I am so excited for Imperial Reign. The smaller scaling is honestly a breath of fresh air because most EaW mods focus on throwing hundreds of units on screen at once. I also *really* like the idea of taking inspiration from Squadrons for how starfighters should function because it plays into what we are shown in the movies.
The problem is that rebel cells weren't usually that big. Having to balance a dozen disunited single planet factions would be difficult. Cis holdouts could work though.
At the end of the Video he says getting more Bomber types via expanding the coalition (5:15 in the video). I think with that you bring more cells into the alliance and uniting them that way
I love the idea of interceptors having missile interception which is something straight out of Battlestar Galactica and it’s Vipers acting as extra point defense for their carriers
I've wondered. Has the thought occurred to scale up capital ships such Imperial Star Destroyers to appear similar in size on the screen to what Super Star Destroyers looked like in Thrawn's Revenge? That way the game would be even more focused on frigate size vessels, with cruisers being the equivalent of capital ships comparatively. Having a single Imperial Star Destroyer appear on screen would really give you that lump-in-the-throat feeling you typically experienced in the older flight sim games and Squadrons. I really like what I'm seeing here though and I expect this to become a new favorite.
I hope that boarding shuttles will be more common in this due to how it happpend more often during this era, ie the Rebels stealing imperial ships or the imperials having to board rebel ships, it would also make ion torpedos somewhat more important as if i remember correctly you can only board when shields are down.
It would be cool if Imperial boarding shuttles counted as an insta-kill/long term stun mechanic rather than a capture mechanic seeing as the Empire didn't really use captured ships like the rebellion did.
Mentioning the ability to edit fighter loadouts in Imperial Reign makes me want it in the other mods too lol. Even if the engagements are purposely smaller in Imperial Reign to accomodate this more, I'd still love the ability to completely micromanage my larger fleets in TR/FOTR/RR in such a way as well.
For a split second I thought this video was just announcing a special option for patrons/channel members to name/select loadouts for campaigns on the channel, happy to see that Imperial Reign will be diverging from TR and FoTR
This is an awesome addition! I really appreciate the greater focus on fighters/bombers/interceptors, and especially the ability to change the bomber loadout.
Ngl Corey, you and the team behind EAW expanded mods deserve multiple awards. You've done so much to make this one of the best games ever IMO. If your team stopped making updates today, I'd still be playing this a decade from now. So much fun. Great work!
Hope it will be the same for the ground battle, relying more on the infantry and light vehicle than large combin arms battle, with a real interest having elite infantry like stormcommando and specforce, could be a nice opportunity to use the vast plethora of imperial forces and rebels cells
This looks amazing! I love the focus on fighter combat and smaller scale battles with the huge set pieces being rare/special, should really make it feel more like the Rebellion compared to the massive battles as the New Republic, and of course the modifiable loadouts are an awesome idea, I never would’ve thought you could do that in an EaW mod. Very excited for this, I’ll be eagerly following the progress…
so obviously, Imperial Reign covers the Era just after the end of the Clone Wars.... but will it cover throughout the Galactic Civil War (and thus be an expanded "remake" of EaW) or does it literally end at A New Hope? Edit: I am going to assume from the video in the background that it does cover the whole GCW
@@CoreyLoses neat, thanks for the prompt answer. so it means that while it wouldn't be perfectly accurate to Canon or Legends, we WILL be able to do a kind of "Mega-Campaign" by playing the mods in Chrono order
@lanteanboy The Devs have mentioned that Canon and Legends will be separate in IR, with no mention thus far of mashing them together. This way you could have Legends campaigns like the Reconquest of the Rim and Zaarin's Rebellion, or Canon Campaigns like the Lothal campaign for example
I actually appreciate how the combat unit cap for battles will be lower than TR and FotR. It will give loses in battle more punch and value to your choices in force composition!
I dig the smaller scale! I do hope theres a submod for more ships just for shits and giggles but I'm excited that a new GCW mod is coming that can be more casual friendly vs something like AOTR which is not that. I am curious to see how ground combat works since its very gurrilla based with some large scale engagement. It'd be cool to build a select number of pathfinder/spec ops soldiers for raiding and being able to build an Alliance army
Yeah I've been trying to think about how to make a countermeasures system work to make fighters more viable (especially because I want to do a mixed system of missiles that do and missiles that don't penetrate shields). I'm not sure a passive point defense is the way to go, but it's not something I want to make super micromanage-y. I wonder if it's possible to do an lua script that responds to missiles/proton torpedoes firing against another fighter? But the way the actual mechanics of weapons work in the code is more like an MMO than Squadrons, i.e. it's just simple yes/no variables and the animation that plays is a response to that. So I dunno, it's a hard thing to build a route around...
The way weapons in EaW work are actual modeled projectiles as individual objects acting with their own properties not percentile based hitscan or something. You cannot, however, do a Lua script to do what you're saying. You can't detect the elements you would need to.
My brain right now is just like "HOW HAS NO ONE THOUGHT OF THIS YET?!" Like, Mind Blown right now. Such a good feature. Who needs a Sequel _The Sequal is now_ .
you mentioned in another comment that this mod will also cover the early days of the empire, so i'm curious. Since the pre-ANH era had a much less orginized and armed rebellion, which very rarely committed to full on battles with the Empire, will that be in any way represented in gameplay? Or will it be like vanila/most other mods where the two sides are more equal?
There was plenty of armed uprisings before Yavin (some bigger and more open than post-Yavin, leading to bigger crackdowns) but EaW only works with factions on relatively similar footing. The disparities are represented in gameplay with the factional mechanics and context rather than by giving the Empire 90% of the forces and territory or something.
Hi corey. I dont know if you will see this, but there is a bug in the sandbox mode where empire of the hand ships dont attack, move, or use their weapons unless you are controlling them, meaning if you want to fight them in the sandbox mode they kinda just sit and the ai doesnt attack you. How many factions would this mod be covering? Or is it just imp, rebel and cartel/black sun factions? Would one be allowed to incorporate some of the many heroes and minor faction groups shown in thrawn's revenge to serve bigger roles like a story of sorts?
How limited will the unit pool be for the Imperials? With all the different Imperial units in Thrawn's, and with all the overlap, I imagine many units will be cut for balance. Personally, I hope you keep as many units as possible to allow Imperial fleet comps to be highly diverse.

Revan's Revenge is in beta right now. I'm not sure what faction you're saying is being made more playable in IR when this is literally the only mechanic announced for it and it's for both factions.
@ every update is made and it just makes one faction specifically more playable. The ai for that faction suddenly becomes more powerful than every other faction.
