On your Amazon photo gear list it says you're using a GH5 plus PanaLeica lenses. Is that still the case? Mainly manual focus then or how do you cope with the somewhat strange autofocus at times? Thanks for sharing your thoughts and this episode 🌈🍀🤘👍
Good question, thanks for commenting and asking. In short, no, GH5 should be replace with LUMIX S5. I'll update that when I have a moment. The manual focus on the S5 (and GH5) is digital. So I still depend on the camera to "automatically" focus on a point that I select. In a touch of the button, the camera focuses on that point and stays there. 99% of the time, my drive-by scenes are only focused on a very specific part of the road. The Jeep enters that focused area, and then passes out of focus. It yields a pleasing effect, and I don't have to worry about auto-focus hunting around in a cloud of dust. I also use the LUMIX app for my phone to focus in the same manner. For instance, if I'm in the frame , but far away from the camera, I'll set focus to manual, tap on myself as I appear on the screen on my phone, and then the camera will focus on me. I've come to trust the face detection auto-focus feature more. It's more reliable on the S5 than it was on the GH5 and I do occasionally use that if I'm hustling and don't have time to manually lock in focus myself. I very rarely use auto-focus, because it's unreliable and as you said, "strange." However, I'm really, really happy with the LUMIX cameras, and I think the overall capabilities of the S5 more than make up for mediocre auto-focus tech. Sorry for the wall of text :).
@@venture4wd cheers mate for the indepth reply. I enjoy reading elaborate messages and yours is such. Thanks for taking the time to respond, especially in the context of the "driving by"-scene discription. Great informations there. I noticed your video work and composition to be outstanding. Makes quite a difference. I greatly enjoy the Lumix system also, but still on M43. Just love the G9 and GH5 (which I hardly use after the huge G9 videocentric firmware upgrade). M43 lenses are stellar (coming from Canon FF, I know their L-lenses...) and cropfactor 2 helps a lot in the long focal range department. Sure, not that much of a shallow depth of field, but hey, Voigtlander f0.95 is your friend when in need of seperation... :-) Btw, I love your new double vehicle setup! Great, looking forward to watching more of your adventures. So, hows that for a wall of text :-) Take care and stay healthy!
If you want spot on autofocus i recommend Sony. It is top notch. I personally use Fujifilm but if I was filming myself it would be an easy choice to go Sony.

Must be West coastal. I got my notification around noon. North East. Used to look forward to Saturday morning coffee and watching Chris do his thing, but its been a little inconsistent lately. Love this channel.
Chris, a cheap Harbor Freight torque wrench and the socket that fits your lug nut would be better than hand tightening to an unknown torque. I lost a front wheel because I did not do this. Luckily not going fast when the wheel studs broke. Lug nuts will always need to be retorqued after a wheel removal and replacement, usually after a few hundred miles. Off road travel also makes this necessary occasionally. Having a spare set of studs and lug nuts for 1 wheel (2 if front and rear are different) is a good idea for remote back country explorers. Torque wrench also give leverage to easily tighten to recommended torque, nice for removing too. Another great video. Thanks
Chris the problem with your wheel maybe a light layer of corrosion on the matting surfaces of the rim and the rotor or hub assemble it is normally easy to buff off with a wire wheel. I always enjoy your videos great work my youtube friend.
As always, Chris, exceptional content! Seeing that Jeep wander through those back trails, is as magical as watching a vintage Ferrari navigate Laguna Seca! There is nothing better!!
The studs are stretched on your jeep. It's from overtightening the lugs, (usually from the four way wrench). Four way wrenches put to much shear on the studs. The studs can be replaced to solve the problem. Buy a torque wrench.
The Jeep owners manual give the wheel torque as 100 ft lbs, and recommends rechecking after 25 miles. Standing on the lug wrench is going to overtighten the lugs and stretch the studs. It could also warp the wheel. Just sayin .
I think I would try some new lug nuts and maybe go as far as replacing the studs in hub. You drive enough on rough roads that it is probably a good protocol to break out the lug wrench and snug them up. I agree with other’s comments that over tightening is not good.

Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing your travels Chris. Your videos have been a great distraction during my quarantine. Looking forward to enjoying some outdoor activities soon.
I always check the Torque of my lug nuts after my vehicle has been to a tire shop, BUT I use a high quality Torque Wrench to make sure the lug nuts have the proper torque since if you OVER TORQUE them (easy to do with a 4-way lug wrench). It can actually STRETCH the lugs, especially if done several times over a period of time. This can eventually be detrimental and might even crack the hub and other components. Ask me how I know ...
Hi Chris. Great episode, thanks for getting us outdoors virtually. It would be wonderful to be able to take s trip like that. I've noticed the same issue with loosening wheel nuts but only on aftermarket wheels. The solution was to back off the nuts and, with the weight off of the wheel for the first go round tighten to the correct torque in 3 progressive stages and on alternating nuts (not sequentially like you did) then drive a few miles and retorque them if needed to the full specs. That fixed the issue and no loose wheel nuts for months of driving after. Having a torque wrench is worth it's cost, much cheaper than loosing a wheel or wrecking the studs!
Chris, One thing I enjoy about your videos is the feel of an adventure documentary. Tips on gear, accessibility, and a touch of historical background. Cool, safe travels Perry
When I worked at a tire shop, we always had people with Al wheels come back in 100 miles for a re-tourque. These wheels are a soft metal, and require another tightening after some driving.
I think your jeep is awesome, but its the overall content that keeps me coming back week after week Chris, I look forward your adventures in either of your vehicles. All the best Mate!
It’s not just your wheels. Anytime you have a wheel removed and re-installed you should re-torque the lugs after a few miles. And over tightening them by standing on the lug wrench is a good way to snap a stud off.
Get a torque wrench and torque those lugs to 100 ft lbs anytime they've been in the shop. The shop should be doing this but it sounds like they aren't. Don't wait for them to get loose. Do it once a week if you have issues. The wheel is driven by friction against the mounting surface, not the lugs. If the wheel is loose it can sheer the lugs right off. That's why correct torque, which creates the clamping force is key. Get a torque wrench!
just wanted you to know ,i really enjoy your videos. all the extra work that goes into taking a 30 second shot is amazing . enjoy your adventurs and be safe

I realize you’ve replaced the rims now. The clicking noise is a result of the need to re-torque lug nuts after 100 kms after tire change/service. This is very normal. I live in Canada and do the seasonal tire change twice a year. It’s pretty standard knowledge amongst most vehicle owners that lugs need to be re-torqued after 100kms. Tire Shops print that requirement on the invoice as well. They should be torqued to factory spec and not over tightened either. Perhaps a tip that may come handy down the lane. Until then, happy trails and wishes from my family from Canmore, AB who love watching your UA-cam channel.
BTW I’m the same build as you and I’ve snapped lugs off with those 4 ways. They put a lot of stress on lugs especially when you use your foot ,like done in the past😂😂😂😂😂

Get yourself a torque wrench and cross tighten to your jeeps torque spec can't just go from one lug nut to the next, those lug nuts were loose enough to require cross tighten pattern. After every time your tires come off they are supposed to be retorqued usually 100 kms. This is extremely important on aluminum rims but clearly important for your jeep too.
