Smart 450 ForTwo car rear oil leak / non return valve NRV replacement

- In this video we look at the oil leak on the back of our Smart 450 ForTwo project car. It has started gushing oil out the top of engine somewhere and this seems to be due to crank case compression... and the number one culprit for this is the crank case breather pipe / non return valve ( NRV ) getting blocked. So we buy a new one. The part number for this pipe / valve assembly is here

Cheers for the video Simon and George. We had a Smart car, loved it. We towed it behind our Motorhome. Really miss it. A quick tip for you. If your clock stops working you can fix it by stripping it and re soldering the contacts. Apparently the vibrations break the solder over time. Stay safe.
I have a soft spot for the little Smart car... there is an electric on on Copart this week....
Hi. I have a 2006 CDI. How did you manage to tow yours? I hear that is not recommendable to tow them. I really want to be able to do it. thanks

Have a soft spot for these original Smart cars really original and quirky. Have thought of getting one as a little run around. Put me off somewhat with that really poor engine access 😀
Some jobs do require lowering the engine, which is not as scary as it sounds. Removing the bumper to change spark plugs seems excessive but its quick and easy to do. As a fun car I recomend it.
I had the same issue and oddly enough the valve had been glued too !
Good evening i also see oil coming oute from oil measurment stick hole .
i check this valve and it keeps stay open. I can blow air both ways.
If i change this valve u think the problem will be solved?
What a remarkable coincidence. I changed this valve on my smart today, it's called the partial load valve. Mine was not leasking oil, but I had read that a lot of Smart Car premature engine wear is caused by this valve so I ordered on a few weeks ago. As I was in the engine bay today fitting a new earth strap I decided to change this while I was in there. The bad news is that my carpet over the engine cover was wet again and I am sure its my rear windows. I seem to recall you were going to sell rear window seals, but I cannot see them on your website.

If that fix fails try cleaning out the egr valve they tend to clog up and get blocked with sludge
common it's found at the front on the right

I have not taken it out for a spin yet so not sure if its fixed... will pop out this afternoon ! Thanks for the advice.
Is it possible just to clean that valve and how? Because i can't buy it in my country.
Yes a quick clean with some solvent / brake cleaner may help !

Hmm...not sure I want a Smart car..A friend has a garage and specialises in these...he tells me they are fine up to about 55/60,000 miles then..run away fast!!!😱😱😱
