Wow!!! That lead solo and also the sound is spot on!!! Can only imagine the amount of time that went into the sound design and practice of the solo... great work!!!
Yeah, early ARP Odysseys had a pitch knob, yes a rotary knob, not those pressure pads later ones had. He bumped this while playing but decided to keep this section. You can read this in his book Possibilities.
Can you confirm that the sound you introduce at 0:21 is emulated Clavinet with Wah? How does Herbie get that sound? What other effects besides Wah does he use?
Yes. It’s a real clavinet. Hohner E7, with a wah pedal. I think Herbie used a Hohner D6. I also believe Herbie used an Echoplex for the delay on the ARP.
how'd you learn this with all the effects and such? looking over Herbie's shoulder?! hha ive listened to the original so many times and you play it so close.. wild
You are a genius... u literally copied one of the most complex solos in the history of music... the thing is this solo is so hard because of the feel...

This is so helpful for learning how to make these sounds with my Arp Odyssey. Thank you 🙏
First time I see someone nail this distinct lead sound. Awesome 💯🙏🏼✌🏼
Amazing. Herbie said that out of key part at the end was a mistake and kept it.
