As Ash says, Sean Connery was quite a big guy at about 6.2 (which made him about an inch shorter than moi😃) But there is a scene in the film 'Never Say Never Again' where Sean gets roughed up by a villain played by the wrestler Pat Roach. I seem to remember that he made Sean seem fairly ordinary in size - so the man must have been a freaking giant! EDIT According to Wikipedia Roach was, in fact, 6.5...
Beautiful shoes, Mr. Ash. I am also slightly below 5'10 I could see myself wearing these shoes. Their double monk Sorrento looks absolutely stunning. You're doing us tremendous favor with all these videos. Keep them coming, sir!
They sell height boosting insoles on ebay for less than £20 a pair which may be a good alternative. I will say first however, before wanting to enhance your height that it is important to feel enough without them before you feel enough with them. We are not all tall, some of us like myself are short but every gentleman is of high value regardless of stature & status
I'm 5'10 and happy with my height. Do taller men have a more commanding presence? A resounding 'yes'. Whilst not wishing to put down (no pun intended) any shorter chap who wishes to add a few inches of height for, you could argue, many reasons, I wonder what one does when the illusion of height is compromised as the shoes are taken off and put in trees for rotation/polishing....Not trying to be antagonistic to the notion of height enhancement rather pointing out an obvious issue for a chap who chooses this route. It's interesting: I have experience several occasions when a quite tall man has used his physicality in an intimidating way. You can often read someones character by the way they behave and use their size in a controlling way. I wonder whether we need to have conversations in the men's sartorial community about height and how we perceive taller and shorter man. Just a thought.....another video? Cheers Tony
It’s the club tie of the Japanese football team and was made by Alfred Dunhill. It’s a handmade, silk piece and is a beautiful tie - I bought it (unworn and still in wrapping) from eBay for £2.50. One of my better purchases.
Not something that I need myself (I’m the same height as ‘short Bond’, Daniel Craig!) but pleased to see a high quality manufacturer taking this seriously. While we’re here - how about an article on types of sole? I find Dainite gives me little extra grip, and is so stiff that my feet often ache. Commando soles are not suitable for a dress shoe, and if I turn in with hobnails, my wife will burn my boots in front of me. If you’ve done this already, a link to the video would be appreciated.
Shorter men should realize too that most great men in history were of shorter statur. Napoleon, Alexander the great, Winston Churchill and Frederic Russell Burnham. If you don't recognize the last name I recommend you look him up. A real adventurer. Cheers Ron
A very common problem that men ( & women ) have with their feet is plantar fasciitis. It’s got other common names as well. Gotta say that i recently bought some shoe inserts online from Foot Supports International. Forget about the others. Been there. Their products are incredible. Im running again. Lol
Speaking of the wedding scenario, my father did have a friend who famously stood on a stool for his wedding photos so he would seem the same height as his wife. Everyone had a good laugh about it, apparently, so no need to take these things too seriously. P. S. I can actually see myself trying these shoes for a wedding or another such occasion. But I can only imagine that being 3 inches taller around people I’ve known my whole life would give them a strange feeling. But up on a stage, when you’re some distance away from an audience, these will do perfectly.
Why would you compare the height of Guidomaggi to ‘no footwear’? Are you often going to formal occasions without footwear? Would have been much more illustrative to show ‘normal’ shoe vs. Guidomaggi. Truth is almost all format shoes at 1.5 - 2 inches, and you might not even notice the difference with these.
In every study where women are asked to rank male physical attributes, height is always at the top of the list. Women from all cultures around the world prefer taller men (everything else being equal). That said, AVOID ELEVATOR SHOES IF YOU ARE TRYING TO ATTRACT WOMEN. If it's one thing that women know it's shoes. Women will immediately know if you are wearing elevator shoes or lifts. If there's one thing that women find less attractive than a short guy, it's a short guy who is insecure about his height, and is trying to make himself look taller.
Thanks for this little video - this was really interesting, to me especially on a professional level. I personally am blessed with, erm, let me translate this to imperial... 6'1.62 (187cm) so while I don't need it as a boost I sometimes tend to add taller heels to my shoes. Not because I need to spit metaphorical onto people's heads and be a jerk but because it's so very much early 20th century to have taller heels. Of course it changes the whole longitudinal spread of the shoe and thus also your entire stance but this can also be beneficial. Not in the "high heel pes equinus" ("club foot" sounds so wrong, so here's Latin... 😅) outcome but in general more than the al too common sneaker spread...which is next to none... There are some small tells on this (excellent) shoe like the taller hindfoot and heel construction, but this could just as well be a style decision - I'm just conditioned to see this... but then I go to work every day shaking my head about all the worn down heels I see... I'm a nutcase🤣 - and it's invisible (as if anyone would notice anything at all...) anyway with a proper break of the trousers. It's very common to do these elevations by going 50/50 or 30/70 in/out in a shoe to get to it we tend to go as much inlay as possible because *we* usually don't have the stylish reason but it's usually a hip displacement and therefore one-sided. And in case this sounded weird (everything I write on shoes is...) or critical (it's decidedly *not* because...) to be completely clear: *I* do this just for the fun and vintage feel of it and therefore not exactly in a position to criticize anyone... even *if* I felt like it.. and I don't, this just touches on some work fields for me, so it's super interesting! Thanks for touching on these super interesting fields shoe-wise! Best regards Raoul G. Kunz
In 2019, I had two split toe derbys made to order from French Annonay leather and JR Soles with a raised top line. With height raising inserts and the heel they add 9cm. Very classic last. Looking to sell my lightly used UK9.5 burgundy pair - any suggestions where I could list them outside eBay?
A Chap should be confident in himself! A Chap ought not give in to ridiculous social pressures - lift shoes indeed! Next will be ridiculous wigs, obvious toupees and unsuccessful hair transplants - then, God forbid, it’s only a few more steps on the slippery-slope towards Monkey Glands! 😬
Both - the removable inserts determine the height adjustment and I was provided with both. The 2.4 feels more natuaral and comfortable for me personally.
I recommend wearing these shoes, a dark, slim, pinstripe suit, and a homburg. You should ideally tower over those around you to assert dominance, the true hallmark of the gentleman.
@@rayaraya9870 You will find, that finding a girlfriend has nothing to with height - but with humour, charisma, friendliness, vibrancy and having the ability to listen! Height does not come into it. And don't put yourself under pressure!
That pep talk at the end is what the world needs more of.

I'm just over 5'11", I do prefer shoes that put me just over 6ft, 6'1" preferably.

Do they do something similar for boxer shorts / underpants? Asking for a friend.

@@wodahs7775 Well, I suppose it makes it easier to reach stuff on the top shelf.
Terrible advice. Get some boots and wear them proudly. No one cares about 1-2 inches of fake height.

I am the same height as you. I was wondering if you had to have your pants adjusted because you are now 3 in taller?
No sir, the additional height is in the shoe, your leg remains the same length - the elevation in height is entirely invisible.

@RayaRaya: Wear a hat, as that will automatically add a few inches to your height. And on top of that, it's stylish as well!
