The western end of LAX used to be all 747's for decades. Nowadays it's mostly 777's and A380's. Truly an end of an era. Long live the Queen!
There will Never be anything as beautiful as the 747. Glad I had the opportunity to fly in one a few times.

Flew in and out of LAX several times on the 747's; 1994 & 1995 Philippine Airline, 1997 Korean Air (all round trips). The PAL trip was my first time on a 747.

Gorgeous! 3:05 just look at the front gear of the United 747, it touched down before the main landing gears.
Most underrated crappy landing
It reminded me of a FedEx MD-11 crash at Narita, which you can find if you search for it. Granted the MD-11 bounced a lot harder.

This was a time when the 747 was the dominate heavy at KLAX. Now in 2016 the 777 is the new dominated heavy.

It is. Some planes need them replaced to remain air worthy so they get whatever nose they can if they’re not at their hub.

What freaked you out? What did I miss at 2:48?
I thought exactly the same thing before I read the comments. The Lufthansa bird seemed to be going WAY too fast, and the United bird floated and then came down hard on the FRONT landing gear, which is not a great idea.
The British Airways pilot at the very start? That was a smooooth landing. :)

Are you sure this video is from 2001-I see the Cathay Pacific plane with the old livery and logo.From what I know Cathay Pacific had already changed to its' current logo and image by the mid 1990s.

The amazing thing is that the new 747-8 burns same amount of fuel as the 707 did in the 60's, while flying 3 times as many people or cargo.

Is it just me or do 747s look bigger than a380s
747's do look bigger at a glance, however A380s are bigger, the 747's are just longer. A380 is more spacious and bigger in terms of it having a larger wingspan and being a full doubledecker.
the 380 is short and stubby while the 47 is better proportioned.

A380 program is falling apart. The new B747-8 win his title again because is more reliable and use less full per passenger plus they can flight longer distance.
