Yeah I meant to say they were enslaved. However, technically they were enslaved by their own before they were sold to the white man. Unless you want to believe the white man was so powerful and strong that he was able to go into the various African countries and took whatever pleased him. That means you would be suggesting that Africans were a group of spineless fools. I rather believe they were enslave by their own people then sold to the White man .Bear in mind that the idea of slavery was not racially motivated prior to the 1600s . As matter of fact many races enslaved their own.

One dark ebony skinned Yardie Jamaican man asked me what country I was from. When I said Jamaican. He said he thought 'I was half Indian/Asian.' This is a part of my Afro- Jamaican mixed lineage. This is a representation of the beautiful island of Jamaica. I think many Jamaicans forget Jamaicans are a beautiful melting pot which aligns with the motto 'Out of Many One People.'

First time coming across this channel. I’m Jamaican living in Canada since the 1970’s. A Jamaican is a person who was born in Jamaica or has chosen (by immigration to make Jamaica their home). So just as how we are used to seeing people of diverse colours and ethnic backgrounds in Canada I expect to see the same in Jamaica where “Out of many one people “ is very well known. For people to look at you and question your authenticity as a Jamaican is done from a place of ignorance. Being Jamaican is not a race but it is being a part of a nation, a culture- no matter your race.

Naima Wright Greetings. Wow. Both my parents are Jamaican and of mixed heritage and many of my Jamaican cousin matches have some admixture. I think I have only seen one Jamaican cousin match who is 100 % African. I know my genetic genealogy is unique among Jamaicans. On my European side, I have Iberian cousin matches (both Portuguese and Spanish) many living in Latin America and a few living in Portugal and Spain) via an unknown paternal great grandmother who I surmise was Puerto Rican of Portuguese and Spanish descent. I also have Sicilian DNA via a maternal 2nd great grandfather. And of course I have English and Irish DNA and found many cousin matches in the world. On the African side, I have found distant cousin matches from Nigeria, Benin, and Mali. Have you found any African matches?

I have seen some black peoples' DNA results that were quite unexpected. Nevertheless in this context I consider even 90% to be mixed, as I tend to view race purely biologically, and not socially.

Richard McGrath well race is not biologically. But I somewhat agree with. All Jamaicans are mixed to some degree. Maybe the recent Chinese immigrants may not be. Jamaicans like myself are so proud that no matter what we Jamaicans look like including African, European Chinese and Indian, etc., or admixture they/we we claim we are Jamaicans even 100% Jamaicans but we are not all ignorant and do know being Jamaican is not a racial or ethnic group. Many Chinese Jamaicans don’t say they’re Chinese they’ll say they are Jamaicans, not Chinese Jamaicans. It’s a Jamaican ting. One of my Chinese friend said a Chinese person spoke to him in a Chinese language and he told them he doesn’t speak any Chinese language he’s Jamaican. That must have confused that person a bit. Jamaicans are proud to be Jamaicans even if they weren’t even born there and only live there for a period of time. I know many Chinese Jamaicans who speak patios quite proudly. I know many Indians as well who are proud to be Jamaicans. Just about any Jamaicans whether Chinese, Indian, European will identify as Jamaicans. 100% Jamaicans whether we are born there or our parents are from there or migrated and live there for a period of time. Mr. Watson, it is always good to have discussions with others for the meaningful exchange of ideas, even when their ideas are of the opposing view and provided they are expressed in mutually respectful ways. However, when those views are racist, discriminatory and contemptuous, do not waste your time on those "miserable few." They are hopeless. Lol do indians like black people or respect black people? I don't like people who don't like me. I have no reason to dislike indians outside of that.
Indians aren't moving into african and black spaces cause they f*king love black people. They move in for their own benefit. Create their insulated exclusive communities making money from locals, and try to be the economic power in those places. Are you telling me I'm supposed to celebrate that cause they might be kind enough to give some black people some crumbs and have us be dependent on them? If the economy of an african country collapsed cause some foreigners who don't respect them left, then that's probably not such a bad thing. It might teach them to learn to rely on themselves
You've already shown you own prejudice and condescension resorting to stereotype and alluding to old racist idea that black people do nothing or are lazy. So thanks for proving my point. I got my results back last week and I'm 44% South Asian, with some Eastern European which is all from my Indian mum! And my other half is predominantly scandivian, English and Irish. Its amazing to think I have white ancestry from my other. And we have distant relatives on the database in the baltics!!! Thank you for what you said about mixed race people like us though - it really resonated with me. Never quite fitted in anywhere but I'm starting to realise I don't have to fit in just one place, I can embrace and fit in to it all x

ok the eaeuropean in your mom is from ancient indo aryan people who came from central asia/eastern europe. Its called steppe dna. you can research about it if you want. Most northwest indians and pakistanis get more euro than your mom actually. Based on her results im guessing your mom is somewhere from standard northern india like UP, Bihar or Rajasthan. Punjabis, kashmiris get like 15-20% european/central asian.

Love the video, ethnicity is such a big topic in Jamaica, knowing Ur ancestry is a good thing, our Jamaican motto is "out of many one people" my motto is "out of many people is one" we are not the cause of our diverse mix, history played that part, we are the product of cross race breeding, we did not choose our ancestors, this was a plan devised long ago to destroy our bloodlines and water down our sovereign heritage, to destroy our identity, today people identify themselves with their land of birth, and having a birth certificate that states nationality, our true identity was stolen from us, so we identify with our more prominent features. If U are Jamaican U will understand, most jamaicans will call every Asian 'Mr./Miss chin, doesn't matter if they Mongolian, Tiawanesse, Japanese Chinese or whatever, jus like every Indian is called coolie, funny thing is the word coolie doesn't even have anything to do with Indians...lol.
In the grand scheme of all things, should it even matter what we look like? I myself is mixed with all types of races, such as African, German English Scottish, French and Indian, yet I look more indian than anything else, but I dont Identify with any particular race, Yes I'm 100% Jamaican because I was born there, but I identify as a human being, as a Man, I dont be long to any specific ethnicity, although people would try to place me where they see fit(mostly Indian)(even south American...lol). In the Next 50-100 years from now the world will be more populated with more mixed races people more than ever, it has already begun, our generation today has more mixed races than any other time in the world, and it is growing.
It is said U have to know yuh history to know where Ur going.
The world is heading towards a unifying of races, sovereigns, culture and Nationality.
Even the legendary Bob Marley knew what was happening and was for it, as explain in his timeless song "War" with these words "Until the color of a Man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes"
It's also funny to me to talk about being a real Jamaican, when the Tianos and Arawaks were the original inhabitants of Jamaica and still were not real Jamaicans, they migrated here in search for sustainable food, and were wiped out completely, none of Us are true Jamaican Natives, but are products of displacement.
Even our Jamaican culture is a mixture of other cultures, even our music.
Regardless of the facts I'm proud to be Jamaican, we as a nation/people thrive to stand out amongst other nations and countries and always try to bring something to the world.
Out Of many we are one people
    Stay woke!!!

Many indians from India were shipped to Jamaica for indentured servitude. When they worked their allotted time they went back home. However, many stayed and started families on the island. Jamaica is a melting pot, out of many one people. Asians came to the island as well.

    • @lebebeve4881

Coco Velez correction. Some as in a small amount went home. A large portion couldn’t go home because the British used them as slaves and denied many of them the right for them to go home. So instead of going home the British forced many of them to stay in Jamaica. It was only the lucky ones who were able to go home. BTW the indentured servitude is just a fancy term for slavery. Check the documentary how the British re-invented slavery with the Indians in Jamaica.

As a very mixed person myself, I appreciate your kind words regarding people not thinking you fit in. I am from the US and am probably the most common mix here, of African, European and Indigenous American ancestry, yet people always assume I'm from somewhere else. DNA tests estimate that I also have small amounts of Inuit and Polynesian, which makes sense given that there are researchers who've found whole tribal populations in South America with Polynesian DNA. It seems apparent that our ancestors moved between the continents well before Columbus ever set sail. Also, most Indigenous people from the US will not get their DNA tested due to the ongoing cultural genocide here, so the sample group is extremely small, resulting in some inaccurate estimates among the DNA testing companies. I would guess that for both of us, the Inuit and Polynesian are representative of Native North American ancestry. Many tribal people from the northeastern US were sent as slaves to the Caribbean, since it was almost impossible for the Bristish to enslave them in their homelands. At any rate, enjoyed your video! I have greater than 20 places on the Planet from which I have gleaned my genetic make-up including the Neanderthals, this gives me the opportunity to not be hateful because I may be hurting one of my own Family member. We cannot tear ourselves from the rest of the World, nor can we afford to gloat that we are more special because we are from a particular country. We all need each other working in Unity in order to make this World a better place because we have a Stake in doing so because our selves depend on it. I have almost the same rates than you for Nigeria , Kenya, Ashkenazi Jewish. I got also Iberia, Scandinavia, East-Europe, West Africa... But when I went to Gedmatch, I've got very low rates of South-Asia, East-Asia and West-Asia. I heard that Myheritage wasn't as efficient as My Ancestry.
