Sing-Off, and Patrick was a judge for that, which was the last season of Sing-Off. Home Free came back as return guest performers in season 5, that's why Austin's hair was longer and he had some facial hair. PTX won season 3 and came back in season 4 for performance and gave some advice to Home Free as well in their season 4, so they did the same and were called back in the 5th season.
You know I love every thing Home Free does, but this is at the top of the list. I love that Rob and Austin took times on this one, so soulful. The harmonies!! It's such a great, iconic song anyway, but this is special.
Thanks for a GREAT reaction to Home Free's "Stand by Me"! And I get what you mean by "Christmas"! This was a gift to us by Home Free. They always give us their all in their music.
I noticed in this viewing that Tim moved his mic for those short stabs with the third soloist. I love that Adam provided an additional harmony during the breakdown in the recent version. I think he adds a fifth note to that last "Ooooo" as well. And those handoffs between Austin and Rob - wow!
Thanks Jen, again a fabulous, detailed and spirited reaction to this Home Free version of this iconic Ben E. King song from the early 60's. The song itself is simple, but very catchy, and HF elevates it to a brilliant level. ❤❤❤
Singing knowledge & talent aside. You are off the scale with beauty. Incredible face. Gorgeous English Woman. Love it when you sport a serious look. Love that analysis of a note of an earlier video & you hit it & freaked yourself out
Thanks for unwrapping this song for me (like a... Christmas present huhu). Honestly sometimes there's songs that I just find meh until someone pauses it and forces me to listen to parts over and over while telling me what's so good about it. This was one of those songs. I was like 'yeah, it's good. It's Home Free, of course it's gonna sound good... but would I listen to it over and over? Nah- probably not.' But then vocal coaches come in and tell me what I'm (duh obviously) missing and it makes the song ten times better. My brain isn't wired to handle nuance. Either I get overwhelmed or barely whelmed, so these are very useful to me. Although I will say... Rob's voice in this... it's a definite highlight. We know he can sing, and he's smooth like butter, but damn. Sometimes it catches you off guard.
One of the songs I have been listening to for as long as I can remember. (I'm from 1963) First the LP, later I always had it on one of my cassette tapes, then I got the CD and in recent years I usually have it on one of my playlists. Although many versions had been released in the meantime, it was usually the version by Ben E. King or Otis Redding. But from now on it is the version of Home Free that is on my playlist and no other. Alternating the lead between Austin's powerful voice and Rob's silky soulful voice just sounds so beautiful and fantastic. Then the unparalleled vocal percussion, truly phenomenal. The great bass and beautiful harmony are the finishing touch.
It’s great to hear Austin’s wonderful voice in the lead and then switching to robs voice taking the lead!! Great harmonies…I’m always intrigued by the locations they chose…warehouse, church, barn or quonset shed as in this video All have unique reverberations! I’m so glad that we visited there a time on the Sing Off
I am here for your reactions of Home Free and am always satisfied with your reactions over the top gaining a perspective I would not have gotten anywhere else. Thank You Jen!!! ❣ Home Free is amazing and they do so many things uniquely with their interpretations that just make it ear candy every time!!!! 💟
Good R&A as usual! Thanks for doing both versions. I personally am not a fan of the first one. I didn't like how HF was demoted to BV. Nothing against the judges and host; they just took the spotlight away from HF. But, their new version... wow! Absolutely beautiful. I love how seamlessly Austin and Rob traded lines back and forth at the end. And Austin & Rob singing duet - gorgeous!
Have you heard this version of Stand By Me from their 2009 album Kickin’ It Old School? Rob has the entire lead. The members at that time are original members Chris Rupp, Adam Rupp, and Matt Atwood (high/lead tenor), plus Rob Lundquist and Elliot Robinson (bass). ua-cam.com/video/N_kJ55FdNkQ/v-deo.htmlsi=pUGVbBKhDhH1ZIOg
Jen I so enjoy your reactions even though I don't understand half of what you're saying my last music class was 50 years ago and also absolutely love your facial expressions switching from your serious expression to your beautiful smile your face is so expressive
Thanks for the double feature! I had not seen this version from the "Sing Off". The judges & host kind of took over. I much prefer Home Free on their own. I love this great classic song from Ben E. King back in 1961. The Home Free guys did an awesome version as always. Love their arrangement on this cover. Great vocal leads by Austin & Rob. Tim's bass really stands out for me in this one. And Adam's tasteful vocal percussion is on point.
Jenn you are so entertaining! I was surprised you didn't know who Jewel is. I didn't know the other two either. Thanks for the video. You rock. Stay well and be happy.
Girl -- you make these (R&As) so fun; part of that being that you're into 'em as much as we are : ). And yes, HF is Christmas all year 'round!!!! And I ain't mad about it... The non-commercialized Christmas that is. Thanks girl - much appreciated. Be Safe
Finally! I've been waiting for your reaction to this since the song was released, Jen. You know what you are talking about and you always show me things I hadn't heard before no matter how long I've been listening to the song. Thank you!
Yep, Christmas! Hahaha. I knew you’d love it. So good. I loved those bell tones and the slowed down part and yes, I heard that “water drop” sound?! Adam is so freaking good. The first version kinda bothered me a little. The judges were trying to one up each other I thought. I knew Nick Lachey, Jewel, Shawn Stockman (of Boyz II Men) but didn’t know the guy with the hat. Anyway, love the new one with just our guys. I think they sang it the way it should be. Good one as always Jen. You always hear more than I can hear, love it!🥰😄
I think Austin and Chance make a nice blend on BVs, as do Rob and Chance. I love when they do-wop. It such an old way to sing, but they have given it a newer sound. I’m so pleased you did The Sing-Off version too because it still shows how they have matured in their sound. Thanks for your spot-on analysis, Jenn, and for the laughs. It’s always a pleasure!
It's wonderful to see Ben E. King's classic revived for new generations. The singing, harmonies & beatboxing, as always, are terrific. No frills or theatrics - just letting the music speak for itself. Insofar as someone who doesn't like it - who's forcing them to watch? BTW, Austin also has a solo version of the song on his channel. In the live videos I get hypnotized watching their hand & eye contacts.
Not sure I’ve seen anyone mention who all the judges and host are from The Sing-Off. The host is Nick Lachey, from 98 degrees. Then Shaun Stockman is from Boyz II Men, Jewel is a multi-Grammy country vocalist, and then Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy
Christmas? I guess I get the reference. You are rapidly becoming my favorite reaction video host. I love your humor and love of music. Especially Home Free.
Love this version!! You should also listen to their older version (pre- Tim, Austin, and Chance) from their "Kickin' It Old School" album, from 2009. Theres no video, just the audio track. Rob sings lead the whole song with the older HF backing members but it's really pretty and done really well. I truly love watching you emote everything you hear. Just the last note alone I think you went through 5 different emotions; a different face for each guy! 😄👍 Loved your reaction, as always!! ❤
I'll never understand people getting upset at a reaction channel pausing. I can listen to the original any time but I come here to hear your opinions and insights
I agree with thanks for the double feature! If I am not mistaken they sung with the judges on this song as guests on the following year after they won. Not sure! To see how much they have developed in many areas but are still just as true to themselves as they were then! Adam Chance really jells with their tight harmony! Adam Rupp really shined in the new version as well. Loved your reactions to dissonance in the cords and great breakdown with even the judges. Continue using the sing-off first, helps us see the difference and progress! Low bass Kenneth Ps. Your subs are getting better!
great reaction as always. i thought Tims bass line was so special, your bass line is getting better.lol you always put a smile on my face , thank yuo !!!!!!!!!
Great video Jen! Just wanted to take a second to inform you that all of the judges to ever be on the sing off were professionals :) The first judge that sang in the song is Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men (Home Free has done a cover of their "End of the Road" and I highly recommend), the second judge is Jewel, who they sang "Oh, Pretty Woman" to (I'm not sure if she had any super notable songs but she has a very lovely voice), and the third judge is Patrick Stump, lead singer of Fall Out Boy (this explains why his verse was much more "harsh" than the others). And it seemed like you knew who Nick Lachey was lol
I would have to agree... Christmas! This was just incredible. The way they switched off and took turns with the lead and then Tims bass notes in the background making my toes curl...yummy. I loved this one so much!!!!!
Oh what a masterpiece of a song and how it changed over the decades. Still remember the "old" style version sung by Elvis, then the "new" version by Ben E. King, which was produced in the 60's but became popular again in the 80's again at a time together with other famous songs like "caravan of love" when I was in my mid 20s. I found the older HF version at the competition ok but not really special. However the actual HF version is once more a masterpiece by itself. Thanks a lot for the reaction, Jen. ❤
I'm not sure if you've done a reaction to Tim's cover of "Can't help falling in love", if not, I'd love to see you react to that one. And as always, Tim just nails that one to near perfection.
Thank you for your lovely reaction. The Sing-Off version by the Judges was soooo over the top. LOVE HF'S version here. They beautifully sing the pleading call to "Stand By Me". The harmonies and tasteful embellishments certainly are a feast for the ears.
Been watching your reactions for a long time now...love 'em and keep coming back. One of the best things about you is your spot-on expertise at technically examining so well what's happening musically, while at the same time, after all this time, your sheer joy at just experiencing the performance...sometimes you stop the analysis and just say..." I LOVE this!" Well, Jen, I LOVE this about you! 👍
Dear Jen, thank you for always pointing out interesting details and making me appreciate songs I’ve loved my entire life even more. About the “Christmas-notes” I know exactly what you’re talking about, I’ve said the same thing and gotten the same response 😂
Don't forget that Tim can do almost whistle notes! He used to be part of a group that performed on cruise ships. There were like 3 or 4 actual groups and they'd be on separate ships. Performers turned over often & Tim taught the parts to those new members, whether they were Tenor I or the lowest bass. And his college degree was in MATH! He taught math for many years & did music on the side! I know me as a young girl - if my teacher looked & sounded like Tim, math would've quickly become my favorite class! 😉
''So if I pause'', listening to your reactions always makes me enjoy. Thank you for always making me smile alright back to Home Free now, these guys are good and the way you explain in detail about what's happening vocally is helpful and fun especially the way you tried to imitate Tim Foust was hilarious. This was good, thank you so much
I used to be a member of the International barber shoppers Society, The hand motions Tim is doing is typical of acapella singers. It's a habit developed during rehearsals as we try to figure out our notes. You see Rob do it s well. In their performance of "Elvira" with the Oakridge Boys Rob does it when they make a key change.
the highlight of my day...watching Jenn imitate Tim Foust.... absolutely AWESOME!!! Thanks Jenn!!!🎉🎉
Also imitate Geoff from Voiceplay for subharmonic and other bass register.
I think he is her big brother LOL. Great job as always Jen!
Here, here!!❤

Imagine walking down a street with these guys standing on a corner, just grooving.... Or having them Christmas Carol in front of your window....
Love the song and HF! Austin and Rob did a terrific job on the leads, and then they throw in a small duet....WOW! Their harmonizing is so beautiful!

You should look into the growl technique because that’s what Tim uses, not subharmonics. Tim is so advanced with the growl technique
Tim's the one singing the high notes during the chorus too.
Absolutely gorgeous. A new favorite! Agree about Jewel; "Who will save your soul" or "Foolish Games". (Live versions)

Awesome analysis! 😄 I love their version of the song! Always a pleasure to listen to you break it down! They way you imitate the guys, lol
Thank you for your lovely reaction. The Sing-Off version by the Judges was soooo over the top. LOVE HF'S version here. They beautifully sing the pleading call to "Stand By Me". The harmonies and tasteful embellishments certainly are a feast for the ears.
Jen, your Home Free reactions/analyses are “must watch” for me now…thanks!
Great as usual Jen .....
legends. Sincere reaction; you are the extra dimension..
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
Just love this song and video. These boys just get better and better.💗💗💗
Oh good. Not just me hahah!
Always fantastic reactions. But this one had some absolutely adorable moments. Well done ma'am
Love you doing both! Keep doing what YOU want because we love you!
This was good, thank you so much
Loved it!
In my arrogant opinion, this is so much better than the judges showcase on sing-off
The end was definitely Christmas.
I love it when they feel free to 'direct' themselves. I'm not sure Tim can help it, but the others will fall into it, too.
